Proper shampoo and conditioner containers open from the bottom now. That way when they get low, the product pools near the opening while it is sitting there and still comes out easily, rather than the user having to struggle like a fool to get the remaining product out of a container with the opening on the top and the product pooled on the bottom.

So the fact that the vast majority of containers still open from the top seems idiotic to me. Why don’t they all open from the bottom, ever since someone figured out the right way to do this?

Anyway, I save these types of important posts for Nostr.

Ketchup does 🔥

So you just buy another one instead of fumbling to get the last bit out. Fiat world.

Body wash / shampoo / conditioner pump maxi here. Periodically refill the pump bottle with cheaper squeeze bottles.

I imagine there are people that squeeze as they open and get it everywhere? Idk I feel like this has to be a case of "for some reason general population just can't seem to figure it out" lol I'm gonna start seeing top-opening shampoo bottles as a red flag 🤣

Something smartest bears and dumbest tourists something

anything to obscure liquidity

It really depends on how viscous the contents are, but I generally agree with you. I have top-opening shampoo and conditioner and printed out a stand that lets me store them upside down.

I think you might have a business there! 👌😂

It's idiotic, but also economically understandable. Same reason why toothpaste is sold in non-rollable tubes nowadays - one has to buy a new one despite the fact there's still some paste in it.

Only works for plastic bottles.

Microplastics are a massively underrated problem.

Glass is great.

Lol…my best guess is that these new bottom open containers ship upside down.

I routinely tip my “conventional” bottles upside down and every once in a while gravity does its thing better than the closure mechanism does its thing.

Can’t remember the comedian but this reminds me of the joke: “if people are so smart why did it take us 5,000 years to put wheels on suitcases?”

Smooth pavements.

Given that my life is so nomadic, I've invested into squeezable tubes for all my shampoo/soap needs.

They all open at the bottom, but it's largely irrelevant since squeezing is possible.

Also they don't leak! Miraculous invention.

The only reason I can some up with iis to get people buying a replacement a few days before as they end up wasting the last 5% throwing away the bottle before it's fully exhausted. If everyone buys one more bottle every 12 months that's a free lunch for the manufacturer.

I base this on nothing but the urban myth someone told me as a kid. Apparently someone approached Colgate in the 80s and told them for a fee they would increase their profit margin by overnight. The proposal was simply making tubes with hole 20% bigger.

Finally someone is brave enough to say this publicly. Couldn't agree more

It has to be done.

Gradually, then suddenly.

Just keep a knife in the shower so you can slice the bottle open and scoop out the last bits with your fingers. Problem solved.

Honestly. I don't trust anyone who doesn't keep a shower knife 😂

Best response

😂🫡

I do this, but not IN the shower. Sharp knife, water and possibility to slip...

Normal people just keep a shower gun. That is going to create other problems if you use it resolve the shampoo situation.

I just open the shampoo top though, put a little water in, and shake it. That makes it easy to get the rest out. It is mixing with water on your head anyways 🤷‍♂️

Not a bad idea. You can imagine you're waterboarding the shampoo while you do it so you don't feel like less of a man for not using your weapons.

bonus: if you slice yourself open trying to wield a slippery soapy knife in the shower you won't have a big bloody mess to ckean up b/c it will all rinse down the drain. win/win

Then I turn them upside down. It doesn’t seem difficult.

Many types don’t balance on the head. It’s like a narrow cap.

Ah. I’ve got one of those holders that lets me do easily. I cant say it’s product design over some simple solutions that I’m willing to do.

And then the ones that do balance on their caps end up slowly leaking out and down the shower wall. 🙃

You guys don’t fill the almost empty bottle with water to extract the remaining content????

This is why I never shower 🤙

In what chapter of #BrokenMoney do you talk about this?

Do it like your ketchup bottle??

1. The more sun you get, the less you have to wash your hair. Rinsing suffices.

2. The best shampoo comes in a bar and is made of whole animal and fruit fats, not chemicals.

3. The best conditioner is a bit of extra virgin olive oil. Vitamin E maxxing.

Bonus: apple cidar vinegar does an exceedingly good job at cleansing the scalp.

How would of thunk?🫠

You use shampoo and conditioner?

Washing your hair to much with cancer chemo leads no where good.

They want us to buy again before it is empty.

