I joke in this meme. But it brings me to a bigger point. I know others are like me…

When I try and do walk throughs with my wife of cold storage, seed phrase, signing devices and etc it’s mental gymnastics that she needs to be interested in to attain. She doesn’t seem interested.

Maybe that’s an ode to her confidence in our marriage but if something were to happen to me it’s a complicated matter.

Tips?

Ah, the infamous struggle of trying to get a significant other on board with the ins and outs of cold storage, seed phrases, and signing devices—it's like navigating a labyrinth of crypto complexity! While your wife's lack of interest might seem like confidence in your marriage (or perhaps just an aversion to technical jargon), you're right that it's important to have a plan in place for the unexpected.

Here are some tips to simplify the process and ensure both you and your wife are prepared:

1. **Start Slow**: Break down complex concepts into digestible bits. Begin with the basics before diving into advanced topics.

2. **Hands-On Practice**: Show rather than tell. Demonstrate how things work in real-time so she can grasp practical knowledge.

3. **Create Documentation**: Prepare clear instructions or guides that outline what needs to be done in case of emergency or unforeseen events.

4. **Seek Professional Help**: Consider consulting a financial advisor or expert who can provide guidance on securing assets and preparing for contingencies.

Remember, communication is key! Discussing these matters openly and finding common ground will not only ease concerns but also strengthen your shared understanding and readiness for any situation that may arise. And who knows, maybe one day she'll surprise you by zapping Bitcoin across Lightning Network like a pro!

Stay safe, stay secure, and keep those crypto conversations flowing! 💻🔒💡

💯 agree but I have no solution to offer. Maybe multisig with built in inheritance planning? 🤷‍♂️ I think Unchained and Casa both offer something.

👆multisig with inheritance planning

I have had the same experience 😵‍💫

I wait for the questions and I try to answer simply. HODL for hope 😂⚡️

Same. Maybe if we can get one of those Bravo reality shows to explain it, there will be progress 😂

This 🤌🏻

Hand her a piece of paper & tell her .5 BTC is on there and if she loses it or someone finds it that's 50k gone.

Obvz don't actually have .5BTC on there 🤣😁

Piece of paper w a seed on it*

Not a bad idea … may test soon

My wife has a very very high level of understanding. I have a printed document for her, as well as one family member that can help her through it. Biggest point is she never has no rush anything and never give your seed phrases to anyone.

I review with her every 6-12 months, to try and keep it somewhat fresh.

- The bitcoin is not "on the devices", it is recorded on the network's ledger.

- If device is lost/destroyed, bitcoin can be accessed using the Seed Phrase.

- If your Seed Phrases & devices are not compromised, there is likely no reason to move the bitcoin.

- Seed Phrases are located at XXXXXXXXXXXX

- Kids should not receive XXXXXXXXXX when they are XXXXX years old

- There is no need to panic. Do not rush anything. The bitcoin is not going anywhere unless you move it

- Never Ever For Any Reason tell anyone your seed phrase / private key

Leave the written instruction in case anything happens. If she ever needs to, she’ll jump through the hoops.

Or ladies.

Use a bitkey for cold storage? Don't worry, you're not the only one with the same problem.

I like the, "Act like I am in a coma and you need to access our Bitcoin. You aren't allowed to ask me any questions," drill.

Do it once a year or so and update your setup as needed.

Just take it to the grave

You can lead a wife to bitcoin

You can’t make her cold storage

women only extract resources.

Little bits at a time. Like 5 minute lessons, there is a lot to take in and it's overwhelming. I find myself asking more questions, understanding more, and retaining more of it when it comes at me in small chunks. Be patient, it's all still magic to most of us 😂.

Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor!

Multisig with inheritance planning - Bitkey?

Don’t die.

Use Liana wallet for timelock enabled wallets so you can have a singlesig spending path with a trusted friend or family member that only comes active after a set time period so they can’t access funds unless it’s a worst case scenario. If you want a KYC option Anchorwatch is great.

It's a big thing to depend on yourself and have a game plan for passing it on to your loved ones. It's easy to put this trust in other parties, but you then have counter-party risk. I enjoy the mental exercise of figuring out how to best handle all these scenarios.

I've left flash drives with relevant videos on how to use specific devices.

Also I test my wife a few times a year and have her send from our single sig to our multi-sig vault.

There's not a great answer here. I agree with you, my wife was more interested after visiting El Salvador and using Bitcoin as a whole.

Lock up a how-to guide in your safe 🤷‍♀️

Great question, and I don’t think anyone has provided this proactive approach yet, so let me take a stab at it. First, understanding that sometimes “coaching” your significant other on something she isn’t an expert at or isn’t passionate about is difficult. For example, when racing MTB professionally I did not personally teach my wife how to ride. She wanted to improve her skills, so we found a women’s camp for her to attend with a coach she would learn from without taking criticism personally. Additionally, the financial investment motivated her to really take it seriously and overall it was a very empowering, positive experience. I can absolutely relate as anytime I attempt to seriously communicate about this topic with my rebel wife it can only be on her time, and I’ve learned that collectively scheduling a time is half the battle. The other isn’t exactly the how, it rather who is “coaching” her through this information. I’d recommend a service like nostr:npub1lrj3lsskez59qu68v5fpnur7ythe7s5e4qcelclha6t6r9q5pqgsl2mzx2 to assist in inheritance planning. Similarly to creating a family will/trust, having an expert to guide you both through the process is well worth the up front investment. In my experience their team is exceptional when it comes to respecting your privacy and will not compromise sensitive information. Perhaps, your system could improve, simplify and ultimately this could lead to more peace of mind knowing that if you were to get hit by a bus your family would be taken care of. PS, watch out for buses!
