Thanks. Are you able to withdraw to a Lightning Wallet from Cash App? Is there an equivalent in the UK I wonder.
Discussion
Cash App is a Lightning wallet and we're fully interoperable with all other wallets. So, you can send to anyone! Not sure about the UK 🇬🇧
Cash App is my go-to for buying bitcoin but I can’t use their Lightning feature, so I have to withdraw it on-chain to a different wallet where I can use Lightning without Ben Lawsky smugly giving me the finger.
Wish CashApp would lower fees
You can direct deposit into BTC for free.
I have been doing that but still purchase other days when I feel the need to spend money. 🙃
Where are you feeling the fee pain at? Buying or transferring?
Ohhh New York, why do you have such great pizza and such backwards bitcoin laws?
Why can’t you use lightning on cash app? When the QR code pops up simply long press and then let go on the QR code for cash app to reveal the lightning address or on chain address that you can copy. If you use the lightning address make sure to put in the amount first before you copy the lightning address.
NYC won't allow it to be used by their citizens who use custodial services 😤
Citizens of NY state are slaves. Can hardly use any financial services or purchase firearms in that state. I visited NYC a year ago. I could not figure out why anyone would live there.
Amazing city.
What to act like a rich kid well into your 50’s, drink a lot, eat the best food, and get laid all the time? NYC.
Amazing city, but need to get out before it captures you.
Way better cities in the US with way better weather to do those things in than NYC, imo.
You’re probably right. Southern girls are easy when you have an NYC waspy swag
I don’t get the east coast swag either. 😅
I had to attend a waspy birthday party while I was in NYC. Everyone thought I was a unicorn because I was the only one from the other part of the country. When I told them I was from Orange County in Southern California I was the most interesting person in the room. New Yorkers and Long Islanders are just a totally different vibe than what I’m used to. Also how east coasters dress is hilarious. They lack style, it’s all terrible looking collared shirts with shorts that look ridiculous. 😅
Woah woah woah. Please don’t throw Long Islanders in with NYC people. They’re usually quite odd and DBs with way too much ego.
I’m taking about the ones that came from out of town (most people) and figured out a way to make it there.
True. NYC died a little bit during Covid. I’m curious if it will ever be what it was circa 2019 and earlier? Also not being able to eat at some restaurants because I’m pure blood was the most ridiculous thing I have ever personally witnessed when I visited. New Yorkers are slaves to their clown show elected officials.
I’m wondering if I will be allowed into the States for the BTC Conference, Miami…
Not at US citizen? Nope. You can thank the Democrat party for that.
Short term no.
It’s clown world out here with every single decision the city government makes.
Hochul as governor sealed the deal as well.
They are just spending their time asking the Federal Government for printed money to fund their social experiments at this point.
What Manhattan especially has going for it now was built 100 years ago.
It’s interesting. I had New Yorker and Long Island friends who grew up in both places visit me in Scottsdale and Newport Beach. Not one of them wanted to go back to NYC. They had very been to either place and couldn’t believe how much better everything was. One of my friends ended up moving from NYC to Scottsdale after the trip to visit me and said they would never move back to NYC or Long Island.
Found your post interesting so I scrolled up to see how the conversation began…how can a noob by Bitcoin??!! 😂😂😂
Also, Fuck NYC and their Draconian Covid measures. Clot shotted everyone including my buddy and his family of five
If it’s a good financial service or app it’s most likely banned in the state of New York. And in most cases, especially on Reddit, those New York residents will complain blaming the company instead of their state government. 🥴
New York residents. Especially those Bitcoiners know all about Bitlicense and our corrupt officials.
I was grandfathered into Swan Bitcoin before they shut off access to NY residents.
I think it was a Prime Trust custodian thing.
I just wanted some clarity on CashApp because if they have to apply for ANOTHER Bitlicense for lightning services that’s beyond ridiculous, but I wouldn’t be shocked.
Anyway #[7] appreciate the chat over what started as a CashApp inquiry.
Funny enough. It’s the people from out of town that came in and voted in the progressive hellscape.
NYC was great in the 2000s and our commie mayor DeBlasio was so incompetent pre-Covid that 2014-2019 wasn’t bad.
I agree there is a price/quality of life gross mismatch.
