Listening to your podcast with fitajaf made me think about how pear compares to nostr. I am sure they are different things

But… nostr:npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev did a podcast with the pear team few weeks ago and they were making a lot of comparisons of nostr and pear… I know Guy uses Keet a lot

Is it true that nostr and pear are a new decentralized internet attempt?

I'd say it's a continuation of the same project that's been going for years. Nostr built on scuttlebutt, pear is building on DHTs and other related technologies.

It was called Dat Protocol once, then they rebranded. Paul Frazee tried building a decentralized social network called CTZN using it but don't think that took off. Paul has also heavily contributed to the SSB ecosystem, and now works at Bluesky if I am not wrong

The better thing to do would be to use a simpler protocol for private sharing of files etc (like the Signal protocol) and announce your preferred servers using nostr. Kinda like how live streams, audio spaces, and git stuff work over nostr

The same Dat that Max Ogden started? I always liked that guy.

Has anyone looked into pear much? Curious about opinions. I'm skimming the docs and getting the same vibe I got from previous P2P things. It's all either made up or I'm too dumb to understand it. I would like to see some kind of network topology diagram or explanation.

So does Coracle, if you can find the note

The problem with this is that it changes the meaning of a kind 1 note. Users on clients that don't support this (all of them other than Amethyst) will always see the original note, leading to multiple versions existing *simultaneously*. Edit is a pandora's box.

New episode of TGFN is out, in which fiatjaf shares his opinions. Content warning: we mostly talk about Antennapod.

No, it was amazing, best episode yet

Re-volt is a great kid-friendly racing game: https://www.gog.com/en/game/revolt

After than, I'm going to try 0AD out with my oldest

Good morning, I bought a lot of 5 windows computers for $500, and now I'm buying games on GOG to play with my kids. Been looking forward to this for a long time.

28 Days Later is one of my favorites. Maybe not sci-fi exactly, but gritty and very good.

Which is totally possible too. I'm not a native dev so my opinion doesn't really count, but as a user I can't imagine one round trip being a deal breaker when most consumer native apps are tethered to the cloud on a pretty short leash.

NIP 46 will work fine for native apps. Parallel or bulk requests can be added, and if signers can act as relay proxies that would reduce the round trips as well, since they could sign/encrypt things on the way out.

I like the idea of nested communities. I do think the risk with trusting clients to do moderation unilaterally is that the client will also select relays, which may be authenticated. Keeping the common pattern of clients being content-agnostic and allowing users to bring their own relays seems better to me.

😩 I literally double checked the correct domain before I posted this

That's exactly what stay humble means

My Zambia friend is asking for wallet recommendations. shpuld I tell him phoenix? I want to make sure it works well on cheap phones with poor internet.

Enjoying my last few minutes of Sunday by reading Neal Stephenson's REAMDE. What are your goals for this week? I need to:

- Make some how to videos for using Coracle instances

- Finish a refactor of my relay selection code

- Fix lots of bugs

- Write some blog posts

- Continue redesigning Coracle's website

- Interview Adam Curry

Also, I discovered Matt Rose's youtube channel this morning and have been watching it off and on all day. Just my kind of humor. Highly recommend.

Pura Vida Nostr, see you tomorrow.

SHOUT OUT to nostr:nprofile1qy08wumn8ghj7mn0wd68yttsw43zuam9d3kx7unyv4ezumn9wshsz9thwden5te0dehhxarj9ehhsarj9ejx2a30qy88wumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv9uqzqp5fmavy02xnxa5f9k3fvgkhcr7urmcetr6tc3r3myykd2s7e20jfgn7gs for responding to this #asknostr appeal. Thanks, Friend!πŸ™πŸ»πŸ«‚πŸ˜€

I was really floundering on this... And I have a couple of comments to share for whomever may care to listen.

I have been wanting for some time to have secure access to a web-based client so that I can use a full-sized keyboard for typing/data entry. I've hesitated due to not having an "nsec bunker" setup.

I've worked with computers most of my life; I am not naive and not a novice. Nevertheless, nostr is still very much the wild, wild west! There is a DESPERATE need for better documentation, especially documenting the fundamental "how-tos" of getting things like bunkers set up, securing keys, and coordinating things.

Along with that, any nostr tools that can be devised to facilitate these basic operations, including holding users hands through all the setup and establishing of the basics are needed.

I am a (relative) nobody, but even so, in the course of my lifetime, I've established relationships with a few "influencers" whose presence and activity here on nostr might seriously help grow the user base. However, they have been resistant to even trying (in some cases) and (in other cases) have not been active due to the discouragement with how difficult things still are for "the average man."

Please don't get me wrong; I have tremendous admiration and appreciation for all the hard work the devs have done and are continuing to do; but (as I perceive the problem) by and large, the devs are "just TOO CLOSE to things" and (because they already completely understand and know how things work) they have HUGE blind spots when it comes to onboarding normies.

And so, to all my GREATLY APPRECIATED devs: PLEASE take one more hard look at your apps, and especially at EMBEDDED documentation... all the user prompts, all the details and steps of getting "the man in the street" to reach the point where he/she is actually "up and running" with:

* Keypair

* ALL the important PROFILE fields

* A Lightning (or Cashu? or Nuts?) wallet for ZAPPING both in and out

* An appropriate BUNKER for their nsec

* Adequate hand-holding to pull them through ALL of the above

* A VISION for how this will lead to them NEVER AGAIN having to divulge their email address, personal information, etc.

I may have missed something important? Please feel free to expand in comments below.

If YOU have READ THIS FAR; Thank you for listening; please pass this along to your favorite dev(s) in case I've missed someone; and very seriously, THANK YOU, all you cool devs for all your hard work, and please don't take this as a criticism... YOU ARE APPRECIATED!

Loving #coracle.

Just a note and a question:

Note: Links I post from #TiddlyWiki / #Tiddlyhost with the "#" character are cut back to the main URL.

Question: Is there a difference in the timeline that shows only coracle. social and coracle.social/notes?

Thanks!

That's a bug β€” at some point I have to re-do a lot of the url handling logic. For now, I've patched this particular thing, thanks for letting me know!

Discovered in the middle of the night there are 4+ skunks living under the house. Me RN:

Why are you awake?! I have a good excuse, there is a skunk under my house and I'm going to try and kill it.
