imo it should not live there as the side menu should be for things frequently visited and edited. I believe notification settings should be in settings because ideally it’s modified only once or twice.
I’m going to add ChatGPT translation support as a third option to Damus.
Uptime and response times are not great for any of the LibreTranslate servers. Argostech works for me at the moment, though. The others don’t seem to be. They’re free servers hosted by randoms so I don’t expect much from them. Unless we want to spin up our own dedicated high performance server or find a better server, I don’t expect the situation to improve.

There’s no standard translation API that is shared across service providers. The only non-KYC option available is LibreTranslate as far as I can tell and that is configurable to any URL.

It shouldn’t be used as the singular identifier that people trust. One idea could be that it should be combined with how followed they are from your network (how you define network can be whatever you want — maybe 1-2 degrees of separation?)
Also I agree that the NIP-05 should be shown in its entirety.

Depends on which service, but generally, yes. Or ask me and I’ll see if I can add it. In my opinion, keeping it to two options seemed good enough. One is an open source option (but with poor translation quality), and the other is proprietary (but is the best translation service available).
I’ve never used Umbrel but I don’t think there’s any first-party LibreTranslate integration with Umbrel. If I understand correctly, Umbrel is just a layer running on top of Linux, so if it allows you to run Docker and run arbitrary command line commands, you could just build LibreTranslate with Docker by following the README: https://github.com/LibreTranslate/LibreTranslate
You might need an Umbrel expert to help you through some of the steps though, especially with figuring out which URL and port to use.
