But the alt text wonāt be there unless itās in a NIP and no NIP even strongly suggests it. #[4]ā implemented something that gave alt text, and hashes (that are great for proactively doing take downs of content relays donāt want on their sever) and he did it in a way that complied with all the Nostr norms and got crucified for it.
Iām #TeamVitor on NIP-94 (but not on NIP-95).
LOL. Iām guessing youāve never been in a lawsuit.
There are literally websites that will crawl your site and report problems. Youāre not knowing about them is not a defense.
Do you think it would do stuff like āmuscular guy in a loinclothā? Iām wondering how far I can go with it.
After I resolve a few other things Iāll pay the $10 for a week and see what I can get out of it.
Thereās literally a cottage industry of handicapped people trying websites and then filing lawsuits under ADA. Over 3,200 lawsuits were filed last year.
I believe itās a matter of statutory damages, but not sure.
Thereās a blind guy whoās a regular one one of my sites. When he hits me up I stop everything and try to address his issues. You donāt want to fuck with the ADA!
Iām thinking of trying Midjourney out. Any suggestions for getting that style/feel to the image? How do you describe it? Is it cyberpunk?
ā¦and they will need #[4]āās approach to embedding images in notes. Without that thereās no alt text for images. Thatās essential for blind users. You can be sued if you donāt have itā¦
IMHO weāre in beta right now. We shouldnāt be worried about breaking backwards compatibility. The numbers of users we have now is nothing compared to a year or 10 from now. Get it right early!
While I came to agree with you on NIP-94 in part because it can really help with moderating CSAM and other problems. I completely disagree on NIP-95.
As others have pointed out web sockets arenāt the right vehicle for larger files. And youāre creating a nightmare for anyone trying to take down illegal content. I donāt want Nostr to replicate the legal problems of torrents.
You had mentioned serving things like emojis. Those are small and fit in the current limits of relays. Sure - have it support small files. But Iām totally against larger files.
You've hit the nail on the head.
I think everyone knows Nostr can be REALLY confusing to new users (e.g. @Natalie Mojoā works at a hosting company and just today she mentioned how the learning curve for Nostr is rather steep - and she works in technology all day!)
But it's also confusing even to developers like me who are coming from different backgrounds. Much of the discussion feels like it's in Greek or something and it takes me a while to get the gist of what's being said.
There's so much in the Nostr-verse that's possible, but people can't figure it out, so they give up when they try to do it. The folks writing the code aren't writing documentation, so it's really hard to use what they build.
Case and point - I'm in NY, so can't use ZBD. My host (Natalie's company) was setting up notstream for me and I didn't know how I was going to receive payments since I couldn't use ZBD. I saw that nostream could use LNBits but didn't know how to get it working. Finally, after combing through the nostream Telegram group I found a single reference that linked to a Nostr thread that explained it and I was able to figure it out - and it works!
I think if you find pain points and explain to people how to make things work you'll find success. I'd also suggest you find ways to insert yourself into the process so you can monetize your work.
Personally I'm not big on videos or audio. I like written instructions that I can follow step by step (preferably with pictures!)
Good luck!
I really need to redo my avatar. I hate the tan color! (But there are more urgent things that I need to get doneā¦)
You donāt look old enough to have been on the web back in the 90s.
In case anyone is interested, neither @Irisā nor @Snortā work on 10 year old iPad Airs. (Had one laying around so I tried). And it goes without saying Damus wonāt run on it either.
I wish some client would implement emoji reactions. Itās part of the spec. For my content guys will want to react with something like š or šā¦
Given that that article is a dozen years old - do you know if anyone has studied to see if it still holds water. A lot has happened on the topic of online credibility in the past decadeā¦
A global, top-down "reputation" is a horrible idea. Instead we need a bottom-up approach.
We need "Trust Lists" that work like follow lists and block lists only they're the people you trust to moderate your content for you. So let people in your community determine the reputations of people - don't leave it to some global censor.
Nostr is going to really challenge governments and lawyers.
Everyone has _something_ they don't want to see - ergo, reporting. (CSAM is on most people's list).
For starters there are the legal issues with some content - whether you agree with the laws or not - some of us just don't want the hassle of being dragged into court. I have a forum site which had a pretty active section discussing escorts in London. But when FOSTA/SESTA came out, even though they weren't talking about US-based escorts, because I and my server were US-based I had to close that section of the site. Didn't want to, but had to anyway. The users on my forum site are pretty protective about the site. When they see potentially illegal content they report it. Not because they agree with the law, but because reporting it protects something they care about (the site).
Then there are cultural norms. Even if a user is OK with content, their culture may dictate that certain types of content aren't OK in certain situations (e.g. when they're at work). So content moderation is needed then too.
One of the pending PRs suggests turning Kind 1984 reports into "labels" to make it less about narcing on someone. I like the change in focus that would bring. Then you make use of the labels you find most useful.
So there are many reasons for content moderation besides "prudes will be prudes"ā¦
You just broke NIP-94 - lol! The hashes won't match anymoreā¦
Get big pornstars who've been deplatformed onto Nostr. Their fans will followā¦
When a relay is spammed with Kind 1984 reports, how exactly can they "decide"? How do they separate the wheat from the chaff? There needs to be more structure. It needs to be easier to find the reports you want to act on.
