I’m totally on board with private messaging, private money, private document sharing, and am now trying to migrate to a more private phone.
The Linux thing though… That’s the toughest hurdle, at least for old folks like me.
I briefly looked into Linux like fifteen years ago. I remember at that time a lot of Linux people used a program called ‘vi’ which was their version of Notepad. The arcane keyboard commands required to perform simple tasks that would ordinarily be done with a quick mouse click or arrow key were such a turnoff. It wasn’t that the program was unlearnable; given enough time, I no doubt would’ve picked it up. It just seemed like whoever created that thing made it *intentionally* difficult to use.
I’m guessing that particular app isn’t a thing anymore, but the whole experience kind of gave me a mentality of, “Linux users like doing things the hard way.” Whether it was the expectation that users compile their own apps, or watching these guys repeatedly typing ‘sudo’ time after time before each command line operation, it felt like the Linux community as a whole just enjoyed making simple tasks unnecessarily difficult.
That said, it’s been nearly two decades and big tech has become a force for evil, surveillance, and censorship. Maybe it’s time to give Linux another look. Perhaps typing ‘sudo’ a few dozen times per day and memorizing an obscure keyboard combination to move the cursor up a line in my text editor is a small price to pay for a more secure and private operating system.
Agreed. And it’s not without precedent either. I default all of my Telegram and Signal conversations to auto-delete after seven days. Letting NOSTR users at least define a *preference* for a post’s time-to-live wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. Not all relays would honor it of course, but it’s a step in the right direction.
You’re not alone. I never watched “Titanic” either and have no desire to.
If I’m in the mood for a dramatic love story with a fatal outcome, I have Lifetime Network. Oscar-caliber made-for-television movies Ike “Double Daddy,” “Mother’s Worst Nightmare,” and “Stalked by my Doctor” are more satisfying and interesting to me.
There’s no right or wrong answer, of course. It’s just a matter of your macro perspective.
There are some dark clouds on the macro horizon and I think Bitcoin’s prospects over the medium term depend on whether institutions have placed Bitcoin in their “risk-on” bucket or their “flight to quality” bucket. If you believe the former, you’re better off not adding. If the latter, you’re better off grabbing all you can.
The beauty of not getting married is that you can focus more time on your health and acquiring Bitcoin.
Glad you made the step, congrats!
Finding alternative services and apps in really hard. Did you know that Waze was bought by Google and is powered by them now?

No, I had no idea! Thanks for letting me know. They’re getting harder and harder to avoid.
Gm nostriches, if you’re still engaging with the fiat system (gbp, use euro), fiat social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram), fiat systems (councils, schools, universities), fiat consumption(buying shit you don’t need, hat tip Tyler ), don’t feed the beast.
Try to remove yourself a little, each and everyday. Go full nostr. #grownostr #bitcoin only. Thanks for the podcast nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx and nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m https://fountain.fm/episode/IgKUmKLdgEj25Tt8cX93
Agreed. Don’t feed the beast.
That’s really the beauty of this revolution. It’s non-violent. It doesn’t require bloodshed. Just extract as much from the system as you can, while contributing as little as possible. Be a net “taker” and let the system collapse under its own weight.
All it takes is enough of the productive class to opt out. When there’s no longer enough money to buy the votes of parasite class, they’ll turn on their masters in a heartbeat.

Alby Hub just implemented subaccounts! Alby Hub runners can easily run a custodial "Uncle Jim" service and provide instant wallets to new Lightning and Nostr users, and these wallets are powered by the amazing open protocol, Nostr Wallet Connect - which works in all environments, for both custodial and self-custodial wallets.
These Uncle Jim services can be queried from any Nostr app, and wallets with a lightning address and podcasting 2.0 support can be created instantly from a single API call and be plugged into existing apps for instant wallets - Damus, Amethyst, Nostrudel, Stacker News, Habla News, WavLake, Yakihonne, Highlighter, Bringin, BTCPayServer, Coracle, Freerse, Lume, Wherostr, Zappdit, More Speech, Nostter, Nostur, Snort, Yana, Zap.Stream, Alby Extension, Alby Account, Alby Mobile, Vortex, Spring Browser, and more.
Would you run a public Uncle Jim service on your Alby Hub or add instant wallets to your app and help onboard new users to bitcoin, nostr and value 4 value?

Who the heck is Uncle Jim? If it’s about topping off stacks, I personally would’ve referenced Aunt Jamima, not Uncle Jim.
I must be missing it. There’s a permission screen in the AlbyHub windows app? I don’t see it.
There’s an Alby Account Settings option, but that just opens a web page and I end up in CAPTCHA hell.
Can’t seem to find it anywhere.
I’m a 51 year old retiree and I approve of this message.
Articles only. With articles, I can block all ads and nonsense without much hassle.
With podcasts, I inevitably have to fast forward through a barrage of pitches for garbage products they’re shilling, intros and outtros, ad-reads from sponsors, awkward chitchat, and the ever-annoying “please like, subscribe, sign up for my email spam list, review me on these ten platforms, and support me on Patreon” panhandling.
Agreed. I must say though, the user interface for JoinMarket is atrocious. For joins, I feel like the winning combo is Wasabi with a custom, zero-cost coordinator.
I sent you a DM with my thoughts on this. Looks like someone else named Anon already replied to you. What're the odds of two people named Anon, eh?
Very amusing, Brah...
But you're WRONG!😜
There's a much shorter man...

Ya got me, man! Didn’t see that one coming! 😂😂
Bro, who’s the shortest man in the Bible?
Knee-high-miah.
Nehemiah, bro. Get it? Nehemiah!😂
Interesting. So this screen is available to me on the website, not the hub, correct? I’ll take a closer look. Thanks for the quick response.
My shower thought today was that the subprime mortgage crisis was 16 years ago.
Kind of unbelievable.
And neither regulators nor consumers learned anything from the experience.
Big New 0-day vulnerability for Web Browsers
(for Linux & Mac)
Researchers at Oligo Security have disclosed a logical vulnerability to all major browsers (Chromium, Firefox, Safari) that enables external websites to communicate with (and potentially exploit) software that runs locally on MacOS and Linux. Windows is not impacted by this issue.
Oligo Researchers have found that public websites (like domains ending in .com) are able to communicate with services running on the local network (localhost) and potentially execute arbitrary code on the visitor’s host by using the address 0.0.0.0 instead of localhost/127.0.0.1.
Remediation In Progress: Browsers Will Soon Block 0.0.0.0
Following responsible disclosure, HTTP requests to 0.0.0.0 are now being added to security standards using a Request for Comment (RFC), and some browsers will soon block access to 0.0.0.0 completely. 0.0.0.0 will not be allowed as a target IP anymore in the Fetch specification, which defines how browsers should behave when doing HTTP requests.
Source:
https://www.oligo.security/blog/0-0-0-0-day-exploiting-localhost-apis-from-the-browser
Wow. After decades of use, all major browser makers were simultaneously informed by some obscure third party, the “Oligo Research Team,” that sites can communicate with 0.0.0.0? I remember people discussing this topic like fifteen *years* ago.
I can confirm that many US-based Porsche dealerships discretely install a tracking device on cars as they arrive from Germany prior to customer delivery. It’s done within hours of the vehicle arriving at the dealer.
Customer requests to remove it are deflected or outright refused, forcing him to threaten to kill the deal if the tracking device stays. Only then will they grudgingly remove it.
The tracking is performed by a company named Stargard. If you obtain account credentials and login, you’ll see they keep a log of every location the vehicles visits.
