By now we should all question basically everything, especially if we can’t easily verify it ourselves.
The problem with that is there is virtually nothing in life you can verify independently, outside your own little tiny sphere. You would drive yourself insane!
You can externalize trust within certain boundaries.
Give alternative voices a certain trust budget, consider their theories critically, remain open to extend/change your world view accordingly as new information turns up.
For example, when its about health, you can't just experiment on yourself just because someone claimed their concoction fixes all disease because if you fall for a scam, you just fucked your body up. But you can analyze the presented theory, check if it's at least internally consistent, if the presenter is open to scrutiny, debate and criticism and measure their responses. If they don't push products and seem genuinely independent, how they behaved in the past, all that.
Sure, this takes time and dedication. But if the alternatives are different stages of ignorance ("clown world, who cares" or "trust the science/authorities") I'd give it a try.
It seems you are talking about checking things thoroughly and agreeing or not. You certainly cannot verify everything.

China has been absolutely trashing their ecology with overproduction, expecting that people would rush to buy what they produce. But the people aren't actually there. Either because they don't want to buy, because they are too poor to buy, or because they simply don't exist. We don't know which it is.
So, what to do with all of the stuff?
Well, the production lines are scaled up, to produce massive quantities, quickly, and at a low price-per-item. And there is no way to scale them down, without going bankrupt. So, they just keep them running, take part of the produce out, and put it in storage. Eventually, the storage is full. Hmmm... Where to put it? Send it abroad! But there aren't enough people abroad, who need a 19th Chinese plastic doo-dad or a 50th cheap cotton t-shirt. Hmmm... What to do? Well, just burn it. 🤷🏻♀️

The populations are all aging, from here, even the Africans. So, they will consume steadily less, going forward. But they keep producing more...

And why go to war? War is an industry that is based on the concept of producing things and then burning them... in order to get natural resources. Natural resources are limited by nature, so you produce something no one needs, you burn it on someone else's land, and then you get the land.
This is all caused by the overproduction of large-scale industry. It would be especially bitter, if that overproduction stemmed from inaccurate birth statistics.
Now, they build these humanoid robots. They are extremely energy-intensive to build, and most people have no real use for them, but I am sure that they will build enough of them for at least 1.4 billion people to have at least one.
And then they will take the excess and burn it.

I think even Danny didn't believe her all too much, starting with the spy thing. That she never even considered being suspected of being a plant seems unbelievable.

Not too long ago, this woman laid out some of the numbers, incentives, and ideas behind the theory. I think she notes that a large part of the “missing” 3 billion can be accounted for by India and China. I haven’t watched the fully podcast episode, but she makes a decent argument IMO.

Absolutely! I did some remote humanitarian aid work decades ago in multiple locations across the world. Every tribal leader I met told me they had 10,000+ people who needed food/medicine/etc. Never came across a group bigger than 500. Been skeptical of population numbers ever since.

You obviously saw the interview with the Chinese lady. She makes a mistake in her assumption though.
She assumes birth rates couldn't hit ~5 per woman due to famine and CCP 1 child policy over the 50 years from 1950 to 2000 but multiple different data sets has the fertility rate of China between 5-6 from 1950 through to the 1960's. That alone is enough to eventually get the population from 500m - 1 billion, even including the famine and 1 CP.
I do though, think that many countries are adding or subtracting values to suit their own agenda. I dont believe India has more than China, for example, as I can't imagine 900m are living rurally.
Papa New Guinea's is an example of census data is certain to be under-reported. They claim 10m people but they are a nation where the majority of people, unlike most countries, actually do live internally away from the coastal regions due to the fertility of the land in the central mountainous regions. The issue there for those that want to collect data is that those central areas can only be accessed by navigating tough jungle or helicopter. One data set has the population closer to 17.5m. Almost double the reported census
So while I do think there is mis reporting, some honestly and some dishonesty, id say there is still between 6.5 and 7.5 billion people.
