I used to lucid dream all the time as a teenager, but i stopped. When i don’t try i don’t even remember any of my dreams.

I decided to try again and it was like riding a bike. I journaled 5 distinct dreams last night. No lucidity but i haven’t tried reality testing yet.

I picked up the latest book on lucid dreaming to see if there have been any advancements. I learned that the reality test i was using as a kid is considered unreliable (looking at your hands). Also read that the dream stabilization trick i used (spinning) was still recommended, neat.

Cool to see people have been mastering this.

whats a better reality test?

there are a bunch of them in the book, i just did a search in the book to find hands/fingers only to find its considered an outdated method. Haven’t read the recommended ones yet, but going to look into that today

i had some lucid dreams in my life

but i didnt really push for it

most of the time (during this few lucid dreams) i knew i sleep

but i couldnt do anything

just watch at what happend during the dream

this is considered a lucid dream but a weaker variant. Full control is most fun.

My go-to is holding my nose whilst breathing in through it. In a dream, the breath will happen as normal, despite plugging it.

the book describes this technique! I will try this.

What kind of stuff do you dream about (if not too personal)

I am on a journey to try and start remembering my dreams again, it's something I purposefully stopped doing when I was younger because they were so scary and confusing. It's still quite hard for me to do though.

The most common theme of my dreams is there is some injustice happening and i am angry/trying to fix it.

Even last night i had a dream with my son elliott and we were visiting his favourite youtuber. But the whole time he was being rude to us like we were an annoyance, and it pissed me off since i could tell my son was upset.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, I guess even in our dreams 🫂

You ever had sleep paralysis? I did once. Luckily a friend told me in advance stuff like this could happen. Otherwise I think I would have freaked out but instead it was just an experience 😅

yes the book describes what that is. Your body paralyses yourself so you don’t flail your arms around during REM sleep

I can fall sleep consciously while feeling my body entirely paralyzed. Its weird lol

Regarding lucid dreams. I’ve heard that one needs to focus on a trigger which will then appear to start the lucid part

I prefer not remembering them.

I lucid dream like once a month. Never do reality checks or journal though (used to). I use spinning, rubbing my hands and screaming (well once) to stabilize the dreams though :D Post the reliable techniques as soon as you learn them, really interested!

thats impressive. I almost always needed a reality test. the book describes some people who are hyper observant and can detect things slightly wrong with the environment. I wonder if women are better at this since they have brains that have a better attention to detail.

huh. is there a research-based source for “women have brains that have better attention to detail”?

yeah maybe google "women diffuse awareness" or something. i don't know if its a well studied phenomenon but its an empircal one that I have talked to lots of women about and they seem to agree

there might be a word for it but I've always called it diffuse awareness

its also why women can see the dust on all the surfaces and most men don't think about it at all 😅 very common.

o…k…. I will look into it. Everything you just said is news to me.

Lord of the Rings is very detailed.

Observation of relevant details is an important skill in pretty much every area of work.

with the dust thing, I literally just had an experience where I realized I hadn’t dusted anything in one room for a year. And then after I did, my partner (male) noticed the dust on the computer screen that I overlooked/didn’t notice.

its possible its not linked to male/female, but different types of brains. or maybe its slightly more common in women.

It is really interesting. I often lucid dream but I have never done reality checks. I normally know something is off. Past few months if a dream involves a physical activity of any kind (lifting, running, exercising) and I notice that it is too easy to do it I know it is a lucid dream.

Last night was fun. I was running away from the Taliban while carrying a huge pile of pork. At some point I noticed that I am not getting tired so I decided to "add" some flying to the running. Unfortunately the moment I took off my alarm rang 🥲

Is there any practical use to mastering the lucid dreaming skill - besides the actual coolness of it? Like do you get any mental capacity boost in some way?

one interesting thing is that you still get rest even though you were up all night goofin around

Nice, do you know Charlie Morley?

nope, I learned from obscure message boards in the early 2000s. seems like there are better resources now though

Yes, indeed 😃

A sure fire way I've found to induce lucid dreaming is by wearing a nicotine patch to bed. Discovered totally by accident while I tried to quit smoking 😂

whoa interesting

Five dreams remembered is five new worlds explored. Keep exploring, lucidity is just curiosity with stamina.

i like the spinning top from inception

It seem some overlapping (same?) to Out of Body Experiences as described by Willam Buhlman. Before you think that's too esoteric, he is an engineer and there was some research on this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Out-of-body_experience

https://a.co/d/9H35ttk

hypnagogia hallucinations could explain it though. I have experienced OOB but i think it was my mind hallucinating it

William Buhlman et al. stated Out of Body Experience is a "technology" you could learn.

It was first first described by Robert Monroe who founded the Monroe Institute researching and reaching OBE.

Interestingly the U.S. Military send officers to the institute to learn OBE.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Monroe

> Monroe experienced an unusual phenomenon, which he described as sensations of paralysis and vibration accompanied by a bright light that appeared to be shining on him from a shallow angle.

The lucid dreaming community knows these effects well. He is misattributing hallucinations, the paralysis is so you don’t move around while you’re dreaming

after doing some research it seems like this is a different phenomenon. lots of people feel vibration before OBE instead of paralysis. hrm.

What a synchronicity, I just started reading a book about lucid dreams

which one?

Interesting that looking at the hand is not recommended anymore:. I still remember the time I was in a dream looking at my hands, thinking it was reality, and then not able to count the fingers. This shocked me so much that I woke up immediately

Boys wtf decided to try a SNUS around 15 mins before bed last night so see if it would have the same effect and fuck me what a wild few hours of incredible vivid dreams and normally I don’t remember any of them

Try HTP-5 also

There's a good movie about lucid dreaming with Penelope Cruz.

(can't remember the name)
