On chain.

Own lightning node using nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm Go lightning wallet.

On chain. If im forced to use lightning its gonna be a payment from a swap service like trocador.app

I like to use custodial services for small payments and zaps, for large amounts of course self custody onchain is the safest.

I use nostr:nprofile1qqsf07zg4hxyccnkdp07fppxmetpfzru3fg6mgzx3nk8r7af8qnjjygpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgtcpzamhxue69uhky6t5vdhkjmn9wgh8xmmrd9skctcppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp066595x for my zaps and lightning purchases and transfers.

Own LN wallet, but you knew my answer already. I like AH, but wish I could have my own domain and relay configured easily, now it’s not possible to the same degree as Alby account

Lightning via aqua or Phoenix, rarely do onchain

You know my answer! Paying with nuts all day long. 🥜

Own lightning or onchain

Thanks for the sats mate. Cool.

As long as non-KYC, I honestly don’t care about the technology behind. It should just work.

Of course, if custodial, I’ll never leave large amounts there

long term savings - on chain in cold storage

monthly savings from income - on chain in hot wallet

spending - lightning wallet & ecash

It depends on the use case.

If a payment needs to be instant, without a doubt Lightning ⚡️

For everything else, on-chain ⛓️

I haven’t really used the other setups yet, to be honest (still a bit of a newbie there) I’m just moving from WoS to Phoenix to better understand how things work.

🥜

🥜 in Zeus too.

-> own lightning wallet: running a self hosted node with Alby Hub + AlbyGo (simple and straightforward)

Why? Sovereignty and privacy with plenty of nerdiness 😂

And 🥜

And NWC is 🚀

Alby Go linked to my Start9 lightning node via NWC.

This is the best option IMHO. Self-custodial lightning that's fast. Alby Hub on Start9 is by far the easiest way to host and manage an LND node. It still comes with some challenges, and you still have to pay to open the channels (which could be expensive in a high fee environment), but it's your Bitcoin, not an IOU. I run Start9 on an old HP mini PC that cost about $150 with a 2TB SSD and it's been extremely stable.

By now I only expended small amounts, custodial is enough.

It's not for everyone, but I love using my own lightning node.

Why not for everyone?

Well it wasn't impossible, but the challenges include

* Getting a PC/laptop

* Access to 24/7 power and internet

* The technical hurdle of setting up

I consider it well worth the effort. But not everyone has the drive to execute

own lightning wallet... ofc

AlbyGo connected to my node using lnd + albyhub

Large payments, onchain.

Small payments, onchain.

Tiny payments, lightning.

Micro payments, ecash.

onchain or LN depends on the value of the tx. but in a normal situation let's say its LN, my order now is 1)Spark 2)Custodial 3)own.

1)because it's convinient, also has onchain and have some control over funds 2) convenience for small amounts it's ok. 3)Phoenix mostly, it's almost as good as 1 or 2 but you still have to manage liquidity, be online to receive, and in high fees already had some problems depositing via onchain.

I prefer own Lightning wallet for paying with Bitcoin (with Alby Hub on server and Alby Go on mobile)

Own lightning wallet is ideal.

Large payments, onchain.

Small payments, onchain.

Tiny payments, non-custodial lightning. (Phoenix Wallet)

Micro payments, custodial lightning. (WoS)

I use Alby hub on my own start9 for lightning. I also have Aqua as a backup. I like Aqua for the sole purpose of, if I convince someone new to use Bitcoin for small payments at least it's non custodial and they don't have to worry about channel management since it's Liquid.

Lightning wallet (my own or custodial doesn't matter much).

I'm surrounded by merchants that accept lightning outright, so I realize that I might be a special case.

Do you mean, they exclusively use self-custody wallets?

Do not add Spark / Ark crap onto Alby Hub !

It will be the end of Alby...

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

hehe, that question has nothing to do with Alby Hub. that’s a lightning wallet.

just trying to see people’s opinion here.

what’s your main argument why you don’t like Spark/Ark?

Spark is a trap from Marcus Family and should be treated very seriously as an enemy of Bitcoin, no matter how much they like to pretend to be bitcoiners. They're not.