I was in San Diego last week and it did give me some perspective and stuff to think about in general.
My new job is 100% remote so I don’t know what the future brings with that.
East coaster here - never wear collared shirts - no function!!
That’s a very Manhattan transient perspective.
Some of us (like 6 of us) we’re born and raised here and have deeper ties here.
You’re right although other big cities have some major issues they need to figure out that makes the clown world of NYC crime for instance not seem as bad.
I do agree on the weather thing.
I realized I was a slave to New Yorker politicians when I couldn’t eat at certain restaurants because I’m pure blood. I couldn’t get out of that city fast enough. I was so happy to fly back to Scottsdale and Newport Beach. Instant upgrade in quality of life and quality of women. NYC I’m sure was cool years ago but that city sucks now, imo.
We can talk about bad government policies without turning things into a character assassination of people who live in a particular place. Like #[7] said, not everyone who lives here is just hanging around for the nightlife. There are millions of people here who can benefit from bitcoin, maybe even moreso than in other US states specifically because of the restrictions, and also because of its enormous international population who send money overseas to their families and get absolutely soaked by banks and payment companies.
No character assassination from me. I simply stated I have been to NYC, Long Island, etc. and I have zero clue why anyone would live there by choice. Lack of freedom, subpar weather, very high taxes / cost of living, etc. simply doesn’t fit my lifestyle at all. I have been fortunate enough to have lived in a lot of places in the United States and have traveled internationally so my perspective is a lot different than most.
People choose to live in lots of places, because of family, because of work, because of reasons that may not make sense to others. I’ve also had the benefit of living in other places but here’s where my roots are and the best I can do is be an advocate for changing the things that need to be changed.
Practically every reply I read on Nostr is from a personal basis with zero ability to see a broader view.
It’s quite shocking.
You can both be right. NYC is a concrete wasteland that smells like dog piss with too high taxes, fascist government, and vapid people.
It can also be an alphas playground, with amazing restaurants, amazing nightlife, the best of the best minds in the world, all competing to become the brightest in their respective fields, and an unmatched energy.
Most people who think they know about this city have only ever been here once or twice and stayed within a 10 minute cab ride of their hotel in Times Square. So essentially they know nothing.
All I said was that your reply was from a transient (outsider to NYC moving in) view and Manhattan-centric.
Am I wrong?
Then I proceeded to provide additional perspective.
Quite shocking you didn’t see this.
My “shocking” reply wasn’t to you.
Also, the vast majority of the people in Manhattan are outsiders moving in. OG residents are few and far between.
True, but you really only meet the more genuine people when you go to other neighborhoods further out. The immigrant communities are the best, they bring a whole lot more than any suburban transplant with a trust fund.
Fair enough.
There’s quite a few of “us” above 110th street.
I blame Bitlicense for this thread.
Repeal Bitlicense then I don’t have to defend that maybe my time living in Brooklyn, Roosevelt Island (look it up if not from there), Harlem, Washington Heights etc. as an additional data point.
You never even lived in Manhattan?
Harlem and Washington Heights are Manhattan.
Not really. Manhattan is 90th and below. It’s a completely different world up there compared to below 90th. Can maybe stretch to 110th (top of Central Park) but Harlem is Harlem.
You just showed that you don’t understand geography. Manhattan is the entire island and even includes Roosevelt Island and a small section in the Bronx. Harlem is a neighborhood in the borough of Manhattan. I should know, as I live there.
Ok?
It’s vastly different up there, particularly as far as safety goes. (Though below 90th has gotten much worse since DeBlasio). Washington Heights is essentially an odd suburb of Manhattan (though safe) and they both take 45 minutes or longer to get there from east/west village.
It’s an entirely different world.
This is where I have to call bullshit, I’m sorry.
Manhattan is the landmass. Not what that office manager class deems it is.
Manhattan has a rich and diverse history that’s not going to have a demarcation line because there are fewer bistros.
Columbia University is on 116th.
Barnard as well.
Alexander Hamiltons house is up in inwood.
I have to draw the line there.
There’s an island. It’s manhattan island. It runs from South Ferry to 215th street.
Describing anything outside a specific zip code as “another world” is a very privileged viewpoint.
