Since October 2024, the EU prohibits the use of privacy coins. No surprise there, the way the EU and everything else is going.

I could easily see them make all crypto illegal and only allow cbdc's. They could also make everything illegal that's censorship resistant like Nostr and other Decentralized platforms. They could force KYC to access the internet at all.

How would freedom tech still be of use to us here without breaking tyrannical laws and risk getting locked up.

Just curious, since I'm relatively new to it all and I just want to understand everything better.

We used to have banking privacy in Austria not too long ago, the gov had no right to see what's going on in your account. Of course if they labeled it an investigation suspecting tax fraud, they could easily get a warrant, but at least it wasn't a general surveillance like now.

Yea, it's the easiest way i can see sharing or accessing from external network without having users connect via wireguard

I would ditch plex in an instant if users could create a nostr account on the fly and request access to my server then connect to jellyfin without having to type in the url or further authenticate since theyre already siging with thwir nsec. Id also give access to something like jellyseerr so i can add requested content.

But i dont want to set this (user accounts, expose jellyfin, etc) all up manually. Ugh this might be a project worth looking into while i'm off from work.

One thing worth understanding is that it isn’t the old fashion concept of “farm subsidies” that make the system so unfair- although the new FARM act certain just sends money to land owners for no reason other than they own land…

The bigger issue is subsidized crop insurance. If you can show what your average farm yielded when planting the core commodity crops (corn, soy, wheat, cotton, rice) over 5 years you can get insurance subsidized by the government that makes it so basically you CANT lose unless you really fuck up.

The insurance also makes it very risky for farmers to try different crops or different styles of growing because you NEED that average crop yield to stay high. If you miss a year, you may not be able to get subsidized insurance the next year and that makes you vulnerable to loosing.

If on average we can make 50 percent on Bitcoin, is it best to put our leftover money into Bitcoin and make lump sum payments off the mortgage each year or so, or pay as much off the mortgage weekly as possible?

I’m surprised by the amount of ai luddite energy on here, it’s bizarre. Almost every reply to my ai posts is dismissive like a boomer saying bitcoin is going to crash: “the ai is lying to you bro, you’re so naive”.

People who say this aren’t paying attention to the rapidly increasing capabilities of these system. If hallucinations are the main critique, then humans are already much worse at this, and ai systems are only getting better. They are becoming less hallucinogenic and less sycophantic as they get larger and more fine tuned.

I believe advanced ai is one of the most important inventions humanity will ever create, even more so than bitcoin. Maybe the ego can’t take the idea that there could be other systems in this world that could be smarter than us.

I highly doubt this makes any financial sense.

The marginal cost to kill or seriously wound a Russian is probably something like $50k; the _entire war_ has only cost ~$250k per Russian casualty in direct military spending, and that includes lots of pricey defensive spending like anti-air defense. Ukraine has constantly been short on things like drones and ammo that could easily be purchased if only more funds were available.

I _highly_ doubt the French government is spending less than $50k per Russian. There's a ton of work that needs to be done to vet defecting Russian soldiers given the high chance they're infiltrators, and every failure is incredibly costly. That's on top of ordinary refugee expenses like welfare and other social support, which cost thousands per year.

Just spend the money on weapons and focus on killing Russians efficiently. The ones who are deserting were probably not effective soldiers anyway.

I view this as a poison/sickness in the system. A perversion, so to speak. At current transaction fees (because of ordinals and subsequently BRCs) it's already too expensive for many use cases and even getting btc on and off the LN will be an issue moving forward. A street vendor in Guatemala (for example) is not going to use bitcoin if the cost of the transaction is more than the cost of what they are selling.

Even Satoshi recognized this problem way back when bitDNS tried to incorporate Domain Name services into Bitcoin
