Can you imagine.
Price primarily.
wat? There are operating systems that cost 0, windows is not one of them
True, but you have to be hardcore to use Linux. If you walk into Costco or Walmart, on average the Windows machines will be much cheaper.
Been Linux only since 2006 (19 years) on my personal computers.
Work forces me to use MS on a daily basis.
Gaming
All my other devices are Linux though
Install Pop!_OS on your gaming rig (a linux dist with some more recent hardware support incl. NVIDIA)
Then install STEAM on linux :)
https://www.howtogeek.com/753511/how-to-download-and-install-steam-on-linux/
This way I was able to finally get rid of the pest called MS Windows
Will the games that are for windows only (on Steam) also be available for Linux?
I continued to play the same games on linux as the ones I played on windows.
Steam deck also runs on linux I believe, so they made quite an effort to support and run all games.
But DYOR and only switch once you tested it on your rig.
Familiarity at this point. For some reason, I feel like FOSS is better on windows.
Because Windows is the most open system !
π
Yes, and war is peace.
Macs are overpriced Aluminium cases ! Linux satisfies specific use cases .. particularly dev ...chromeOS is Google's suvailence device :-) . That leaves Windows as the only choice ... No wonder 90 % of normal people use Windows ..
ridiculous. you claim ChromeOS to be a surveillance device and dont see Windows is doing the exact same. ever read the terms of use?
Absolutely.. windows does the same as everyone else .. but that is secondary aspect ..
Key thing is value that an OS delivers to users ..
You don't have to take my word for that .. most people use windows ..
Proof is in the pudding :-)
most people are retarded
Humility !
Normies are NOT dumb ... We seek value .. and we can smell ideologues from a distance ππ
Most are unwilling to learn
Totally agree π―
Cuz learning random things is a glorious waste of time :-) .. would you ever care how dirt is turned into cement ? ..or why Rubber is more important than computers ? Or all the organic chemistry ? Or weirdness or Lie Algebra !
It is lot better to watch a Netflix show instead .. and get back to your Duties next day ... And follow the herd for the things beyond your focus ...
I only use Windows if I need to. TurboTax is cheaper at Costco, but requires a software download available for Windows or Mac. Linux is not supported.
I installed Windows 11 on a Virtual Box VM and got a free, temporary Windows 11 license.
Microsoft is short bitcoin and ads suck so I don't want to waste sats on them.
Thank God I don't know what TurboTax exactly is π
Yes, for work at least, because my CAD software doesn't have a Linux version π€¦ My personal PC is Linux, however. I'm thinking about trying out Arch.
Using it since the 90s. Never had problems. Always used professionell Anti Virus Software and Software to block the most surveillance techniques from MS. But I have a Linux laptop either
I have been using windows all my life and only started getting familiar with linux in the last 2 years. It's still very comfortable for me. There's almost nothing on windows that feels cumbersome for my daily needs. I still find with linux sometimes that I spend way more time than I'd like just trying to figure out how to do basic stuff. Maybe that's just a me problem π€·ββοΈ.
I used Windows until I got an iMac SE with MacOS 9 and never went back.
Mixed with periods of Linux (Ubuntu and Fedora mostly).
Windows was always crapware, imo, and got worse over the years. Linux got better but can still be a pain in the ass.
It's still the 2nd most popular OS in the world.
Gaming.
I'll fully switch to Linux when updating an app doesn't kill some random os dependency forcing me to reinstall either the app or the whole dang os.
Don't get me wrong, I'm dying to but it is what it is. Munjaro Linux is super close to convincing me though π€π½
what about #Steam ?
It works fine, I even got it to run windows only games with proton pretty stable but that's not the gripe. The main issue is that out of nowhere there's a random dependency that gets taken out with a seemingly innocent update or app uninstall and it borks the OS.
I'm learning about immutable distros but not liking it so far.
interesting, thanks for sharing... however I ve never heard about or experienced that on a stable point release distribution there were such issues... what's your base system?
Munjaro and antiX for now. I've tried debian, RHEL and Arch based distros all with the same issue. My next attempt to have a daily driver will likely be an LTS or immutable distro but have not decided. Any recs for a good immutable release are welcome ππ½
TRY FEDORA, ITS THE ONLY LINUX OS THAT SEEMS STABLE TO ME PLUS GREAT UX. IDK ABIUT GAMING THO, TRYING TO MAKE THE SWITCH MYSELF
Hell NO, I stay away from malware.
I USE MANY OPERATING SYSTEMS, BUT WINDOWS IS STILL GREAT FOR GAMING. ZERO PERSONAL INFO GOES INTO THAT MACHINE OBVIOUSLY. ONCE I FIGURE OUT GAMING ON LINUX I'M OUT. NO REAL USE FORMACOS ANYMORE EITHER, FEDORA'S UX IS SUPERIOR
TLDR FUCK WINDOWS BUT YES I USE IT STILL
Not anymore.
I stopped using Winblows years ago. I use Linux and Mac nowadays. I value privacy, security, and self-sovereignty much more than anything Winblows offers. Thankfully I'm not forced to use it at work. I don't really miss it, plenty of good alternative native and web apps. I don't play that many video games anymore, most of them release with terrible quality and are perpetually in alpha. Seems like you're better of playing retro games via emulators with shaders. Linux can run plenty of Winblows games fine. I do miss playing DayZ but I just live vicariously by watching streamers. π
Happy with Linux. Never going back to Malware OS.
