Damn, is it really that simple?

Agreed. GDP is a totally fake number. A bunch of guys mining BTC are measure the same as government paying people to dig holes and fill them again so long as the fiat amount of each is the same.

Yes I do. If I remember correctly, it was under government pressure then too. This is the reason Bitcoin is such a big deal: satoshi is a nobody that, therefore, cannot be dragged before some government arm to be pressured into stuff.

You sure this is Elon’s explicit choice? I know the EU has been trying to force his hand to shut down certain channels. This could be similar. Not that I trust the man 100%, but he did remove a LARGE amount of old Twitter’s censorship when he stepped in.

Nostr still has him beat because censorship is basically impossible here. But to give credit where credit is due…

The “get alby” account said “free” at least twice to me in other responses. However, your answer clarifies a bit… correct me if my analogy is wrong: but it sounds like what you’re describing is like a bank account with a minimum balance. Like, it’s my sats, but I need a minimum balance for the bank to hold it open?

My understanding was it was me “buying” a channel and, therefore, that the sats (or fiat) were GONE once I paid it. Then, because of the “3 months” bit under there, it looked like renting/tax.

If it is more like “this is a minimum balance that will be checked every 3 months”, that changes my understanding dramatically.

Good morning #nostr ! Still figuring out this ecosystem. How’s everyone doing?

I’m trying to navigate the decentralized nature of this ecosystem here and I have been very frustrated today trying to figure out some things. Maybe some of you more experienced people can help.

I know that NWC is a protocol that exists. But everything I find about it seems to try to force me through alby and only alby. I’m trying to put through podcasts, music, and the like, but the individual zaps for each platform don’t connect without NWC. Apps like blue wallet say that they support it, but then I can’t figure out where to find or generate the NWC to pull my sats together. I’m very lost.

For context, iOS phone, windows computer. Yes, I’ve flipped between the two.

Childcare sexual abuse is mostly committed by men. Failing to recognise that puts children at risk

https://theconversation.com/childcare-sexual-abuse-is-mostly-committed-by-men-failing-to-recognise-that-puts-children-at-risk-260292

"Australians are reeling from the news that Victorian childcare worker Joshua Dale Brown has been charged with more than 70 offences against children, including rape.

As 1,200 children await results for sexually transmitted infections, a horror no parent should ever face, media commentary has begun to focus on how this case might have implications for male childcare workers.

Early childhood education is a heavily female-dominated field, and past inquiries into child sexual abuse by male educators have found that, in efforts to avoid appearing discriminatory, male workers are often subject to less scrutiny. This dynamic is compounded by efforts for gender balance in childcare, particularly for the perceived benefits of male role models.

Ironically, this fear of seeming biased can create the very conditions that offenders exploit – grooming colleagues, parents and children to commit abuse while hidden in plain sight.

While it is an uncomfortable fact to confront, research shows men with a sexual interest in children are disproportionately more likely to work with children, including in early education and care. Recent data show that one in 20 men in the Australian community are motivated offenders (individuals who reported both sexual interest in and offending against children). However, they are almost three times more likely to work with children compared to other men.

Unfortunately, systematic data on child sexual abuse in childcare settings are limited. However, existing findings align with the only comprehensive study conducted on this issue, which followed the highly publicised McMartin Preschool trial in the United States.

This study examined cases from 1983 to 1985, and identified 270 daycare centres where 1,639 children were found to have experienced substantiated sexual abuse. Although men made up only about 5% of childcare staff, they were responsible for 60% of the offences. The abuse was often severe, with 93% of victims subjected to some form of penetrative sexual violence.

Those who deliberately pursue employment with children to abuse them are often referred to as “professional perpetrators”. These individuals typically have multiple victims and pose a high risk of repeated harm.

In our current research on serial child sex offenders in childcare settings in Australia and internationally, we identified six cases involving between seven and 87 confirmed victims under the age of five. Five of the offenders were male and one was female. Together, they sexually abused at least 245 children.

There were striking similarities across these cases. Offenders primarily targeted pre-verbal children, evaded detection for long periods, and were only exposed through external investigations, most often related to the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material.

Much like the details emerging from the case of Joshua Dale Brown in Victoria, none of these offenders was uncovered through internal safeguarding systems.

As is also alleged in the case of Brown, the perpetrators in our case studies were not isolated offenders. They were operating within online communities that normalise and reinforce abusive behaviour and the sharing of child sex abuse material of children who were in their care.

If, as some suggest, male workers are subject to close and sometimes unfair scrutiny, these cases highlight a troubling contradiction. Despite this purported scrutiny, child sexual abuse by male staff can and does occur over extended periods without detection in childcare settings. In fact, evidence from another case suggests staff are often hesitant to raise concerns about male colleagues for fear of being perceived as discriminatory.

It is important to highlight that although women comprise a small minority of child sexual abuse offenders, the reluctance to view women, particularly mothers, as potential perpetrators can also contribute to such abuse going undetected.

There also needs to be greater awareness of how these offenders infiltrate and groom institutions. In the case studies we analysed, offenders were seen as kind and competent workers. They were often friendly with management or held senior positions themselves, and would socialise outside of work with families whose children they cared for. Even when whistleblowers raised an alarm about the offenders, these concerns were often dismissed, with some offenders even being promoted."

