Growing up the messaging that my peers are I received was that we could do anything. The lie being that it's possible to do everything. Have a career, be a mum. And have a fulfilling relationship. I know I was made to feel that being 'just a mum' was to have failed. That I SHOULD be doing so much more. Anyway, women can do whatever they want but need to know that there are tradeoffs and doing it 'all' is a myth.

They have not paid for themselves this year. Ive have however learned a lot of lessons in keeping bees this year. We've had drought so I've been feeding them, the queen started to fail so I requeened the hive and in their weak state they got some pests that I've had to manage. All of that took time and money and the truely heartbreaking thing is that they might not be strong enough to survive the winter. In the past I've had a hive I was pulling 40kg of honey off with plenty left over. I do know productive bee keepers who are able to cover the cost of the hive maintenance and even make a profit.

I agree with the exception that the centre of Australia isn't culturally unfriendly it's just completely empty of people. Aus is as big a land form as the continental US but vastly empty desert in the whole middle bit.

I finally got my first seeds in the ground for winter. Probably a it late but that's ok.

I'm going to be using a new method of managing weeds where I just plant more of what I want to fill in all the gaps so weeds can't grow!
