I respect that influencers rely on engagement to pay their rent and would rather comply with twitter identity verification rather than abandon the platform for nostr.

That is the problem. The blue checks are captured.

Corruption is rampant, Bitcoin/Nostr (decentral/freedom tech) fixes this.

influencers should have more conviction in the value they produce or the value they perceive to produce.

& a fish should learn to hunt elk 🤣

Cross posting fixes this

It is kind of scary how much control centralized platforms have over "independent" journalists on their platforms.

Something I never thought about before the blue check.

Audience first, then influencers, then companies and sponsors

Influencers being influenced.

Tbf i dont think you respect it, but I suspect you empathize with their situation.

I will say however, if as an influencer you're big enough to be able to rely on it for expenses and cost of living, aren't you also big enough to take a cut and move to Nostr?

If you're not big enough to migrate to Nostr and keep a sufficient amount of the following, are you then too big to not just start over?

Once your in the trap, it's hard to get out.

Say you have 100k followers on a centralized social, even if you make a post your moving to nostr, only about 100 of your followers will move over or give nostr a try.

people (the audience) tend to really prefer a certain platform and it’s very hard to get them to change/use something new even if their favorite creator moves

Yep. It's a whole new learning curve for your following to undergo moving to a new social.

It takes alot of time and teaching, while youre also trying to create content, to move your audience over.

But honestly, I wouldn't know. I've never gotten over 150 follows till I came here. 😅🤣

Why is that a problem?

Nostr is a good alternative, I wish cost could be distributed to user by requiring hosting instead of relaying on big/paid relays

This is what works. Bitcoin is the same, SimpleX is the same. Nothing prevents you from running a relay, but the two functions should be logically separated ... and there should be client-only apps for use on smaller/older hardware or hardware that may not be always on

Bitcoin connects to ~random nodes and get all data required, today you have to connect to specific relays to get the full picture

Not the same

Oh? Client wallets do that? Could you not connect to random nostr servers if you wanted to?

Nostr is a good alternative, I wish cost could be distributed to user by requiring self hosting instead of relying on big/paid relays

I find a lot of these "influencers" to be contradictory. A lot them talk about being champions of decentralization, Bitcoin and etc but, they fully and willingly support and use a centralized system like twitter which is the complete opposite of the technology they are "championing"

I'd have more respect for these so called influencers if they were serious about using freedom tech and figuring out ways to take advantage of a protocol like Nostr to build a following to support whatever it is they are trying to sell.

I will happily give my hard earned sats to support any project that is built with freedom tech as opposed to giving fiat to anyone on twitter.

Imagine getting rugged by Elon lol

The problem is all the non influencers whose attention pays their rent have an incentive to leave twitter for a place that doesn’t suppress their speech

When NOSTR gets enough users, this will not longer be a problem. Most people joining social media want to somehow grow a bigger audience. This is not currently possible on NOSTR because of the low number of users. NOSTR needs to get some good PR and get the word out! All the recent media coverage of Threads included mentions of Blue Sky and Mastadon. As far as I know there were no mentions of NOSTR. This is simply a lack of focus on PR. NOSTR needs a PR agency! #grownostr

It's up to the plebs, leave #Twitter once and for all, and the so called "influencers" will follow.

Whatever happened to standing for something ? Surely someone who is an ‘influencer’ should have something worth influencing. Obviously not. Most likely from the McCormack Institute of Idiocy 🤷‍♂️

I respect their need and right to work. I don't respect the morality choices.

Bullseye. I don't blame them for the system being totally fucked, hate the game not the player. But that doesn't mean I won't also judge the fuck out of them for taking the "easy" money rather than go without to help build something better.

Amen to that!

Absolutely spot on. I feel like I'm in that same boat. It pains me deeply to see even friends take the knee to twitter blue bs before they even give Nostr a chance. I mean they'll be back here eventually, I just hate being in the position of potentially saying, 'told ya so'.

*Always were

All of us: keep fighting for freedom. More will choose it.

