The first week off alchohol after drinking regularly for years is enlightening. The chemicals are all out of wack, i feel like a different person. Not better per say, just different. even a bit down to the lack of constant dopamine injections. Didn’t realize how strong of an effect it’s been having on me.

Congrats!! 🤝🫡

Keep up with it!!! You got this!! Bravo for getting a week off!

Note that your body is still accumulating. If you don't dream you will start be getting some dreams.

I’ve been having vivid dreams lately…. And I rarely remember my dreams

That was me after I stopped smoking for a few months. I was having vivid lucid dreams almost every other night, it was wild lol

yeah alcohol interrupts REM sleep, and sleep in general since it changes your body temp.

Body resetting. 👍🏼

Congrats. Keep going.

Good for you, man. Keep it up! It’s challenging at the beginning, but the benefits are immense if you stick with it.

Well done. I’m proud of you 🤙🏻🌸

Keep going if that’s your thing. I don’t have a label on it other than it’s been 6 years since I had a drink.

I had a margarita with dinner after not having any alcohol for more than a month, the change in sleep pattern with just one drink was a bit shocking.

Congrats, four months alcohol free after about three years of daily drinking. Guess vodka isn’t really like water for a Russian😔. I’m finding that it’s like a puzzle trying to gamify my own chemicals in lieu of giving myself artificial dopamine

I won’t judge others but basically I see alcohol as poison

It could be the same for YouTube

Quit drinking when I was 23. My life has consistently gotten better since.

Keep going. Eventually drinking won’t be appealing anymore.

planting seeds. it only gets better. love it

Keep it up... It takes a while to reset. There is no healthy amount of alcohol sadly... Especially once the connections are made. I gave it up a year and a couple months ago. Quit the sweet sweet reefer this January... It is crazy how much I dream now.... It's almost like my sleep isn't as good.... Garmin hasn't hit 100% on my body battery in a while. Keep it up, definitely worth it!

Great work. Keep it up!

What is/was regularly and how many drinks on a regular night? But good for you!

1-2 old fashioned s a day

Thanks! Good for you on this move! I’ve been drinking way less than I used to. Haven’t completely cut it out though but would love to read how you feel after some months.

One day at time. Keep it up!

🫂

Excellent choice 👌

if you do this for a few weeks and then drink alcohol again, it also feels totally strange

Try GABA, Or Gamma Amino Butyric Acid supplements. Alcohol is only a few molecules away from GABA, And your body processes it as such. GABA supplements can help the lower intestine start producing more GABA naturally, And help curve cravings. DT tremors are a side effect of the lower intestine not producing GABA naturally. GABA is the inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, And produces the human growth hormone, And is only produced from 6-8 hours of sleep, During the REM cycle sleeping pattern. I have had no problem putting alcohol down when I want, And enjoying alcohol responsibly after using GABA regularly to keep my life in balance.

How much were you drinking on average?

The body will thank you and liver will get rejuvenated 👦

It depends on how much you were drinking. There’s nothing wrong with a couple of glasses of wine a day.

can’t tell if satire

Congrats and keep going. Also remember that there is nothing wrong with enjoying a drink with a friend or your spouse every now and then. The key is to rarely drink

Stick to it. Welcome to the fourth dimension.

This reminds me of how George Costanza stopped having sex and then became a genius. I'm sure you'll be solving the biggest problems of humanity with ease very soon.

In all seriousness, well done loving and respecting yourself.

i definitely remember being less dumb. maybe its age or maybe alchohol has killed all my braincells

The people that experience the biggest and most noticable improvements from ceasing alcohol consumption are the problem drinkers.

If you just have a drink now and then socially or with a meal, you probably won't notice a dramatic difference.

There is also a placebo effect where people believe they will benefit greatly, and so their body responds accordingly.

Quitting alcohol didn't eliminate all my problems, just the problems related to alcohol.

Enjoy not wrecking your quality of sleep.

As someone who has gone through what you are going through several times. Your liver is thanking you for the reprieve. It is time to heal yourself and stay off the persistent booze before it puts you in an early grave. This happened to a friend of mine and I miss her dearly. I don't want to see it happen to you too.

You can do it. Stay strong and continue to be awesome.

My first week as well. Definitely feels strange.

