They "manipulate" it too. An image with 1200px x 1200px will not be visible in full size on your feed. Anyway, if you prefer big tech mapping your social circle, you could just keep clicking on external links with tracking links, while others would voluntarily opt out. Up to you.

I really can't understand the view that insists that all users of Bitcoin must bow down to and obey the dictates of the Bitcoin Core developers. That they somehow have this secret knowledge that us plebs can't possibly understand.

It flies entirely in the face of the cypherpunk ethos and the principles of decentralization.

JB's argument is that Bitcoin Core is "meritocratic" - that's complete bullshit. They shut down ideas they don't like and do the things they're paid to do. Meritocracy is multiple implementations competing with each other in the battlefield of ideas.

Knots is gaining ground on that one.

He's a digital plumber, which is great. But to believe that you can dictate to the world how to use a toilet just because you are the plumber shows that he is losing it. I guess the whole AI thing is taking a big toll on people like him whose whole identity is defined by being able to be a plumber. So now that this skill is becoming accessible to everyone, he freaks out. Sad to see.

Bitcoin's most important layer is layer 0 which is the humans who use it / advocate for it. Bitcoin is a tool for liberation but like a broom it doesn't fix anything by itself. It's the people who use it.

damus android nodes have the ability to talk to each other damus android nodes without a relay via the local network (multicast).

you can test this today buy having multiple android nodes and/or notedeck desktop nodes without internet access. it will still work, you will see people posting on the wifi.

in not too long your damus nodes will even negentropy-sync with each other, so even if they are online at different times, you will be able to see notes you've missed.

once we add a DM notedeck app this will even be more powerful. local, encrypted DMs without even needing to go to the internet.

Liberty is not an American idea. Neither is it Christian or Western. It can be understood and embraced by any reasoning individual.

I can comfortably embrace my own religion and culture while being a libertarian. Because unlike socialism or nationalism, libertarianism is not an ideology that requires the creation of an ideal 'libertarian man'. It's just a legal theory about where violence is appropriate and not appropriate in social relations.

It doesn't require the spread of a state's 'soft power' or 'hard power'. It doesn't require a power vacuum to be filled by an entity that contradicts its principles. It does not require bombing millions of innocent civilians.

Therapy is a scam. You won't fix anything by talking about your superficial problems for hours, weeks, or years. They are just the symptoms. The root issue is mostly in the past, some emotion that you have to access and release. Find the right person to guide you through it and you'll heal instantly.

With google getting ready to cripple android, and appple already being locked down, we need an alternative.

The pinephone was a decent attempt at a Linux phone, and it does (sort of) work, though its very fiddly. There is a decent amount of apps and it does make and receive calls and texts.

They released a pinephone pro as well (which I bought) but it was barely better than the original (which is underpowered to be honest) and not great build quality.

However, it made enough progress to show that a Linux phone, with enough development, is feasible.

With more modern hardware and a few more developers thrown at it (pine64 didn't do any development at all, they just released the phone and left the rest to the community. I think it has potential.

Maybe soon we can vibe code a whole OS? 🤔

Yes, you can’t force delete from other people’s devices. It’s just a friendly note to save storage space and long term feed estate. There’s so much stuff on Nostr that it’s useful to drop non-important content.

The thing is once you implement in a client the option to choose delete after xyz. People will believe it's gone for real + unfortunately in many people it creates bad incentives to act like maniacs.