Indeed, the pursuit of engagement can lead to certain compromises. Nostr fixes the incentives from scratch. 💜🫂

I think once Nostr reaches a critical mass of usership, and not just the tech-oriented, Bitcoin-minded (a crowd which I am a member of), they’ll have incentive to do so. The fact that “influencers” have audiences of mostly sheepish (for lack of better terms) people who do mindless-scroll and aren’t fully aware of the issue of centralized social media, then that’s where their bread and butter is.

The process of correctly and efficiently setting up Nostr (ie — w the clients and verification), is where the bottleneck of signups is, I believe.

At the base layer, ppl are lazy.

I don’t think it’s either or

I think they just don’t know about nostr. I’ve been speaking to influencers who were shocked to learn that nostr exists

The problem is that nostr is not super easy to use yet and people don’t know about it

Tell them it's a way to own their follower lists. The best job security for an influencer persona is to ensure no one else can take that list away from them.

I like nostr without the rampant chasing of social celebrity status

Which creates a huge opportunity for those who are early here to build lasting value by “skating to where the puck is going”

Problems can be opportunities for those fortunate and enough to see them.

They are already openly admitting to self censoring to collect their blue check rev share

There has been so much news exposing Facebook for the fascist organisation that it is, and yet 3 billion people continue to use it. That tells you all you need to know about how fringe, and small a group, we who care about freedom tech are.

World doesn't need more influencers.

World needs more innovators.

Pls give me a reason why we should give a fck about this ppl.

Are they truly trapped?

I just ask cuz I'm old enough to remember the internet in its infancy, and whatever the internet is now, it is not as free as it used to be. NOSTR brings a lot of that feeling back!

To me as a yt content creator that is exactly the dilemma. And I am still trying to figure out “what do I really want to do”. Feeling like a traitor at yt but kinda not letting go. Hard decision. Let’s keep learning and see where curiosity leads me.

Yes. How to be independent of the shackes of modern world.

Weird today on Twitter. I don’t have blue, but Twitter won’t let me access the site if I don’t offer my phone number. So I guess this is really the end for me there.

It's the old 'network effects' problem again.

That was a buzzword a few years ago, but I think it applies to the bird app - network effects are strong there.

I respect that influencers rely on engagement and sponsors to pay their rent and would rather comply with kyc identity verification rather than abandon these platforms and sponsorships for non-kyc & p2p.

That is the problem. The kyc apologists are captured.

"That is the problem. The blue checks are captured."

Maybe. It's the everybody else leaving that needs to be worked on. The blue ticks only being able to influence each other would just be a circle jerk, with no payoff.

The next problem is proprietary controlled fediverse instances under corporate moderation and control. Or whatever other walled garden comes up next.

The only long term solution is to teach people about freedom and democracy.

Keep up the good work.

Twitter is getting more and more unreadable, at least for those who don’t subscribe. There’s a commercial tweet, most of times unrelated to the feed, every 4 or 5 tweets. Just too much, user experience is getting worse by the day.

"That is the problem. The blue checks are captured."

Thanks for understanding. On other apps we can use the views and likes to get partnerships and such. Like sponsorships. And use it as a part of our resumes. Here the Zaps (pew pew) are cool n all, but we need view too. 😉

💗💫

More blue check bitcoiners need to hear this.

They also tend to be the same bunch pushing Linked In and Doxxing.

You know we supashadowy coders won't stand for thaaatttt :d

Indeed, the network effect is probably the strongest moat.

The sheep congregate

I soooooooo respect Influencers! In fact, I’m such a PRETTY Girl, gonna become one!! 💅🏼

I shall put on my hot pink 🇫🇷Dior dress (vintage “New Look” style) and take a gorgeous selfie pic (heavily photoshopped) surrounding myself with my many, many Birkins gifted to me by French Architect/Real Estate Developer Alain in my quest to seek more VIP Sugar Daddies! 💅🏼💋

The 🇬🇧Cambridge Uni English Banker only got me 2 books as a prezzie when visited me. What a cheap bastard! Good music taste tho, likes 🇬🇧Radiohead.

My DREAM is to become the next Aimee Song!

They will have no where to go when they get censored on twitter , at least they shud start building an alternative reality on Nostr
