Yes, but that's not really a complete disincentive. Maybe they don't care about their wot and they're trolling, maybe their already famous and they get to be deceptive about what they've said publicly (c.f. SBF).

People in positions of power say a lot of deceptive things. The ability to rewrite history (aka 1984 sytle) is a wonderful tool for cultivating that power. Look at legacy media.

There are also bots that look pretty real telling new users some stupid stuff and linking to suspect web sites. Users need to beware that no censor means there will be more scammers, and they will be targeting new people. Nostr is an uncontrolled space. If you are looking for cross walks you will not find many.

you don't need a check mark to use nostr. You just need a client that allows you to select the relays you want to use.
Primal does not allow users to define the relays they read or write to. It's a walled garden that scrapes lots of relays to make it look free. It's great if you only talk to other primal users. Check out nostrudel.ninja on a desktop and you will see how relay selection matters.

Public data on nostr can be harvested by anyone, and will be abused. The more nostr grows the more bad actors will take notes, pun intended. And the algorithms are comming. But nostr is more than public data.

I think the devs pulled back on the nsec login too soon. ultimately it needs to be replaced, but without it user access to nostr is choked. The user that does not trust entering an nsec into an app is not going to trust entering it into a plugin either, and the user that does not care is just going to be annoyed that they need another app so that they may not even get to a first post.
Early nostr was slick, click new account and post in two secconds. That experience is profound.
When apps onboard new users and tell them that pasting an nsec into an app is bad and therefore is not supported... then proceed to tell them to paste it into a browser plugin or nsec.app and it's ok, what ya users gona think?

Ha! i decided to give amethyst another try (at least a year has gone by) the other day, and after deleting all but one relay it went into infinate crash loop. open, crash, open crash... maybe it is too early.
