nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx had this deft and probing question for nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m : is it a good business decision when social media companies turn their services into walled gardens?
The subtext: are social media companies LYING THROUGH THEIR FUCKING TEETH when they say it is?
My interp of Jack’s answer is that he knows it’s a bad business decision, he knows they know, and he knows they’re lying when they say it is. But he can’t say that straight up. So he dodged the question.
Which prevented ODELL from asking the juicy followup: what’s the REAL reason for the walled gardens? What are they covering up?
We all know the real answer: CONTROL.
Who wants control? The social media companies? Not exactly … it’s their masters.
When Jack says (or implies, I don’t recall) it’s a good business decision, he’s probably not wrong, considering the state is probably making them offers they can’t refuse. It’s bad business to defy the state.
This fight we’re in is life or death.
