Imagine you could tell your social media client in human language what kind of "algorithm" it should use to compose and rank your feed and decide what to show you and in which order.

"Show me mainly posts about Bitcoin and Art, the more technical the better. Hide posts about politics. I'm not interested in health tips or tradwife lifestyle content. Do not show me any pics of food but you can show me pics of feet. I like cats more than dogs."

Feels like this would be the ultimate user control.

In a sense this is what TikTok is. But it’s promoted based on user interactions with content.

*prompted, not “promoted”

This is like every time autocorrect changes “probably” to “provably” as if I’m just going around using that word in sentences every day.

Love it! Highlights the opportunity decentralization holds to better serve the end-user 🔥 No way a centralized platform would give up the opportunity to steal your attention with algo-curated ads

It’s coming. Now for those trying to control us through social media algorithms the question becomes, “How do we get to them early enough to be on their minds when they go to control their algos for the first time?”

Now that we're all vibing, it's basically one Demo Day away. You have until Friday guys. #SovEng

I vibed so much my code base now consists of 25 files and the AI can't do shit anymore without breaking something else.

I wasn't too far off. We've basically seen the inklings of that today. 👀

you would have loved today's demo day brother, seriously, was fucking 🔥 we're going to make some videos next week

Yea

I don't want to tell my client the algorithm. I want to figure it out on its own, but keep the data on my devices.

When it derails, I want to tell it to ignore some kind of content and that's it.

Less interaction is better, imo.

Just let me feed the interaction data from my client to a local recommendation engine, I guess.

If I knew one thing about how AI works this is what I would be working on.

A way to easily switch between preset algorithms based on mood. 🤔

“Mood ring” algorithm? Using some type of technology, you press your thumb on the screen, it reads your temperature, determines your mood, and curates a feed based on your mood. Just thinking out loud. nostr:nprofile1qqs9pk20ctv9srrg9vr354p03v0rrgsqkpggh2u45va77zz4mu5p6ccpzemhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejz7qghwaehxw309aex2mrp0yhrq7rrdpshgtnrdakj7h9ldnm

Saw some s spam among your replies here. Would be nice option to only see up to a few follower depths in replies.

Try a Web of Trust relay, they suck right now at this early stage but they're trying to do what you want

all very doable

This would be great for letting AI control you, actually

GM! 🌅☕️🍳 Building a solid timeline requires extensive dedication/hard work. Following people who have said GM! can be a good start. Everyone is capable of expressing some good ideas, but few actually follow through. Oh yes, algorithms may not help with this task.

Awesome idea. We need a LLMs training on NIPs

calle is anti tradwife and pro feet

I agree with this post except I like dogs as well as cats. Feet are not special or interesting but necessary.

#YESTR

This would be nice. Calle doesn’t like food.

I like it!

This would be cool but wouldn’t it also give our human experience a sense of close mindedness. We evolve by coming into contact with many different opinions, views, and perspectives. Obviously curate it in a fashion where we get what we like in life but have a small margin (window) that opens us up to other algorithms. Maybe a new hobby would unfold from this.

Just my thoughts

Tradwife is superwife.

I build something similar for a log/audit system unrelated to nostr. but you could probably apply the same high level design here.

1. use an llm generate a query in the desired query language. my prompt included the query language grammar spec, about 20 common query examples, and a list of mistakes not to make, along with the natural language input

2. parse the query to assert it is valid. if so, send query to api (or relay here)

3. in my case I also wanted yo summarize the list of events in human language. so another llm request with another prompt along side the event response.

Most people do not want to spend time and effort curating their own feeds. In general, people are lazy and prefer to be spoon-fed algorithmic content. These observations are quite apparent.

However, what if building your own algorithm was as simple as just telling your social app what you want to see?

Now that's a lightbulb moment. 👀

Where would this filtering take place on your client or on the relays?

Neither. It would put an AI powered DVM between the relays and your client, so the DVM would ask for notes from your specified relays (I hope) and then filter them based on what you requested before passing them along to your client to be displayed to you.

Ah brilliant so it is a layer in between your client and the relays.

Interesting

"Hide posts about Egypt or pyramids."

Or a private AI box that sets your whole internet experience for you this way, not just social media.

Dear Algorithm in the Cloud,

Leave out the feet pics.

We like Dogs more than Cats.

Only show me Positive News about Bitcoin taking over the Universe.

Include posts with 80's MTV videos...

This seems so doable.

