I wanna see photos of eating out cheap dinners instead of breakfast from backyard chickens. I wanna hear stories about stuff gone weird on the daily subway commute instead of fixing up the truck.
They said a typhoon was coming for like three days now. We were at 大稻埕 Dadaocheng Pier Plaza over the weekend for fun day out.
This pier plaza area is filled with food and drink vendors. We had a local craft lager and a pizza. A+ on the beer, a generous B- on the pizza. There was a rent-a-bike shop if you wanted to ride along the river.
There's a festival space too and this weekend happened to be vegan food fest. Kinda cool to see all the creative dishes that each food vendor had. Eating vegetarian or vegan in Taiwan is pretty easy because of the local culture. Eating carnivore is pretty easy too 😂

these chips were delicious af. The snack food market is way more competitive in Taiwan. There are always new creative flavors on the shelves.
Lots of them are seasonal or limited time so if I see an interesting one, I snatch it up fast.
This bag is mapo tofu flavored. The spicy flavor and the numbing mala sensation was awesome. I hope this flavor isn't going away anytime soon.

Expert hands. She's been packing Chinese herbal medicine for most of her life. There are about 8 different ingredients in there.
When Mom heard that we were going to Dihua Jie 迪化街 for a walkabout, she told us to go pick up some herbal packets while we were out. She'll be using this to make a really healthy broth later.
It was so cool to see them pick out each ingredient one by one from their cabinets and then fold it all up in a neat, tight package.

SO BIG 👀 The tree is much older than 1850 when they started to build around it. These banyan trees are amazing treasures and it is so nice to see that they get respect they deserve.
This place is called the Six Arts Cultural Center focused on traditional arts such as tea ceremony and calligraphy along with martial arts. There's a huge building that serves as an active kendo (sword) training studio and there's an archery range in the back.
We saw a small kendo class going on while we were walking around. So cool to hear them practicing. I really want to try the archery. Maybe next time!

update! just got back from lunch.
I got the fried porkchop version since it won the poll. Verdict?
Pretty good! the fried pork and mozarella were crispy and complemented each other. there was also a sauce that was mustardy but also might have been some kind of cheese sauce? The bun had more flavor than a usual hamburger bun but not overpowering. The one downside was that it was quite a slippery burger, kinda annoying. Overall, I would get it again!

the use of pesticides and herbicides would really affect the flavor of the tea so farmers take a more holistic approach to maintain crop health.
on a side note, you should look into dongfang meiren tea 東方美人茶 aka oriental beauty tea. it is tea made from leaves that have been bitten by bugs in order to get it's distinct flavor.
this particular shop we went to is very traditional and doesn't have online ordering. after we decided what we wanted, she bagged it up, vacuum sealed the packaging and we paid in cash.
if you want to buy, you'd have to come into the shop.