Cold plunge or shower in the morning elevates dopamine levels to about 75% of what you would get from alcohol but doesn’t have the sudden crash, stays elevated 4-6 hours

Fuck yeah. How good is not poisoning yourself

Your sleep, exercise, work, everything will get better

i'm 10months in to that journey (tho i've lowered consumption significantly couple years before) and I dont really feel much of a difference.

With time you will feel much better. It compounds!

sleep quality is massively better without

Did dry January for the first time. This was the first time in my adult life that I didn't drink for more than 2-3 days.

For me, the revelation was pretty underwhelming: Next to no difference,. Only a little less merry 😄 Having said that: I do drink noticeably less and the first few beers tasted weird.

I feel the same but i’m gonna try for 6 months at least

Nice, I'd be interested in hearing whether you have more effects.

Myself, I was mostly wondering whether my short-term memory would improve (it's so horrific with names that it's positively impolite). It didn't, sadly. It's probably more a question of training and, as a good friend keeps telling me, paying attention in the first place... 😁

You can address that by being more conscious and present.

alcohol closes off a person from their higher capacities and encloses them in themselves, making spiritual development difficult or impossible

hmm... while i don't think meditating drunk or hung over is a fantastic, i haven't noticed any adverse cognitive effects once it's out of the system and you recovered. (the added benefit being that while it's in the system, it makes life and everybody around you more interesting and fun 😄 )

so i guess the question is more about the how long-lasting that effect is. you seem to think that lasts longer...? if so, what evidence do you have to support that claim?

Peace, joy, love, contentment, bliss come from being your authentic self, alcohol numbs these feelings and is an escape for running away from the true self and gives an illusion of fun because stresses and trauma are temporarily buried. When you were a child did you need alcohol to have fun? And that child is still you.

I don't believe that's true. I'd also caution: It's never a good sign when your ideology leads you to tell others you don't know about their depth psychology and supposed trauma...

You asked and I shared my experience. Your belief is alcohol is fun but evidence would show its a poison responsible for more pain and suffering than any other substance in the world. Sorry if your ego took it personally brother it was a generalisation which came with good intentions from the heart.

Yes, I understood it's your general outlook and given without ill will, don't worry. My cautionary point remains though.

💪

nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s alcohol ain’t worth it, simple routine of exercise and meditation can help alleviate any mental pain. As well as a balanced diet. Good luck on your journey to recovery man

I'm on year 11. It gets easy very quickly as your body rebalances itself. Then it's just the mental thing. The random urges to pour a drink. But even that isn't real difficult. Just take it one day at a time and pretty soon you'll forget all about it. You'll suddenly realize it's been 6mo or a year.

My one year target anniversary off alcohol ended in 31st Dec 24. I haven’t had a drink since either.

I think I am done. Don’t think I’ll go back.

No alcohol >>>> alcohol.

To me the most conspicuous effect was how much more focused I have become to reach my goals.

No-alcohol should be energizing by itself but coupled with regular exercise, even a mini workout but at least 4/7, works real wonders.

The extra energy drives action forward because you can't dampen it now with alcohol. Even if you feel down you realize the only way *now* to feel better is to go out and do something about it.

I'm on 3rd week, first time in my adult life. Better sleep, better concentration, much more energy, no dilusion. I hope I will be able to keep it on. Because there's a known story about Old Joe who decided to stop alcohol. And as he returned home he passed from first pub, then a second one and on the third, close to his home he said himself "Hey Old Joe, you passed two pubs already, you deserve a drink!"

I have noticed that the more healthy and in shape that I am, the more sick that I feel after a night of drinking.

Alcohol really isn't worth it, especially when you get older. Maybe like a glass of wine with a steak for flavor, or a new year's toast of champagne.

Good job! I just covered alcohol metabolism last week in a class I teach. It's a powerful drug for sure. The human body is better without it.

I quit drinking a few weeks ago. Had been drinking pretty much everyday for the last 15 years. I did ween myself off if it over a long period, over a year. I finally decided to completely stop. Primarily because it makes extra weight stick to me, and it causes brain fog. I also quit smoking weed. I was an everyday smoker for a very long time too. I would prefer my mind be at full power than have these reality escapism tools.

Grats on quitting, when the cravings hit, just remember the craving will pass in ten minutes. When alcohol pops into your mind push it out. Don't entertain such thoughts.
