He posted a note saying "Look I can trend on Primal at will", then created a bot that reposted, liked, and zapped that note 200k times with different keypairs. Seems kinda spammy, don't you think?

All we did was put him on the "can't trend" list, which is publicly available in our repo. 🤷‍♂️

Filtering spam is a useful service. Many Nostr threads are already overrun by shitcoin airdrop scams for example. IMO, this problem gets worse as Nostr grows and simple mute lists are not enough because spammers can easily create new accounts for each new spam message. Primal's current capabilities in dealing with this are far from perfect. We may miss some spam, we may get false positives. Some users might disagree with us on the definition of spam. That's why we are building the tools to give more control and the final word to the user.

I am serious when I say that competent content filtering will be a key feature that Nostr clients will compete in. There will be clients that don't do any filtering whatsoever (or make filtering an opt in instead of opt out), and that will attract users who want that. We don't claim to have the final answer to any of this. We are simply working on providing the best service we can and doing so in a transparent manner (our entire stack is FOSS). We really hope that others will stand up services with different rules so that we can all learn from each other and adjust.

How would permanent deletion be against the idea of #nostr ? Isn’t nostr about not being censored and decentralized? So you’re already using different clients for different purposes, how about you have different profiles on each client? One is about work and one is for memes (to make this fun) but you accidentally post a meme in the client that’s signed into your work profile. Not a big problem right? You can just delete it before your boss sees like #twitter. You weren’t being a dick online you just made a human mistake. How to do explain to your boss that “look, I made a mistake that was supposed to be on my personal account but I can’t delete it because it goes against the whole idea of why I’m using nostr.”

I really hate binary thinking. We are capable of much more than holding one opposing view.

Maybe instead of asking ‘what brought you to #nostr?’ We should start asking, ‘what would make you stay, contribute more, encourage others to join #nostr?’ I will start this #welcome

What I've noticed is that people I introduce to nostr are missing interesting content, interesting people to follow, doubt data protection because everyone can read all the notes, are even deterred by the zapping feature, because they do not believe in bitcoin, don't like that clients are not that stable and consistent.
