There is no shortage of ideas to try and there’s a surprising history of stuff that has worked in the absence of direct political control. Some really interesting systems popped up in the Wild West (book recommendation: The Not so Wild, Wild West). Taxation is essentially both the laziest and most immoral way to sustain anything.

I would suspect you have little to no actual experience with our court system. I have to disagree vehemently. Not to mention that even with the horrific problems with *tech literacy* of those with authority, just the general and insane levels of corruption and politicization of our court system make the already unreliable tech situation often meaningless. And aside from even all of that, there remains the deep and serious problem of illegality and morality often diverging massively from each other.

In other words there are multiple layers of problems, corruption, and stupidity that permeate the entire “justice system” even after we just ignore the problem with the law itself very often being a miserable insult to the concepts of “fair” or “just.”

This is how I analogies the possibility of an advanced civilization in history being destroyed and society essentially having to “reset.” The scary thing, is that the disaster might not have to be totally in order for it to still do multiples of damage in the fall out. Consider how many critical skills may be lost completely if just 15% of the population are lost in a sudden event. And what if it resulted in losing another 15% as fallout, but that reaches a critical threshold and now we have lost even MORE skills and knowledge, and its spirals out of control to 90% of the population. Where our ability to simply keep our basic needs and critical systems functioning, completely breaks down.

It works via the DHT, like BitTorrent. Basically it’s kinda like a broadcast network hunting for the other user.

So let’s say I connect to 8 random peers on my mobile. Then my hosting machine connects to 8 random peers. When we start up an instance we announce to our peers what our keys are and they add it to their DHT (big hash table of peers basically).

Then when I scan the QR of my hosting machine, I ping out to my nearest 8 peers for anyone who has seen the hosting key. If we share no peers in common, then they pass it on to the next set of peers that they are connected to, then through “6 degrees of Kevin Bacon” we eventually cross on a peer that has heard my request, and also heard the hosting machine’s key earlier. (This might realistically only need one or two hops, maybe the DHT of my nearest node already has the update from the host, but not necessary)

Then when I find my host via mobile (this is where I’m less certain about specifics) then both machines do a “hole punching” method where the host and the mobile both try to establish connections from either direction using any available port. Again, a kind of “guess and check” method not so unlike finding a peer with random broadcasting. Then the connection is established, keys exchanged, and viola, P2P direct encrypted connection for whatever you want to do.

There are probably more specifics that I’m missing, but as I understand it, this is the general idea. Hope this helps.