Just add a bit of water to last remaining amout and pour it on your hair, it's water soluble!

We shouldn’t be using plastic containers at all. You can get shampoo bars now.

Mix with water and shake it. Will probably be enough for 2 more uses.

I’ll keep saying it… we would love to have you featured on nostr:npub14kw5ygpl6fyqagh9cnrytyaqyacg46lzkq42vz7hk8txdk49kzxs04j7y0 via Nostr Nest one week nostr:npub1a2cww4kn9wqte4ry70vyfwqyqvpswksna27rtxd8vty6c74era8sdcw83a

Our #1 priority is getting more exposure to Nostr. We would greatly appreciate your voice supporting that mission. ✊🏻

I don't think it's that straight forward. The bottom opening carries the perpetual risk of spilling. If you share a home with incompetent container closers, as I do, this risk is magnified.

Just another indication that we’re still early, Lyn.

my Ketchup opens from the bottom.

Why still using plastic bottle. Try. Solid shampoo conditioner and detergent for your clothes..visit www.boticadejabon.com I’m a Mexican entrepreneur..

This is why we are here on nostr.

Sunday deep thoughts, brought to you by Lyn.

My take is that this is an engineering minimum seal quality threshold / catastrophic failure & risk mitigation issue. The cap seals need to be more robust and failure proof on the bottom, and hence cost a bit more. Failures (leaks) on the top are generally irrelevant in practical use.

Oh, those issues of consumerism. Just use soap, the problem’s solved.

Well many open from the "top" but can be placed upsidedown... I simply avoid to buy those that can't

That's why shower guns exist.

I keep the container upside down when it is 50% down.

I had a 1969 pickup that was designed so it is impossible to lock your keys in your car.

I see good inventions get ignored, or even die off entirely, all the time. It's frustrating to watch us go backward so often.

I used to rant like this on laptops at electronics stores. The revolution has to start somewhere!

Heinz introduced ketchup bottles with the opening on the bottom. Restaurants had all kinds of them. People would use them and put the bottles upside-down, so the opening was on top.

Hopefully, Nostr can help us resolve some of the greatest dilemmas of our time.

Agreed (even though I don’t have hair). Same with condiments and other sauces. The standard has been set. I think it’s a ploy by big shampoo/body wash to encourage more disappearance by counting on lazy consumers who will simply discard the bottle with 6% product remaining rather than precariously balance a bottle upside down to extract the balance.

does bitcoin fix this?

This is exactly the kind of content I'm looking for. Can't wait to read the new book!

There's some honey bottles, & source bottles that open from the bottom too.

A neat idea.

I've tried producing cleaning products many many years ago and asked the same question, for me, it turns out that the error rate of having a bottom cap where the cap might not be screwed in properly / defect in the plastics, can be quite a headache, I mean it's only a very small error rate but when it does happen it always made an disproportionate mess. So unless I have a more advanced manufacturing facilities, I decided to stick with a top cap but made it flat so that if the user desired they can be placed upside down.

Interesting

Just think how long it took before we got wheels on luggage! Could be a long time.

Would suck with a jar of pickles 🤷‍♂️

You’re right though.

I'll take chewing a shampoo bottle open to get the last bit out over a bottom opener any day

Excellent market analysis as usual, Lyn. This is the kind of top quality research I've come to expect from you (:

Depends on viscosity. Shampoo flows easily whereas conditioner is thicker. Shampoo lid on top and conditioner lid on bottom. When the shampoo lid is on the bottom, too much comes out as soon as you open due to the shear amount of pressure from the rest of the liquid sitting on top of it. Conditioner on the other hand benefits from what you’re describing.

shampoo/conditioner is a scam, i use retha/shikakai/amla on hair every week and it is a blessing.

There's a hack for those that open from the top. When they get low, just add some water to it. It will get thinner and you will manage to use it until the end.

Inflation isn't always a bad thing, it allows you to use your shampoo to the last drop.

Let’s all agree it needs to start with mustard.

It’s 2023 and shampoo opens at the top… I mean come on….

I've started buying handmade soap for this reason. Support small businesses and get something you can use up properly too. I don't like shampoo bars much though. For that I'm just buying the bottles that have the squeezy bottoms instead. Don't normally pay attention to what else is available but you're right... how come they aren't the default yet?!
