Lots of smart people in the world do not use ad blockers. How do you explain this?

Researching now for iPhone YouTube. That's really the only source of my issues. Seems there may be apps, but historically, though I haven't tried very hard, they are more trouble than they're worth and flaky

Regular web too. Sometimes removing ads gets rid of half the page content. It's kind blowing.

That's going to be the case with any of them probably. They are viewing the entire web page source and modifying it before you view to remove ads. This is why it's a good idea to get a trusted & open source one. It looks like that one is fwiw.
On my phone the VPN I use does all the ad blocking.

If you use a VPN it probably has it built in. On mine it's labeled as tracking protection, but it blocks ads too, at the DNS level.
Nord. Doesn't do crap for YouTube (the app anyway, and there are advantages to using the app, signed in no less...god I hate YouTube) as far as I can tell.
This new one has upgrades available for payment, and mentions better ad blocking for YouTube, but species in browser... something tells me doing it to the app isn't easy. It does seem I have less middle ads, but still get one banner to start.
Anyway, will research further
When Nord runs out try mullvad or iVPN. They will have the DNS ad blocking for no extra fees. I always avoided Nord, anything advertised by YouTube people is a red flag for me ๐ฉ๐
Yeah, I was gonna feign opsec concerns and not reveal that specific detail. Cuz I know it's sad, and have reasoned same. Just that I set it up so long ago and always auto-renew before I get a chance to change it.

Both mullvad and iVPN let you pay with lightning too, no KYC or identification of any kind needed.
Obscura too I gather. Though unclear how it's not strictly better than mullvad if it's supposedly mullvad plus another layer of security, but didn't wanna drag this into the weeds and wear out my tech support welcome
I'm not sure about Obscura, I've never considered it due to limited OS support. If I'm recommending something and it isn't available for 90% of the people it's kind of useless.
Some smart people have told me they like ads. I just don't get it.

Being intelligent does not necessarily make you an independent thinker, or even a thinker at all. It does not necessarily cure laziness or the herd mentality. There are a lot of high-IQ people who believe in crazy religions, who jab themselves every chance they get, and who think that the Jewish media and academic establishments are founts of truth.

People - even smart ones - are not aware of every single thing nor have the time to get-to-caring about even just the important things.

Depending on what you browse and how you try to block, running ad blockers can be a pretty headache-y tradeoff.
What's the opinion of browsers like brave with built in adblock. I just turn off all the crapto stuff and the tracking stuff.

I did not learn about the Brave browser until about a year ago, which is kind of embarrassing. Big tech doesn't advertise privacy preserving tools, and they actually do a great job hiding them in my opinion.
Also, I'd like to complain about website cookies for a minute. Cookie Accept/Reject windows/prompts are deceptive. WTF is a necessary cookie anyway? Those are how I justify my 2nd or 3rd chocolate chip cookie to my wife.
The answer should always be by default to REJECT ALL COOKIES. There should be less fine print for cookies... like I'm accepting the Terms & Conditions drafted by a bitch-ass lawyer for a Big Tech app's consent to probe my butthole (aka share my data).

They might be afraid the be caught using ad blockers - doing something illegal. They might be afraid to get in trouble with the state.

I think that it does not matter if they're smart. A of of these people also went along with everything they were told to do during covid, definitely took the covid shot and didn't bother to see what's in there.

A lot of smart people with no distrust of authority will let their enemies hijack their brain power and justify their positions for them.
In this case, they will be too lazy to bother installing an extension in 30s and rationalize that laziness with random arguments when pressed.
