TDevD and Ver are political prisoners. I've seen no evidence against either one. Even the case against SW is super weak so far, but he's at least out of the cage for now.

Feds had 10 years to investigate Ver and give notice/negotiation, but instead they pull the big guns now, out of nowhere. TDevD they just disappeared Orwellian-style without due process.

I get strong Soviet vibes from these cases. Western governments still claim to be aligned against tyranny, with a straight face? Has legally protected liberty always been an illusion, with the masks coming off now?

When your BTC is up 2000%, then the 50% inflation of food in USD terms actually doesn't seem that bad.

Reminds me of a NY Fed comment in 2011 acknowledging higher food prices but noting that inflation is offset by better value in the tech sector. Cold comfort for those who can't afford the food itself, without getting to any discretionary spending. "I can't eat an iPad" was one noted retort.

Western civilization/culture has always been multi-ethnic, and that's not the cause of major strife, just as within the Islamic world. To remain desirable, the West should welcome from anywhere anyone who can make the West a better place, as it has done for centuries.

The West rather needs a better way to get rid of the hostile invaders who want to burn the place down or fundamentally eradicate Western values. Surrendering culture in the name of inclusiveness is just a flagrant own-goal, and certain Western societies have themselves primarily to blame.

safe and effective ;)

technical difficulties...

Better yet, try getting into a conversation with a mindless CSR drone who tries to convince you that SMS 2FA is the most secure option over other standards. Also, if your phone number ever gets put into a proprietary database of VoIP numbers, that somehow makes your whole account suspicious as a fraud risk, even though it's been OK for decades before. Of course, if you ask to speak with anyone there who has a clue about IT, or report actual bugs in their web apps, then that definitely makes you look suspicious. 🙄

How do they judge where users are? Self disclosure? IP addresses? App store settings?

MT used to be a required skill just to rent a car in many places, but with the rise of EVs and other vehicles with various forms of automatic drive for no added cost to rent, MT is starting to wane even in much of Europe.

When innovation is criminalized, only criminals will innovate?

Trouble is, everything's outlawed enough that everyone is committing crimes, and the crooked cops in charge selectively enforce the unjust laws simply to suit their current whims.

The world needs to clean house and starve the beasts.

Got to wonder who believes this week's NPR commentary (totally "fact-checked") that the only way to get BTC now is to exchange fiat for it, therefore it's backed by fiat 🤔🙄

Obviously this ignores Bitcoin decentralization, verifiability, proof of work, mining, etc. But it changes the narrative from being worthless, backed by nothing/blind speculation/greater-fool theory to being a proxy for dollars.

There's probably more of an agenda toward co-opting rather than suppressing, hence ETFs, KFC, arrests, etc. I'm curious about what the corporate/deep-state overlords are actually requesting behind the scenes.

Garmin SOS fails South African biker after accident

A South African biker’s post-accident medical treatment was delayed after the SOS feature on his Garmin satellite communicator failed to evoke a timely response from emergency services.

Rapport reports that Johan Swarts only received a call from responders while in hospital on the day after he suffered a serious crash, despite paying a R574.99 (US$31) monthly subscription for the service.

He told Rapport that a Garmin product manager only responded two months after his complaints and said the SOS was only received on 18 February, a day after the accident.

So, yes testing is important as well as informing someone where you are going and when you expect to be back, but this is extremely concerning as such devices (along the expense they incur) are intended for use in the most dire emergencies. South Africa, as well as the rest of Africa, has some very isolated areas.

As of 2024 there are yet no reliable satellite services in Africa for ordinary cellphones, so the only option is a full-blown satellite phone (of course with its associated cost that many cannot afford).

Seems it did actually work if the message came through a day later. But where did it come through to a day later, and why? It's like a key piece of the puzzle is just missing here. Certainly a radio transmission is almost instantaneous, it does not transmit "slowly" over 24 hours. Seems to me, there was some human or system failure between the UK and SA? Due to the nature of this service, it warrants a really thorough investigation.

I'll have to rethink this in my shopping list. I wonder if the emergency satellite links in new smartphones fare any better in similar circumstances.
