apparently hivetalk, cornychat and relaytools were all kicked off the nostrapps.com , for whatever reason we're not doing "legit" work anymore
Discussion
None of these apps qualify as Nostr "clients" to me. I am using this term with a (more or less) strict meaning, not to say they are bad or somehow not "legit". Not all things have to be Nostr clients, in fact most apps in the world should definitely not be Nostr clients. And at the same time most apps in the world would benefit from Nostr logins or some other form of light Nostr integration, which seems to be the case of all these apps that were "kicked" (well, relaytools is different, it is a relay provider service, so not really a customer-facing "app" in any sense).
I have used Hivetalk many times and I think it is very good and I'm glad it exists. Same for Relaytools. I'm also glad that Wavlake has whatever the Nostr integration they have (I've not used it myself).
nostrapps.com is not a list of "good apps", it's a list of "good Nostr clients", the criteria for that is not super well-defined, but basically the app has to strive for interoperability with other apps, it has to have a reasonable spec -- preferably a NIP -- that allows others to build independent apps that will interface (view, create, interact) with those core elements, using Nostr relays and events for coordination.
i think all of these apps do that, we are all using and collabing on making nips and interop
wtf are you talking about?
what do you think about my meme
nostr:note1j37w0tlw25rp2ut2ry9fx7h8mqtl5fd7qkjdeh03e899eydytpcshwjg9m
Sorry but your meme is not a Nostr client.
He got you there, Sleepy π
idk bout alldat he changes his mind on the daily about whatβs a βNostr appβ you never know tomorrow he might change his mind n it could be the best Nostr app on that list
He can run his site how he likes. But I think @hivetalk and nostr:npub1yfg0d955c2jrj2080ew7pa4xrtj7x7s7umt28wh0zurwmxgpyj9shwv6vg deserve to be on the list.
The criteria is too tight. Throw more on the list not less. π€·ββοΈ
not his site, it became what it became bc it WAS NOT his site, I promise you this, if it wouldβve been his site from the start it would be nowhere right now.
heβs great at many things but creating a site n maintaining it isnβt one of them lol
The main problem with that site was the lack of transparency. We didnβt know who ran it and who to contact so we just started posting notes that nostr:npub1yfg0d955c2jrj2080ew7pa4xrtj7x7s7umt28wh0zurwmxgpyj9shwv6vg should be on it and that Wavman needed to be taken down.
Iβm sure he got enjoyment from our trolling π§ but Iβm sure many did π€·ββοΈ
Is it true you don't even gm?
Nostr.band is not a Nostr client
Npub.pro is also not really a Nostr client (CMS that pulls from Nostr)
Nos2x is a Nostr signing extension not a client
Amber is a remote signer not a client
Zapplepay is an external service
Nostrame is not either
Seems we have somewhat a wonky line at best.
β π―
client is a kind of app
app is anything
If nostr.band isn't a nostr client then primal isn't too. Npub.pro is 100% nostr client - it talks to outbox relays of site authors and has 0 dependency on a particular server/relay.
my dear fren... y u no add Anonostr.com π
You left Yondar in the list ffs... it has zero users and even less development
People should make their own Nostr apps list. Let there be dozens. And then a Nostr apps list aggregator that is a list of Nostr app lists, that, since it uses the list kind, gets listed on the lists. List-ception is how we win.
I use 3 Nostr apps regularly. Amethyst, Corny Chat, and Hivetalk. But only one of those is a Nostr app? I don't see the logic there at all.
Amethyst is not a real app because it censors users with social credit score
client is just one of many kinds of apps
a server is an app
a system service is an app
the GUI is an app
the computer is an app
it means something that does something
change it to "nostrclients.com" then
I would look at it the same way like a browser, an email application or ssh are also not "TCP clients", while strictly speaking they do use that protocol under the hood.
Or a real-world analogy: we do not define cars, bikes or motors like "road vehicles" even though they mostly use a road.
Hivetalk, Wavlake should be on the list imo. They may not have a full Nostr integration, but they serve a very good use-use where Nostr is offering a solution. And most people would not care but Iβm sure they will use it just because the apps works and the developers behind have the right intentions.
Right now, I'm trying to figure out what nips i need to make a "full" integration, and its getting a bit tricky here when the nips are constantly changing, and I'm not 100% full time into the protocol discussion cuz this isn't my full time job.
its difficult to build when the sand is constantly shifting under.
I'm okay with waiting until the dust settles and the definitions are clear, which they aren't right now. Some apps do "full" integration but they are also building the spec, which gives them the advantage to declare what is correct vs is not correct. If we're not defining the spec then its like, how do you even know what is or what isn't.
Either way I am not going to cry about it anymore. But this is something to think about as you go to FOSDEM how things are
As long as people keep the zaps coming and we cover the costs, I'll keep it going. If everyone wants to use it, GREAT!! If you don't, and I better put time elsewhere. Not going to get grants or vc, sorry. this is not how I fly for a pet project. I prefer running self-sovereign small businesses, and won't bow to an overlord.
nostr was only supposed to be side thing which has blown up to be much bigger than intended, for better or worse π I was supposed to be spending more time on BTC/LN.... now this LOL
Fuck you fiatjaf !! π
Actually, all apps that allow for intercommunication should use public/private keypair signing, so yes, basically all apps will be nostr apps.
I'm sorry. Your little project is bigger than you now. Maybe time to take a more hands off approach.
Unless you prefer to be like Vitalik instead of Satoshi.
nostr:npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 you've created something amazing. Thank you, from myself and everyone else here.
I think you and the community should think about governance. I don't have the answers, I don't know how to do it correctly, but I know that people smarter than me could have ideas. As more people come into this space, without governance, there's going to be trouble. Consider other FOSS projects, other decentralized projects, and how they do it.
Just a thought. π€
Seriously, wtf is nostrapps.com? We host 80% of nostrβs media, have an integrated βshare direct to nostrβ feature, nip5,nip7,nip96,nip98, user profiles, have the fucking nostr name in our domain, and are not on any of these lists, donβt get any podcasts nobody has even heard of us π€£
Fuck all those lists, special groups, and peopleβs opinions, just keep building.
Cornychat is legendary, Iβve heard of hivetalk and looking into it tomorrow.
Please let us know how we can help with any of your projects!! π€
fwiw
i have a subscription with yall
which makes this a MUCH more pleasant experience
and I've never heard of nostrapps
or wtf it is
ahhh the group trying to centralize nostr
i hope you fail miserably
Lol yes, that is our mission!
In all seriousness, our #1 goal is to help grow the nostr ecosystem making it fun and easy. We always encourage people to host their own media, especially if it is confidential or personal.
We are open source and have presented a few times on how to build your own media uploader.
We strongly support and encourage others to use all other nostr media hosts including:
Primal, nostrmedia.com, satellite.earth/cdn, void.cat etc!
I hope we donβt fail, I do hope other grow!
Based. π₯πΈ
I've been most loyal to nostr.build than any other client or service. You are a huge part of the backbone of this place. IDGAF what anyone says.
I would love to hear you and nostr:npub137c5pd8gmhhe0njtsgwjgunc5xjr2vmzvglkgqs5sjeh972gqqxqjak37w on a podcast
Make it happen nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn
I am building a Nostr app website where devs can list their own apps, V1 is out now. Keep in mind I am no professional so there will be bugs but it's NostrStore.com if anyone is interested. You must be on Desktop to add new ones and sign them though. You can receive zaps directly for your apps too.
if nostr.build pulled the plug on nostr and disappeared, the entire network would just die
no, you're notba "client"
you devs all have a god complex
