A common expression I’ve heard from boomers is “I want the last check I write to bounce”.

Meaning I am not planning on leaving anything for anyone, I’m going to spend it all on me and my temporary desires.

Many individual boomers are good people, but as a whole they were a bad generation, perhaps one the worst to yet exist in American life.

They got my generation trapped in a massive Ponzi scheme. Debt and UBI for the elderly essentially creates generational warfare.

This is very true.

I read the book Die with Zero, which actually advocated giving money/wealth to your kids when they are like 30 if you actually want to pass along your wealth. The alternative was make that last check bounce. To be fair, I think there are boomers on both sides of the equation, but generally agree with the overall sentiment.

Anyone who has something to pass on and chooses not to is a sociopath imo.

I concur. Even if you hate your kids, which many boomers do because they ruined them, find somewhere else to deploy it.

Making the millennials experience / value proof of work

The guy from BitBlockBoom

They gave us full blown fiat and now they give us the middle finger as they drift away lol

Better times ahead once they die off, no offense

I'm lucky that my boomer dad was as unselfish as they came. A true legend that sacrificed a lot for his family.

In the end, he made sure his kids inherited a couple of properties, and even his estranged wife could live indefinitely on one of them.

RIP dad

And can we also say, like fucking cheap at the same time? Govt pension, Rolex, paid off houses/cars, millions in retirement account.

But they wanna tip $2.00 at dinner in 2024 😂

That’s because they were raised by depression era parents.

Going through that and WW2 changes you.

Yeah, and I’m describing my alcoholic Vietnam vet grandfather who worked at a nuclear weapons facility 😂

The restaurant I work at serves a lot of boomers and their attitude is absurd

and the loaded boomerd still want their full social security checks.

young people are paying 15% into a program they wont benefit from while mr boomer with 5 mill in his IRA demands his social security payouts

Yes. I know many who have this perverse attitude. It is truly sick to not want to transfer your wealth to your children. It is fucked up.

Do you approve of what Owen says about Jewish people?

I don’t follow Owen. So I have no idea what he says about Jewish people.

Oh you should watch his streams

The same kind of generalizations he says about boomers.

Judging a person based on the day they were born is not how I spend my time.

Shouldn't we hate the game not the player? Boomers were gifted 50 years of lower interest rates, quality jobs, and low costs.

We would all have done the same thing.

The issue is the game changed and many aren’t able to adapt mentally and empathize with their children

Boomers are the first generation of humanity that wants to do *better* than their children.

I have to say I disagree.

EVERYONE has to take responsibility for their own lives, and not blame someone else.

At no time in history is there a greater opportunity for each of us to achieve success.

As Henry Ford said: "Whether you believe you can, or believe you can not--you're right"

Yeah absolutely, but there’s no denying that the climb has gotten tougher recently and many people won’t be able to make it.

It’s objectively more difficult to sustain a family on one income than it was before.

We can face that reality straight and take responsibility for our futures while also pointing out the boomer generation kinda sucks and they created much of this mess

Social security is the antithesis of taking responsibility for your own life

But your point is well taken - young people should never adopt an attitude of resentment or hopelessness

This is literally what my dad tells me, he has a 200$/month mortgage he will never pay off whilst I'm paying 2k$/month for a smaller apartment.

Gen X here. It’s not that I disagree, it’s just that I’ve found that I’m happier when I see people as individuals. Just my two sats. ✌🏻

Taking out a massive loan - and laughing about how they’ll be dead long before they’ve made any significant payments 🤦‍♀️

OTOH, they certainly weren't commies. Gen Z is shaping up to become total commie fodder and that probably won't end too well.

The commies in high positions of power right now are certainly boomers

Gen z is rebelling against the commies as well. Some ignore politics on purpose, even.

Oh, well. What could you expect from the persons who were raised in batches of 10 or so? Who had to share small cabin with their siblings. Who had to take turns to go to school while they had only one or two pairs of shoes at the winter. Who got nothing from their parents but endless hunger. Who taught their children to respect food, if the morning porridge was not eaten it was put in the fridge and served as lunch, cold. Whose parents went through WW II and had their emotional disabilities. Who had their own shortcomings of life.

I was raised by boomers, not expecting anything from them and not providing anything for them as well. They had their wish to be independent, till their end of life.

> as a whole they were a bad generation, perhaps one the worst to yet exist in American life

what hateful nonsense.

completely meaningless generalization, simply stirring up animosity in 1 group against another.

