Paul Mason, Eric Westman, Anthony Chaffee, Rob Cywes and Tim Nokes all have many lectures on the cholesterol con (as well as Ken Berry). Lot of good talks by those guys and others on the low carb down under YouTube channel.
If your triglycerides are low you’re likely good. Listen to some of those lectures and you won’t need to worry anymore. Also look into fasting insulin, a1c and if you can find it there is a test that shows damage level to LDL (particulate test I think it’s called) which if it is damaged is indicative of a problem.
It should be much easier / cheaper to get the tests I mentioned than a CAC test.
I’ve listened to a couple of those guys. Yes, my triglycerides are low. A coronary calcium test would be the only left to check.
I’m not sure but I’ve heard that those tests are expensive and hard to get. Probably unnecessary but if you want it and don’t mind the cost or you live in a place that will foot the bill I don’t see why not.
Lot of good evidence (see Minnesota study) that shows higher cholesterol / saturated fat is protective and correlated with longer life span and better health outcomes.
I remember David Diamond talking about this in one of his lectures.
I had a CAC test done 5 years ago for a kickboxing fight. My now retired family physician prescribed it for me, so it didn't cost me a thing (outside of taxes).
How did the kickboxing match go?
It was a Grand Prix tournament in Lethbridge. Had to fight 5 times that day.
Won the tournament with a 5-0 record. 1 win by decision and 4 by knockout (all body).
I was 0-1 MMA and 0-1 boxing at the time. It felt pretty good getting in the win column.
That is awesome. What weight? Did you fight any more after?
I did MMA at 145, kickboxing at 145 and boxing at 136.
That was my last time competing. I did do grappling tournaments after that, but no striking.
Getting hit in the head sucks. It’s fun and a rush but just not worth it.
I was pretty good, but I decided to focus on my business instead. I didn't feel like I could excel at both at the same time.
Head damage is definitely a risk, but we trained very smart at our gym. Injuries as a whole were very low.
A culture of training smart is huge. Respect OG🫡
I remember going to a boxing gym, where sparring was basically full on fighting. I remember for that month, every time I'd park in the back, I'd be going through a mental routine to prepare myself to get into danger. It was not very enjoyable lol.
I'm glad my MMA gym was the opposite. Everyone took care of each other. We trained hard, yet everyone was going home healthy.