The whole city smells of piss and car exhaust fumes! It's not limited to just one borough. I wouldn't want to stay there for more than a week regardless of where I'm staying.
Lol. “Privileged.” Perhaps, perhaps.
Or I just worked my ass off to be “privileged.”
It’s funny how the BTC community is supposed to be more Laissez fare and independent but then often spout far left divisive commentary.
“Privileged.” 😆
Are you not privileged to be here early? What’s wrong with “privilege,” asides from using it as a cudgel to bash anyone with a modicum of success?
Meh, north of 90th is closer to queens than it is Manhattan.
Wow. This conversation is over.
You need a tour guide and a clue respectfully.
The politics are terrible here but not as bad as your understanding of the city.
One thing I couldn't get over when I visited was the firearms I own, if I moved to NYC, brought them with me, and got caught with them would land me in prison for 10 years per firearm. Here in Utah they are 100% legal.
Yeah it’s ridiculous.
Laws are different upstate so you have to avoid the city if you’re traveling from upstate to Long Island or Jersey. They don’t give a shit.
Careful bringing guns into New Jersey, if you live here you're not even allowed to have your gun locked in the trunk of your car unless you're going from a gun store to your home, or on the way to the range. You'll get into trouble otherwise.
Laws like that makes you a slave to your government and perfectly represents what those state politicians think of the citizens they are supposed to represent and be the voice for. No thank you!
Yes, there are reasons why having a lot of guns might make more sense in a state with an entire population less than half of the five boroughs. If that’s the life people want they should absolutely purse it wherever it’s easiest to do that. This is a large country full of many possibilities.
What's interesting is when I was in NYC I felt naked not being able to conceal carry. I felt I needed it more in NYC than anywhere else I have lived or visited in the United States. Some sketchy people in that city, especially on the subways at night. I could not imagine being a small female in NYC with limited resources for self protection because of insane politics.
Again, that’s a preference. I’ve never seen a gun discharged in the entire time I’ve lived here, except as a demonstration. It will be interesting to see what happens now that the state laws have been challenged by the Supreme Court.
Yeah, it’s rare to see a gun go off, that’s mainly in Brownsville and seriously rough areas. Though It’s not rare to see someone randomly punched in the face now. DeBlasio and Jeffrries really ruined the city.
The SCOTUS isn't challenging NY state gun laws, they ruled them illegal and unconstitutional. NY state isn't complying with the Bruen ruling. Those state officials should all be in jail, imo.
I understand the city very well. You’re just sad your part of the city is more Akin to queens than it is below 90th.
Get a map and a clue. Bye, chica. 👋
Funny, his grave is at Trinity Church in FiDi.
Guess even he didn’t want to identify with being that far north.
I didn’t list everywhere I lived.
Yes I have lived in Manhattan. I worked in Manhattan. I’ve had best friends in Manhattan.
I would refrain from being authoritative about things you don’t know.
Give me any street in Manhattan and I can tell you how to get there without an app. I’d say I’m pretty familiar with the area…
Totally understand that and that's why I said live there "by choice". The things you mention like family, work, etc. would mean you lack the choice to live somewhere else.
Just know if you ever decide to move to another state your quality of life will massively improve, especially the fiat you get to keep in your wallet. I lived in SF for five years, highest state, county, and city income tax in the nation. When I moved to another state I was honestly shocked at how much more money I got to take home per paycheck. I was so accustom to the high taxes of SF I had the mentality everyone paid the tax rate I did. I was so wrong. Plus getting out of the city where there was so much crime, homelessness, and human suffering was so good for my mental health.
It’s because the asshole who proposed it was able to cash out of his regulatory position and provide consulting services to businesses on how to navigate it.
Usual NY politics and corruption.
It is the fiat capital of the world after all…
I don’t understand this regulatory restriction.
CashApp seems to already be able to allow NY residents to hold Bitcoin in their (CashApp’s) custody, I think you need the Bitlicense for that.
Does CashApp need another Bitlicense approval process for Lightning or you just can’t do it at all?
#[6] for the deep details!!! ⬆️
It's not just NYC, its the whole state of nearly 20 million people. But if you live 10 minutes away in New Jersey, it's Lightning party time!

CoinCorner is in the UK and has lightning enabled.
