I think there is a name for that heuristic/bias in psychology but the name escapes me now.

There could be equal numbers but there is a skew in the availability and visibility.

Men are typically less keenly aware of the inherent desire for a familial bond and relationships.

Additionally, women are in the unfortunate circumstance that many single men have fallen victim/sucked in to the video game or other pastimes. Or similarly with dedicating time to their careers.

These factors combine to the unfortunate circumstance where men will make a passing comment to their buds that they don’t have anyone, and wouldn’t it be nice, and all that. But steps are not taken to actually meet your group of women.

So unfortunately, there could be equal numbers of men and women “on the market”, but there will be a disproportionately large number of women that show up to the dating scene.
