Well I got most of the mowing done today, then it started raining. Then the weather radio starts beeping and says we're under a tornado warning. I dont like this kind of weather, and my poor dogs are all nervous. #grownostr #weather

What’s the variety?

Cooking these hostas up with dinner tonight. Haven’t tried it before but since I’m pulling them out and replacing with comfrey it’s a good time to try #grownostr #hosta #cooking

Today I'm walking around my property and labeling interesting plants that I identify with the Seek app.

So far I've found:

58 species of plants

5 species of insects

3 reptiles

2 arachnids

And 1 fungus

I need to come up with a more permanent labeling system, but for now masking tape and a sharpie will do.

Going to continue work on my business plan tonight to start a small pastured poultry business with broader hopes of becoming a robust regenerative farm enterprise.

Planning to start out with 2 Suscovich-style chicken tractors. I have rough numbers together for costs and market pricing but need to start planning execution on finding customers, other marketing, branding etc.

At this time of day, it's usually foggy here on Hyatt Lane in Cades Cove, which is part of what makes this place so magical. And there are usually at least some clouds. Not today! But it's still beautiful.

Regarding the ongoing saga of trying to get my chipper blades sharpened locally. I took them to a local lawn mower shop today. The guy said he had never sharpened them, but offered to try. He quit about halfway through and charged me $6.

I pondered the wisdom of putting them on and running it for a while, but decided to try again. This time I took them to the one shop everybody keeps talking about. I called to make sure they would sharpen them, and they said they did. And I walked in and they said they couldn't. We talked for a while about how they worked and finally settled on the way they thought they could sharpen them. They said they would have them ready in about a week or so. They didn't say how much.

Something about the whole experience just felt disgusting to me. I get that their focus is woodworking tools, and I'm sure they do a fine job with those, but I mean... really.

I think I'm going to look for someone locally that makes knives or else buy myself a belt sander or grinder that's at least 8". A 2" belt sander would leave a really nice edge on them, IMO. I'm less excited about a hollow grind, but if that's what I had I, it could work just fine.
