Have you seeded them with anything? It's good to get a fast growing cover crop to hold the soil together. Geoff Lawton plants everything in the swale mound right away: quick cover crop, shrubs and trees. And plenty of mulch.
The youtube algorithm thought I needed to learn more about dandelions and showed me this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyePMeGE3CI
Everyone says the name dan-de-lion (tooth of the lion) is from the tooth-shaped leaves, but I think the tap root is the real tooth. It's bright white on the inside, it sinks deep into the earth and it won't let go.
The seeds also provide forage for birds. I often see clever birds pin the stems down to the ground with their feet and peck away at the seeds.
That soil looks like a real challenge, great work!

The fourth compost pile of the season (3rd on this graph, greenish line) achieved the time and temperature requirements to be considered proper thermophilic compost. Now it will cool down to ambient temperature before it is considered "finished". Then ideally it should sit for at least 6 months to mature, where the protozoa and nematodes start to reproduce and balance out the bacteria. Fungal spores will also germinate and start colonizing the remaining pieces of woody material that have been well prepared for them by the moisture and heat of the composting process.
Unfortunately this will be the last post about my compost pile progress for a while. I fractured my hip a few days ago and will have to keep weight off the leg for at least 6 weeks.

Cool project, I'll have to make one now.
Looking to buy a Bitcoin and/or nostr themed fanny pack. Can anyone recommend a vendor that accepts lightning payments?
Post good content and use hashtags for more reach and you'll get them.
The capacity is there if someone is smart enough to figure out how to line up the incentives. Coordination could be handled through a mining pool run by the utility, opt-in and customers have to register first. Installing the mining client from your utility could handle all of that.
The utility would know approximately how much energy a customer used for mining based on submitted shares. They would also know the address that payouts were sent to. Is that doxxing? Is it doxxing if it's a voluntary opt-in mining pool?
I'm not sure what you mean about rolling blackouts. The pool could stop handing out new jobs to some of the miners to reduce demand as needed. There wouldn't be a killswitch on the meter.
I was thinking more about individuals mining. Profit is not as important to them as converting fiat to something better, and the privacy is an added value.
I was just thinking last night that the amount of devices that are capable of mining Monero (every desktop, laptop and server) could provide a huge amount of demand response for the grid.
Impossible to grow in soil? LOL Challenge accepted.
How did you determine it's more fungal? From what I've seen it's more common to have too much bacteria. But yeah, matching the fungi:bacteria ratio to the ecological succession stage of the plants you want to grow is really important.
I've been through her foundation course. The results they got with the soil food web approach in the case studies were amazing. Everyone in the business of growing food needs to know about it.
The recipe is the same on these last two piles. The proportions should stay the same but might vary a little depending on the specific ingredients as they change through the season.
I'm not sure how much ambient temperature is contributing. I'm trying to do hot composting the hard way without a source of high nitrogen like manure, so it's a lot more sensitive to conditions like moisture and air. 10% manure would have these piles heating up easily after each turn. I'm using a handful of cottonseed meal and cheap cat food in between layers for a little extra nitrogen boost.

Pile 3 barely got hot enough, but not long enough, but I turned it anyways.
Pile 4 did very well and has already been turned. It will be ready to turn again this evening.
Here's the before and after of turning pile 4:

Asking ChatGPT to create radio advertisements for bizarre monster truck shows is the only thing getting me through this afternoon of fiat mining.
Masks are a great way to identify and avoid people who fail at critical thinking. They're doing us a favor and don't even realize it.
Wallet of Satoshi if it's an attended stand. If unattended, print the Bitcoin address as a QR code. Reusing addresses isn't best practice, but in some low tech situations it's fine.
I think avoiding bright sun and strong wind is more important than time of day.