Why are you so triggered by such a broad innocuous statement?

Fuck Boomers.

The only question is if we write them out of the history books in retaliation to the destruction they’ve facilitated, or if we make them an example of what no generation should ever be again.

Either way, history will not be kind to them.

I suspect that there will be many more boomer style generations. I think it’s an inevitable part of the cycle of humanity. Not sure it can be stopped even if we shame them etc…

If history and humanity is cyclical then yes, there will be more Boomer equivalents in future.

They’re not writing history though, whoever comes out on top of this fourth turning is.

Millennials and Zoomers will decide their place in history so we should decide whether to erase them out of spite or make them the cautionary tale: nostr:npub10jnx6stxk9h4fgtgdqv3hgwx8p4fwe3y73357wykmxm8gz3c3j3sjlvcrd

It was an unnatural event

I think about this constantly recently.

Once you have kids - why tf do you do anything if not for them.

How could you earn a small fortune and not want your kids to have it?

(on the other hand - i see the drawback of giving them so much that they could never feel productive.)

If you are thoughtful in how you raise them then I don’t think money will ruin them.

Fund their entrepreneurial endeavors not lavish lifestyle basically

Exactly. Provide a safety net but expect them to get out and compete and win.

Well said. I say kick them out at 19 and bring them back at 20. They'll be grateful for what theyre given and have that real world harsh experience.

It isn't that Boomers might be one of the worst generations in American history, they absolutely without a doubt are the worst generation in human history.

Their legacy will be viewed as the undisputed nadir of our species, damage that would have been totally irreparable were it not for technological paradigm shifts.

Their transformation from entitled socialist hippies to self involved failures as parents to resource vacuums who have nuked the economy is unparalleled.

Recency bias turned up to 10?

Owen does love making sweeping generalizations about groups of people.

i want my last zap to bounce⚡️

Along with this there has been a mentality shift.

More people working in corporate jobs without ownership. Fewer family businesses with ability to involve children and pass company along.

Separates the generations. You have to proactively make the effort to keep your family line glued together.

I like how they just have no empathy either about how much tougher it is to make it now vs when they did. My first boss was a director of IT and had a political science degree lol. If he was my age he would be a barista with that. I’m glad my parents aren’t like most boomers tho.

They were also able to work part time while studying to pay for their degrees. The gaslighting is real

They only had to compete with their local community, not the whole world 😂 must be nice

They said “just get any degree and you’ll be fine” bc in that era that was true 😂

“I want the last check to bounce” goes against everything that is prudent, good, and righteous.

“A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children.”

-Proverbs 13:22

just a sad reflection of a very egotistical generation that fails to understand just how different the world is now and how the fiat system and endless growth and consumption mentality has rotted society

Hey! I sat at the top of a pyramid scheme and so should you! But first give me my cut!

At first, I thought that it was only a problem with my dad and my stepdad.

Then, after hearing so many stories, I realized it might be generational.

Prevaleceremos 🫡🦬

It's strange. Perhaps too many people combined with not enough individual attention made them selfish and egotistical. Why did their parents have to have so many kids at once? It's not like the world was ending. A completely emotionally screwed up generation who wonders why we never call them.

I am a boomer... still working in Asia and amazed that millennials and Gen Z cannot retire me... Most younger people living abroad are unemployable and I need to hire Asians if I want to get anything done. I tried hiring from the UA and my Teams calls were pointless. I am in my late 60's and my daughters are thriving here. There are so many ways to make money now and some just need to get to work and stop complaining. Kids in China and Korea also are faced with these issues but they responding better than Americans. I do feel sorry for you in that the US is dying via 1000 paper cuts. By the way I have a MK4 and picking up a Start 9 the next time I am back in the country. My homes will all go to my daughters....

This is dumb envy talking, and I hope you don't really believe it. If someone earns money from work or sound investments it is their property. They should be able to set it on fire if they want. If they got lucky, lucky them, but that doesn't give me or anyone else the right to their good fortune

Nothing to be envious about regarding the boomers, I’m doing better than most of them.

Nah man, HODL is on point. I'm also better off than most boomers so no reason for envy but their generation advocated for all the most short sighted political solutions that transferred more weath to themselves and away from the future. They refused to feel any economic pain and in fiat fashion kicked the ball down the road knowing if they could do it long enough then they would be dead, they would get the free lunch that their kids and grandkids would pay for it.

what about instead giving while you're alive?