2) name the percentage of males working in childcare

It’s mostly women. This is nonsense.

Yep. I’ve seen this. I’ve also been in 3 out of the 4 countries shown and can personally attest.

To be fair, no one wants to be shouting into an empty room. I use both personally. But I do politics/debate in both, but only post my creative work like my music here.

I don’t think “too often” is a problem unless the content suffers for it. This meme IS disgusting, but it’s for good reason. The thing it is DESCRIBING is disgusting. Any truth to power in that regard will be disgusting for that reason. Many of his memes fit this mold in my opinion: uncomfortable truths exposing sugar coated lies tend to promote discomfort.

Reminds me of a criticism of an essay I wrote in HS where I got told I was using circular logic… the essay was a takedown of a specific circular argument. Apparently, I wasn’t allowed to walk the reader through the circular argument without being accused of making it myself.

I need to do this when and if ever I leave my current job. 😂

If Galt’s Gulch were actually possible, I’d agree with you. But it isn’t anymore. Eventually these NY state regards will own even more of the senate/courts/etc. Just because things haven’t been getting better doesn’t mean they cannot get worse. No matter where you are or how far away from civilization you are, they will eventually trail of tears or ruby ridge you and your family in pursuit of their impossible utopia. Every inch of ceded ground is just one more stone closer to your or my home that is now turned over… so they move on to the next one in their never-ending quest for power and virtue signaling.

Big Brother Watch has repeatedly warned that the UK is quietly creeping into a surveillance state. Live facial recognition is being deployed across streets, train stations, shopping centres and even at public protests. But this technology is not just targeting criminals. It is scanning millions of innocent people without their knowledge or consent.

False alarms with real consequences

Studies show that the vast majority of facial recognition matches are false. According to Big Brother Watch, in 80 deployments across the UK, 89.7% of alerts were false positives. In London alone, 150 out of 173 matches by the Metropolitan Police were incorrect, resulting in an error rate of nearly 87%. In some cases, people were stopped, searched or fingerprinted as a result.

These mistakes are not harmless. They are invasive, humiliating and difficult to challenge.

https://bigbrotherwatch.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Biometric-Britain.pdf

It is all connected

Facial images from passports, CCTV, phones and even social media are increasingly fed into large government and private databases. Big Brother Watch has raised concerns that a digital pound or central bank digital currency would allow the state to track every payment in real time. Combined with facial recognition and phone surveillance, this creates a fullmap of your movements, your spending and your associations.

Your phone is not private

Every step we take with a smartphone in our pocket feeds data to corporations and authorities. Location, biometrics, browsing history and more. If that is tied to payment systems and real time identity scanning, we move closer to a system where everything we do can be watched, recorded and judged.

Know Your Customer (KYC) rules are already mandating identity checks for basic services. This is not theoretical. It is happening now.

Where does this lead?

The future we are heading toward is one of forced compliance. A world in which you are monitored constantly. In which you are guilty until proven innocent. In which dissent is quietly suppressed by the knowledge that you are being watched.

We are at a turning point

If we do not push back, we risk building a society where privacy is gone, autonomy is restricted, and control is centralised in the name of convenience and safety. This goes far beyond retail surveillance. It marks the steady build up of a digital infrastructure designed for monitoring and control.

It's 1984

George Orwell warned of a future where every move was watched, every word monitored, and every thought shaped by fear. But even he did not imagine a world where your money could be used to control you.

With facial recognition and CBDCs combined, we are building something even more invasive than Orwell foresaw, a system where surveillance is not just constant but transactional, embedded into the very fabric of daily life.

When every face is scanned, every step tracked, and every payment recorded, we are not living freely. We are living under watch.

Thank you to Big Brother Watch for continuing to shine a light on these issues and holding power to account.

This is why mining and labor regulations are so disastrous. China is the only technologically developed country that cares so little for its environment that it is okay with strip mining for rare earth metals necessary for computer chips. This gives them and Taiwan a monopoly on the chip market that they shouldn’t have, which they then sell back to the western countries too NIMBY to make their own. Then, only the select companies with the CCP connections get to make any of the major devices that we end users hold in our homes. Because of the oligopoly of these tech companies, our governments then have a small list to coerce or bribe to act as their defacto surveillance apparatus.

This won’t change until regulations are removed such that normal people (or, at least, upper middle class) can source their tech, from the ground up, domestically, shattering the monopoly. In the same way and for the same reasons as 3D printed or home CNC firearms may eventually eliminate 2A infringements (smokeless powder is a whole other challenge though).

Not when fiat controlled governments can hold the businesses themselves ransom. If a government can revoke a license or arrest the owner, it doesn’t matter if the currency is decentralized. Bitcoin is already being used, even with lots of government forced limitations, across the world. It is clearly not a technological problem.

90% of taxes need to go. Our government was funded almost exclusively by tariffs in its beginning. I only mentioned capitol gains because of the context of the original post.

No. But “taxes as payment for services rendered” is at least fair when/if done correctly. Double-dipping payments just to punish someone for escaping fiat is an insult to the injury of unjust taxes.
