GM, GN, and GFY.

There's a lot of talk in the cyber security space about doing away with passwords in favor of biometrics.

These people can't even secure password databases, and they want my fucking fingerprints and other biometric data?

No, but thanks for the offer. I can change a password or email (use something like SimpleLogin) when they inevitably lose it, but my fingerprints and eyes are pretty hard to switch out.

Say no to biometrics. We can use password managers (Bitwarden only for me), 2FA and hardware devices. They're going to fail to secure whatever we give them anyway, so we might as well not give them elements of ourselves that we can't change when they inevitably do something stupid.

There's also the privacy invasion and potential for more government control in general if we accept this.

Good morning, leave Microsoft and Apple behind.

Switch to GNU/Linux for laptop/desktop (love Fedora one release behind!).

Switch to CalyxOS or GrapheneOS on mobile.

Bitcoin isn't the only freedom tech.

Bitcoin is the money. That shit flowing in is credit, theft, and blood.

Thinking back to the Covid stimis and how my coworkers told me I was wrong when I explained, mathematically, how much they'd suffer for those checks in the coming years.

They were right. My math was wrong. It ended up being worse than I calculated. lol So glad I bought Bitcoin with it.

*for us autistic Bitcoiners lol

Mr. Mean makes some good points, but it clearly isn't done yet. It's good enough if you only want a handful of Bitcoiners using it, but it certainly is not good enough to replace the Big Bois for most people.

It's clearly still under heavy development. Honestly, it has issues typing and editing in English for me. It's still beta in my opinion, but it's coming along.

Support told me they plan to add it, but have no ETA. Mildly disappointing, but paying for 6 months instead of one month dispersed the cost enough that I was okay with it in the meantime.

My issue is with using their software ecosystem more than the hardware, but they intentionally wire the two together pretty tightly, making it a lot more difficult to use freedom software than alternatives. Ethical hardware is being built but it's still less common/available than open software. I don't think perfect is yet possible, but Apple is as bad as it gets on this issue.

I think there is a difference between a Bitcoiner and someone who owns Bitcoin. I can totally understand why fiat chasing Bitcoin owners wouldn't give a fuck about Apple shitting on Bitcoin and people fighting for freedom.

What I don't understand (and I'm not saying either of you two fit this description) are the Bitcoiners (the distinction being that they hold Bitcoin as freedom tech - I have no issue with wanting to also get wealthier by being early) give money to a company that has proven that it doesn't support them or their value of freedom (which they believe Bitcoin will help achieve).

If you fit my description of a Bitcoiner and buy Apple products then you're just a larper. There are alternatives that better support freedom and some people are choosing to contradict values they claim to have.

That's my main point here. I see it a lot and find it odd that people proclaim how much they love freedom and FOSS Bitcoin while using the exact opposite in all their other tech, especially when better (even if not perfect) alternatives exist.

I love freedom more than hardware. Maybe that's why I can't understand it.

They screwed over Chinese protestors, they bowed to China by removing Nostr apps from their centralized store, all of their products are closed. They give the finger to Bitcoiners and freedom fighters almost every chance they get.

It's quite a puzzle for me. But yeah, enjoy that hardware I guess.

I wonder if it'll allow me to see why any Bitcoiners still support that company.

Most people don't understand or care about Bitcoin because most people have little to no value to preserve.

I think the best case is that a few of us will understand Bitcoin and act accordingly, while the vast majority will use and work for Bitcoin, whether directly or indirectly. This is really how life has always worked. Average people are average because they aren't exceptional. We can't change that, and statistically, they won't either.

Most people won't self-custody. Most people won't be sovereign or even seek to be. The whole point, in my view, is to build systems that give people a choice. Until recently, there were no choices for most people.

There was never much chance that the average person would choose sovereignty (they rarely do), but I think most people can sense when they have the option and when they don't. I believe society can only function if choice exists and just enough people choose to be free and protect freedom. It doesn't take as many as I used to believe.

There is hope. The future is bright. Bitcoin will win, even if the average person doesn't choose to maximize their own freedom.
