Trail running + native plants

Idk, I had a bridal lunch and we were already living together. It was more just about a pre-celebration with my female relatives. I didn't have a registry for it, and only a couple people brought gifts, which was perfectly fine. I think it matters how she frames it -- it could be very nice or it could be a gift grab. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

I know, right? Super unique. The concept of the teams converging as the relay goes on and finishing together is amazing for community building. And a nice metaphor, I think.

Spent a life-affirming weekend leading a relay team in covering 200 miles on foot in a unique event where the goal is for every team to finish at the same prescribed time on day 2, starting whenever you need to after midnight on day 1. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ Very little sleep, but an overflowing wealth of teamwork, friendship, scenery, physical and mental challenge, and just pure joy. So grateful. ๐Ÿ˜Š And exhausted. ๐Ÿ˜ด #grownostr #runstr

I just made a camping reservation for a weekend with my sister and my adorable 1-year-old niece. This will be her first tent (or any) camping trip. Wish us luck! Sister wants this to become an annual tradition. I am touched and so looking forward to it!!

You inspired me to try making some for the first time! Will report how it turns out! โ˜•

So I think this is a strong contender for worst bird photo ever, but I had to provide an attempt at #proofofbaldeagles from our local hike today! (It's the two blobs on the upper right of the tower.) Never seen them so close to home. We are lucky to have several state park areas and a medium-sized river not too far away, but this was in a relatively small parcel of forest in the middle of the burbs. So cool. Maybe they have a nest nearby!

Clasping Venus's Looking Glass (or Clasping Bellwort or a few other names) spotted in a powerline right-of-way through a nearby woods. Native and so cute! (And the right color for #nostriches.) Also apparently used by the Cherokee for indigestion according to the internet, but I'm not sure exactly what part/how to admimister.

Clematis in bloom at the in-laws! ๐Ÿ˜Š #grownostr

From Friday afternoon at the terminus of our daily walk. A human family was trying to feed the duck family (on the right) but of course the geese swarmed in and about bowled the poor ducklings over. ๐Ÿ˜

Did you know that ducklings initially all have female plumage, and some of the first signs to tell the sexes apart are that males start to get yellow beaks and curled up feathers at the tail, whereas female beaks stay orange/black and they have no curling feathers? We can start to spot the yellow beaks coming in around now.

A few more pics from yesterday's trail run. Today it was a much-needed "yoga for gardeners" after all of yesterday's weeding. Later we're headed to my in-laws for a family picnic. I'm bringing a corn/black bean/avocado/salsa dip. #grownostr #grateful

No way! We had s'mores tonight, too! (Second time this year, though)

Woohoo! Weeding and planting a few extra mater and pepper starts from my sister? Check! I always forget to do a "before" pic, but here's the "after"! (You can see the weed piles strewn around...) #grownostr #gardening

Idk about "favorite," since I haven't used many, but plantfinder seems to work really well. Just annoying you have to click past the "sign up for premium!" page every time you use it.

It's easy to end up with fabric that blocks too much water. We've done both and opted for weeding overall. But our garden isn't huge (maybe 10x20').
