Lookin' good! We planted peppers and eggplants but haven't figured out our whole garden layout for this year, so we don't know how many of what we need yet.
There are so many planning complexities for new gardeners:
- Crop rotation
- Sunlight needs (including what plants will end up shading other plants)
- Water needs
- Trellises
- Whether it need pollinators or needs to be covered
And we're also building a row cover to keep out the cabbage moths this year. We'll get there, but π΅βπ«
I have a radical idea for society: live and let live.
Let people who want to wear masks do so in peace. Doesn't matter if it's for disease protection, defeating facial recognition, or fashion.
If people want to only eat certains kinds of fats, or avoid coconut oil or canola oil, say "cool, you do you". Same with being a carnivore, vegetarianor vegan.
Maybe simply accept that it's okay that people make different choices than you. Disagreeing doesn't mean either of you are wrong. You don't need to get angry and/or all fired up over it.
I dunno. Just a thought, especially for social media.
Find some cool software that you want to use which just happens to be written in Go, then pick a simple looking ticket from the issue tracker and try to compete it.
If you like open source hardware, might I suggest buying or building a RuuviTag and digging into https://github.com/Scrin/RuuviBridge (e.g. issue #10).
Just jumping right in is very fast, you can see examples and start by making small changes. The changes that give you compiler or runtime errors are the things you need to look up, the rest is probably close enough to C, PHP, or whatever you're used to that you don't need to spend time reading about it.

#Chicagoans def gonna like this addition π
Y'all have the museum of money. They might want some decorations in that neighborhood.
And IIRC, there's also some museum of science and technology or something too. Just sayin'
I am really surprised that nobody has published an #ansible role to set up a #kiwix server, but there doesn't appear to be anything on ansible #galaxy. Weird.
It seems like it'd be cool to have a local copy of #Wikipedia, among other things.

Today's menu:
- 100% whole wheat bread, homemade
- Homegrown rosemary
- Homemade garlic infused olive oil (the infusing part, not the oil part)
In the future, we will also be using home grown garlic for the infusion.
Not going to grow and press our own olives into oil though. That's where we are drawing the line (at least, for now π )

If you think those are the only choices, you are truely ignorant.
Take a look at NitroKey, Terzor Model T, and the other open source hardware implementations and then get behind cryptographically secure authentication like the entire security community has been for years.
"#Signal is expensive" was very informative.
https://signal.org/blog/signal-is-expensive/
40 % of the infrastructure expenditure is burnt to send #SMS codes.
I was forced to receive an SMS from Signal more than once after the first time. The SMS arrived from a sender I had never heard about. Signal's subprocessors are not listed on https://signal.org/legal/#privacy-policy (which doesn't even acknowledge the existence of #GDPR).

They could drop phone numbers and only have usernames, but they refuse. They'd rather give all that money to the phone company than let people use their service without requiring a phone number.
Kinda makes you think, huh?
For anyone who wants scripts to set up a full bitcoin node and a lightning node, here they are:
https://github.com/fooock/bitcoind-ansible https://github.com/fooock/lnd-ansible
I plan on submitting some merge requests to enable some extra options, but I can attest thay they work as-is.
π€
Yes, but not they're not automatic (for better or worse).
For me, installing from scratch is just running a single command (ansible-playbook). Nice and repeatable. π So to get a full node and lightning node, it's just two commands.
Of course setting up or restoring a wallet, opening channels, and all that is not part of the automation.
Personally, I like the ability to choose specific software and mix 'n' match, but I can certainly see why people would want these node-in-a-box type solutions.
Backup failed. Ran out of disk space. Made disk bigger and trying again now.
Next, copy to external media, integrity check, then repeat.
I'm hella serious about backups with this process now. The hardest part is not using the computer during this whole process so my backups are not out of date.
I really should publish my scripts that automatically set up a Nextcloud server...
Heck yeah, FIDO2 devices are great for systems that support it. As you already said in a reply, make sure to set a device PIN.
The pin for a Yubikey has to be entered on a computer instead of on the device itself, but those devices are much more expensive since they have a touchscreen.

Yup. Lard, olive oil, coconut oil... all make great lubricants for working with machinary.
Meanwhile, citrus fruits, vinegar, and baking soda all make great industrial cleaning products.
Food has many great uses, indeed!
Depends on what you're into and how rural you're talking.
A group of us moved from big cities (LA, DC, and San Fran) to a small town in the midwest (population 120K). Some of the group left because there wasn't enough to do (e.g. nowhere to go dancing) and it was harder to make friends in a smaller town. Just fewer people that share your interests and so it's harder to find people that are ones you really click with.
In more rural areas, it can be harder to find parts, tools and materials and they're sometimes more expensive. Ordering things from the internet can help with that, but shipping large objects is expensive and takes a few days.
Frequently no high speed internet available.
Some rural areas aren't keen on outsiders and while they'll frequently be polite if you look like them, they're not always friendly and neighborly. I know people who personally experienced this.
Some of these things might not be a big deal for you, or might be able to be easily overcome.
