It’s annoying how often people accuse me of it. 😂 I’ve been strongly critical of Primal on certain things, but overall it’s a fantastic app. As for their wallet in particular, the criticisms are understandable about it asking for some info. It’s not full KYC, but it may be more than some users are comfortable with. I get it. They use Strike to power the wallet, so I imagine they can’t get away with not asking for any info. Trade offs. Users can be savvy enough to navigate this, and if it’s still too much then Primal gives the option to use any external NWC wallet in place of their wallet service. To see prominent nostr devs and users disparaging one of the most successful nostr products/services so far is sad to see. I believe it comes from a place of jealous/envy on their part. Maybe not. Either way, they should take a step back and see the bigger picture.

There are trade offs with every decision made. Not every trade off is a moral one, despite what some would have you believe.
Primal is a great nostr app. If you have a hard time acknowledging this, then you need to look inward. No, I’m not paid to say this.

Why do I keep getting asked this about Primal. No one ever asks me this when I post in support of Nostur. No one ever asked me this when I used to support Damus. Can you idiots get it into your head that Primal is a good product/service and myself, and many others, enjoy using it for good reasons? No, I don’t work for them. I support them because I like what they make. There’s a lesson to be learned there for all you devs out there.
The best noob-friendly app/service I’ve found for easy conversion between Bitcoin and Fiat is Strike. You get a Lightning address with your account, and you can use that to receive zaps from nostr. In your Strike account you can choose to receive as bitcoin (and sell or withdraw later) or auto convert to fiat. Full KYC of course since it’s a regulated money service. For anything not KYC you’re gonna need that 3 hour course. 😂
