This is still against their app policy, the fact that its emojis vs proper UI is irrelevant. They are not disallowing zaps by mistake, I’m sure Cook is aware of the threat BTC poses to their monopoly tax. iOS is an antithetical platform to nostr, we must embrace open W3C standards.

Sadly yes. I wish there was a way to stop sharing our data. Like opting out plus as soon as we log out out our data is deleted from the server.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think AI is pure hype. At least not in followup versions, not speaking about the current thing.

If we are talking about the current chatGPT then I think it’s a bit overhyped. It’s useful, but seems to be getting nerfed now. If this continues it will be mostly a useless toy. 

I hope we are not dumb enough to cap the potential too quickly. The real benefits may come in v5 or v6.

In terms of startup valuations I definitely think there’s too much hype and too much money being thrown around too early. But I am not expert at these things. The real benefits may be down the road.

Throughout history we see the same pattern of arrogant dismissal of new technology.

In the early days of email it was mostly just for fun and used between universities that integrated the servers. The inventor of email did it for shits and giggles and then it took off.

The internet was dismissed as a toy. Paul Krugman famously declared it no bigger impact than a fax machine. People were calling the death of the internet just as it was growing.

The same is true of Bitcoin. Complete dismissal, even to this day. Except it’s still growing and still not going anywhere. Eventually it will be ubiquitous just as the internet is today and people will wonder what it was like to live without bitcoin.

The same with nostr. Dismissed by most, even the so called bitcoiners. Except it’s the most powerful network effects protocol we have so far and it’s not likely to go anywhere. It may take waves of slow growth but overtime it’ll snowball and will be undeniable.

AI… same thing. Dismissed. Joke, toy. Later as it blossoms, it will be used for everything, medicine, education, manufacturing. Nothing will be untouched by AI.

AR… same thing.

So when I see the same boring takes about how it’s hype and nothing.. I just think about about the things that came before and chuckle.

Take a broader view and imagine what could be.

What if instead of only allow people to use a private key for login / registration, we had a Sign Up / sign in with Google and upon doing that, a key pair is generated for you and emailed to address. You would still have a nostr npub / nsec, but it would automatically back up for you. The user recognizes the social login, and it’s easier to populate information from that option. It would be like a hybrid mode where you keep the old sign up process but on the front end it’s all nostr. Perhaps then you could use that connection to integrate with other traditional services, perhaps with a database attached. So it would be like nostr, but with a benefit of a light database for some efficiency and integrations with minimal info collected.

Dumb idea? Defeats the entire purpose? Thoughts?