You subscribe to a custom list / account created for you.

You bark commands to that account and it reposts things found on the nostr stream based on your criteria.

Dear Grok, write the code for above.

🎯

I'm pro no algorithm. Got not interested in social media when it wasn't just people I follow in order. I only view my subscription tab on YouTube, maybe I'm the weird one.

i like this. good idea.

This is exactly what social media should have been from the start—true user sovereignty over content discovery. Instead of opaque, manipulative algorithms optimizing for engagement at any cost, we’d have feeds tailored to our actual interests. The real question is: who will build this first, and will they resist the temptation to introduce hidden biases over time? Hi calle 🤝 nice to meet you happy sunday

you can ask to Leo 😅 (Brave) AI🧞

True Bluesky

Like “Custom feeds” in Bluesky

And LLM behind the filter should run on the device.

That way everyone is in control if their data.

That way we can bring it to Nostr.

"show me the algorithm that nostr:nprofile1qyxhwumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmvqyehwumn8ghj7mnhvvh8qunfd4skctnwv46z7ctewe4xcetfd3khsvrpdsmk5vnsw96rydr3v4jrz73hvyu8xqpqsg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q8dzj6n or nostr:nprofile1qyx8wumn8ghj7cnjvghxjmcpz4mhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejqqg90weelkzw4nr4kxfev6lnvr5tpgqcumlqgf3rq7h25n03nthrkxqpllvyn , etc sees"

would be a cool feature

You can login with their npub and see it for yourself

This would work

It seems to me elfeed feedreader on #emacs :)

Nostr prompt bar

Who will do this first?

Grok on Twitter or nostr:nprofile1qqsw9n8heusyq0el9f99tveg7r0rhcu9tznatuekxt764m78ymqu36cpzdmhxue69uhhwmm59e6hg7r09ehkuef0qyw8wumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnzd96xxmmfdecxzunt9e3k7mf0unjcp7 on Nostr?

I give utxo less than 3 months

He already has algorithmic relay and a web interface for tuning, just needs to connect AI to handle the language element

Hi calle 🤟🏴‍☠️😉 This concept represents a significant shift in how social media platforms could approach user engagement and content curation. Essentially, it’s about giving the user full control over what they see and how they interact with the platform. Here’s why it’s revolutionary:

1. Total Customization: By giving users a direct way to dictate the kind of content they wish to see, you’re moving away from the one-size-fits-all algorithm approach used by platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Instead, users can fine-tune their experience to meet their specific interests. It’s the next step in personalization where users don’t just passively consume content; they actively shape their feed in a way that suits them.

2. Increased Engagement: When users have more control over what they see, they are more likely to engage with content that they find valuable. This could result in more meaningful interactions, as people can get exactly what they want without sifting through irrelevant posts.

3. Transparency & Trust: Right now, algorithms are often opaque, with platforms keeping their ranking criteria hidden from users. If users could customize how their feeds are ranked and organized, it would increase transparency, allowing them to understand exactly how content is being curated. It would build trust between users and platforms, as people could see that their preferences are being respected and actively used to shape their experiences.

4. Eliminating Filter Bubbles: While customization could deepen interests, it could also run the risk of creating echo chambers or “filter bubbles.” However, the opportunity here is to let users decide what content they are interested in, while offering more granular control to avoid getting trapped in a single narrative. Features like “topic breaks” or suggesting opposing viewpoints based on preferences might help mitigate this.

5. Data Privacy & Autonomy: Giving users more control over their feed would align with the increasing demand for privacy and autonomy online. If the user is the one directly influencing the algorithm, it reduces the need for platforms to rely on opaque data mining techniques and gives people greater control over their online experience.

6. The Ethical Angle: Currently, platforms are incentivized to prioritize engagement over user well-being, often leading to sensational content that can stoke division and outrage. A system where users explicitly request the content they want would mitigate this incentive and allow social media platforms to offer a more thoughtful, user-driven experience.

7. Implementation Challenges: This level of personalization would require more sophisticated algorithms capable of processing and understanding very detailed user preferences. It would also challenge platforms to reconsider their business models and engagement metrics since they would no longer be able to rely on promoting whatever maximizes attention.

In conclusion, this is the vision of an ideal, user-centered platform that empowers people to curate their experiences and regain control over the overwhelming flood of content. It would be a massive departure from current trends, but one that could radically change how we experience the internet, making it a more personalized, enjoyable, and meaningful space.

this is a good bot. too wordy tho