Ark is just a joke. Ark will always depend on LN to get out from ASP, using a swap channel, so again will be "gates" from ASP that can easily be KYCed and controlled.

So come the question: if I need anyways a LN channel why would I enter into an ASP ? Ark is just a scam for poor and clueless newbies.

Couldn’t you compare an Ark wallet to something like Phoenix where users are stuck with a single LSP? I don’t agree with the roach motel idea. It’s much easier to accumulate and then exit versus providing all liquidity up front. Also, if users get censored and KYC’d the service will fail. There are some great developers working on Ark implementations, they aren’t building this to rugpull users…

Use on-chain for self custody. To pay last mile swap it from liquid into a custodial lightning wallet and pay.

On-chain for savings or larger payments that are not very time-sensative.

Liquid L-BTC atomic-swapped with lightning for meidum-sized, time-sensative payments.

Custodial lightning via Cashu for smaller-sized, time-sensative payments.

* nostr:npub18ull0tdnj9vugtq259k48szg80al44ta7g4fa85nvj3svaq7kt8s9udcl9 wallet is my current go-to for moving funds between the 3 modes.

Own lightning wallet

Own LN. Using primal

own lightning node connected to umbrel home server via tailscale

Zeus Wallet —> AlbyHub —> Start9

Long term - on chain

Spending - LN (Blixt)

For onchain I use Sparrow paired with my own node.

For lightning - happy with Phoenix.

Will probably run a lightning node again - just took a break from it for now.

what made you take a break from running a node?

I was travelling a lot and then was moving house so it just made sense to shut it down. It’s back up and running- just need to fund it!

half of the people on nostr i can't zap. running Alby Hub.

Failed to connect to wss://relay.getalby.com/v1

I use 3 main solutions in concert.

Shakepay. Good for onboard / swap and pay.

Tangem wallet for cold storage.

Wallet of Satoshi for zapping

Onchain cause fees are low! No excuses.

I would recommend a multi level system.

A wallet like Phoenix (self custody) - that can do lightning & and onchain - on your iphone for “pocket money” in day to day life and then some real safe distributed cold storage solutions

Self custody WoS

Cold storage to lightning to eCash mobile wallet.

💎 Large & small payments, onchain via nostr:nprofile1qqsfy229w70e8lgtxavlz9t78k06yrel6fxyhreteafqet8kfxhhwmgpr9mhxue69uhhqun9d45h2mfwwpexjmtpdshxuet59uq3vamnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwwpexjmtpdshxuet5uzhxm7

Onchain ⛓️‍💥

Cove + tapsigner for sub 1k

Sparrow + Coldcard

Lightning ⚡️

Phoenix Wallet

Micropayments or social

Primal

Fountain

With a lightning custodial wallet.I don't run my own lightning wallet yet.

AlbyGo Lightning Wallet + Albyhub on Raspiblitz

Onchain to stack

Lightning from multiple places, some custodial some not - to spend.

And I guess #5

The most secure way is with BIP47.

Never custodial.

As private as possible.

Sovereign.

that’s onchain then to receive?

and you also only pay onchain?

I run a lightning node but the best way is what I said

Custodial LN (NWC wallets) is fine for everyday payments. Above €100 is use Strike, Above €1000 cold Trezor.

why do you use a different one above and below €100?

Because I don’t trust enough NWC wallets yet :) And actually I’m not spending BTC from Strike, I just buy there €100 worth BTC every month, then deposit every €1000 worth BTC to Trezor.

Thanks for the explanation.

with trust you mean that they work or that they steal your money?

I don’t think any NWC wallet provider would “steal my money” but none of them I found reliable ENOUGH so far.

I mean, my money never disappeared, but the providers (Primal, YakiHonne, Damus via external NWC wallets, or the wallet-only Coinos) all had unresponsive instances where I had to restart or wait some hours to have all functionality back.

lighting wallet like Phoenix or breez. Simple to use, lots of features/options. Runs well doesn't crash or get stuck.

Definitly cashu because the fees are almost inexistant and for simplicity.
