Hi. I'm new to nostr. I dont really like bitcoin, or encryption or whatever, but I got mad at BlueSky for political reasons and I'm looking for a new home.
P.s ... All I see are bitcoin posts, surfers and a few pics of naked dudes with their butts in the air on sunny days. Is that normal here?

There is a lot of bitcoin on Nostr but there’s also some other really cool stuff like pottery, leather works, cooking, food products, rug makers, artists, homesteaders, permaculture, and much much more. Just May take some time to find and follow people that share your interests and passions. definitely illegal
No protection for anything. You can post anything. Individuals may block you if they don't like what you say. There's no central servers or admins that can block, ban or censor you.
There are groups you can join. If you're interested in movies, Ford V8 engines or land rights for gay whales, you'll find like minded people.
One problem, or benefit, depending on your view, is there's no algorithm to push things to you. You have to explore and discover shit for yourself.
Nostr requires more effort by you to find shit you're interested in than other social media. But, it's worth the effort.

Maybe, maybe not lol...the good thing is you can create your own mute lists and curate your follow list to only see stuff you want. Mute users and keywords you don't care about and you're good to go.

Yes its a very bitcoin centric platform which initially put me off to. Make sure your on relays like mostr.pub to also bridge in non nostr content. That helps a lot when you then search for content you like.
I don't know what app you picked but global timelines always suck on any app. Use aggregation feeds and search instead. Follow people who arent coiners and then you can enjoy it more.

This note made me think about why bitcoin is important to me and if it is getting a bit too one sided... spoiler: I am truly happy I found bitcoin... let me explain why, it is not about the money or getting rich.
Learned from bitcoin from a friend, who was mining. So, I jumped in with him, as a developer, my skills where a good addition. He just went mining because of the financials back then. We had a great time and made some (lunch) money with it. When at home mining got less and less profitable we called it a day... he started trading and I went on with life.
Still, after a year or so, bitcoin popped back up on my radar by chance and started to read up on what it actually was and solved. It blew my mind! It made me rethink all I knew and learned about miney and financials.
But it did not stop there, once I figured out what effect fiat has on all other things... food, media, education, politics, war and all other things it touches... I felt unrooted. It took me quite a while to get a new footing. Because of this I made a lot of changes in my life. No tv, no "news" websites, started to make my own bread, healthy food, more independence around the house (garden, firewood, small mortgage and shrinking, etc). Reading a lot more books now... it got me to a point in life where I have a beautiful family, crazy dog and created my oen company that is fully automated. It gives me 100% control over my time, creating the way to do whatever I want, whenever I want it.
To me, this is true freedom, call it true wealth. Forever greatful 🫶
