I really don't understand why people want the nostrich to die.

for something as young as nostr, are we so impatient to already start junking our history?

I'd argue nostr doesn't need a logo for the protocol. there is no logo for nostr just like there is no logo for SMTP, TCP/IP, DNS, and the list of protocols goes on.

But we do need something to rally around. It is the nature of humans when they form connections. We rally around the ostrich.

The ostrich has become a mascot. Early nostr adopters first developed nostr as a social media alternative to the little blue bird. To encapsulate the desires to be better, faster, stronger, the community went with the biggest bird, the ostrich.

coincidentally, the ostrich has many letters in common with nostr which is, in my opinion, serendipity.

These new designs that want to be "the logo" for nostr that don't pay at least a little homage to the ostrich are seriously missing out on a piece of culture that shaped the beginning of nostr. It's almost insulting when they say "adopt this new logo because its better because it doesnt have an ostrich."

I will be very sad for the day that the ostrich disappears from the collective mind as the symbol for nostr because we will have lost a part of our history.

I don't like it. it's cartoony and doesn't seem to take itself seriously.

I mean, we don't really take ourselves seriously *gestures towards all the memes* but there is gravity in what we're trying to grow here.

as I've heard it the ostrich was used because it is the biggest bird. and also because it has -ostr in the name.

I agree that nostr will be bigger and more things than the other little blue bird app will ever be but there's a charm in having a collective history.

I learned that serrated knives have handedness so I tried using my right hand (my off hand) to use the bread knife today and it was so much easier.

bread looks good today 🤤 despite my wonky slicing #breadstr

good morning 🌞 the yarn I ordered for the next batch of hats is on its way! I'm really excited to make more, especially the nostr version. I designed it way back in December but couldn't afford to buy enough yarn at a time to make all the designs.

With nostr and lightning, I was able to turn my work into value without fuss by selling directly to whoever wanted the hats. And that in turn helps to grow my little venture for the next batch.

I'm starting the day with full of gratitude this morning 💜

came here to say the same. it is more likely that we'll be using milli, centi and the like as opposed to half and quarter. it's a imperial vs metric mindset.

future units aren't likely to be in imperial since those measurements have root in physical space where as metric is more abstract.

Holy f*nostr:npub1kqwufyu7qmfchxewuuj6htqf65vhas2w55dclsjakek4qhtfd6as7sqcfn - I did a Thing!

I inherited a part ball of variegated yarn - which I dislike using because I feel it's disorganized, chaotic and messy looking. But I've seen this thing done online and decided to spend a day screwing around and tried it. It bloody worked. (Eventually) I'm amazed. A combination of programming and sorcery.

woohoo planned pooling! I've done a couple pieces with it and it never ceases to amaze.

if designing something for fun and casual, then log in.

if something technical and security-ish, then sign in.

think of logging in like stamping a time card at machine and signing in like filling out a line on a log book at the guard house. one is more involved than the other.
