proton is getting really good
Discussion
wouldn't trust the wallet tho
I've been playing with it and it's pretty straightforward. It's a self-custodial wallet that backs up an encrypted copy of your seeds to your Proton account. Given their good track-record with encryption and security, I see no reason to not trust the wallet. If something is revealed, and evidence is uncovered, that's a different story, but as it is, it seems to be a perfectly suitable wallet with excellent security geared towards the masses.
I've used it. It's easy and beginner friendly not something you trust your life savings to.
I can co-sign to that. It's definitely not a pro wallet for real bitcoiners. It's an intro wallet than I think has been designed to be welcoming and easy for the normies.
Yes, would even make more sense if they implement https://spark.info/ L2 Bitcoin when released.
Still no linux support.
Of course there is:
Half-backed linux apps; No flatpaks; the VPN app is missing 99% of features; No Calendar app; No Proton Drive support (the most requested feature on their site, for years)... so yeah no linux support.
imagine thinking privacy via a particular app is a thing. you're adorable, dorsey.
no i am not sending you an email again to unlock your whatever whatever. you never reply.
I've been happy with it for many years
love proton
Thatโs a hell of an endorsement ๐ณ

Yup. Was a big project, migrating my household there. Worth it.

Shows when you support nascent technologies that they will improve and be able to out compete the monoliths!

Agreed. Switch over to the Proton suite moving from Apple to GrapheneOS. Love my set up.
Do you get notifications on Proton without installing google play services on GrapheneOS?
And good support for Linux:
Proton Mail Bridge for Linux โ
Linux password manager โ
VPN app for Linux โ
Paid sub for a few years now. So far, so good!
Hey i made an anonymous post app - post whatever you in posts that last 24 h - presented to a lot of peep today - pretty good - https://spiritwrites.net
Works flawlessly with Qubes OS also. Running Proton VPN in a disposable qube (VM) side by side with Mulvad and tailgate ...
Always has been.
I donโt like apps with subscriptions although it might be the better option and I am just old. Give me a good app and Iโll pay for it but then it belongs to me and if I choose to not use it for half a year nothing happens. But this subscription thing feels like if all of my stuff at home was just rented and if I stop paying it will stop working.
you can have encrypted email on any email hosting provider if you know how to install s/mime or pgp on your email client
Unless if you wanna delete more than 50 filtered mails at a time.
Or if you wanna delete an email address and first have to manually delete all mails related to it, again 50 at a time.
Proton sucks if you don't follow the very basic workflow they have in mind for you.
Lastly, there are not many signs of this, but Proton was created by CERN humans not entirely free from government ideology. E.g. How will they respond to WHO data requests during the next plandemic? Are they willing to block anti-"vaccine" mails, if WHO orders them to?

Do they even have the capacity to do targeted blocks like that? Your email is supposed to be encrypted at rest, at least, but I'm not sure when that happens. If they receive unencrypted and then encrypt to your account, they'd definitely be able to, but I'm not sure if there's a way to avoid that or not.
I think they can, unless you use their Proton Bridge and send client encrypted (PGP) mails ๐ค
I use it for 5 years and it's great.
Have a look at these two too:
both are good with only 1-Euro per month
both have pro's and con's and are are littel bit different
and the later one has a heritance solution that's pretty good
Try it with a dummy e-mail-adress for 30 days and
then go serious with registering the one's you want and need...
How so?
Right, encryption! Emails and messages?
I use it and I use Proton Pass and Orbot as a VPN service.
