I think most supporters realized he was about to suspend his campaign and got sad, or am I just projecting?

that sweet sweet drip of sats from mining with nostr:nprofile1qqsq9k04vahllseell55m74n3047y88pzlr0z5yany32st29fapqmgspz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhsz8thwden5te0dehhxarj9e3xjarrda5kuetj9eek7cmfv9kz7qg4waehxw309aex2mrp0yhxummnw3ezucn89u93ntq6 and getting lightning deposits each block found with bolt12...all with 0% mining fees.

solo mining is cool but you could get some zapping sats too, just saying 🤙

#bitcoin

Any chance you’d be willing to write up your experience setting up the Bolt12? I have a CLN node but still tried and failed

GM! Just because someone is annoying doesn’t mean they’re wrong, just because Udi is an annoying troll doesn’t instantly mean OP_CAT is an attack on Bitcoin. This is exactly the lazy tribalism thinking we need to avoid. Try to learn about the actual reality of how Bitcoin does and/or could work and build your opinion on reality, not influencers.

Thanks a lot both! Mostly just trying to learn and be a more knowledgeable BTC community member. Not trying to change jobs or really build anything. Appreciate the help!

Noob non programmer question: python is always recommended for first language to learn on, and I’m trying to learn a bit now. Bad move? What would you suggest instead?

GM! Not updating your node has zero impact on soft forks because they’re by definition backwards compatible. #Bitcoin #forks

Common misconception: a pleb not updating your node has ZERO impact on if a soft fork is successful or not. Soft forks are by definition backwards compatible. Therefore you have to actively resist a soft fork you deem evil or your node will by default do nothing to blocks that contain the soft fork. You have to adopt a new node client that actively rejects blocks that signal for a soft fork.

Saying Bitcoin will not change because you won’t update your node is 100% false in a purely technical sense.

Ultimately there’s no fair or freedom oriented way to do it that I can think of. Maybe the closest thing is if you commit a violent crime or a non violent crime of sufficient impact (steal $10B or something) you lose your right to vote as you’ve shown you are a threat to society by a jury of your peers beyond a reasonable doubt.

However, down this path you end up doing some sort of “purity” test to see if people are more long term or short term oriented and that is hugely flawed and problematic at best. Yes kids are a maybe a half decent proxy of more long term orientation, but there’s plenty of shitty parents and honest people without kids. It’s not a strong enough indicator to take away someone’s fundamental natural rights imo.

The problem of too many people being too short term biased is very real but it’s easy to get to a state where the cure is worse than the disease. Everything I’ve seen on this topic falls under that category to me: would just make it worse.

Problem for me was there’s so much cheap plastic crap out there it’s worthless so you can’t sell and even some donation venues refuse to take lots of it. It’s often just literal worthless trash.

Anyone know of an American bank that doesn’t require SMS or a phone number for 2FA verification? This is the only item I haven’t solved for deleting my existing phone number and getting a new one. Mine has been leaked in so many hacks that all I get is spam and it’s driving me nuts. I have to have a consistent phone number available for work so I can only do so much to mitigate spam.

In my experience it’s usually worthless plastic crap that even goodwill doesn’t want they’re so inundated with this fiat trash

I definitely respect your point of view but think for family you need to be more mature than that and do what kids and parents ultimately both want, aka quality time doing games and activities they enjoy, and doing something because it’s what makes you feel better but everyone else dislikes it is just selfish. If your love language makes everyone else miserable that is not an adequate justification imo

This is brutal but it got so bad for me I had to bluntly say any crap you buy for the kids will immediately be thrown in the trash. That still didn’t work so I actually did throw the next batch of crap in the trash, and they finally eased up after that. I totally realize this is extreme but the amount of crap was overwhelming and got to a point where I felt like I couldn’t walk around my home so a drastic move felt justified. 🤷

GM! Any hardware wallet is strictly better than leaving your #Bitcoin on an exchange. If you’re a beginner, just pick one you like and can use comfortably for now and get your Bitcoin into cold storage ASAP, and then research more later. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good enough.

I love debating nerdy hardware wallet tradefoffs, but the truth is they are generally all pretty good and sadly there’s still millions of Bitcoin held by custodians.

I had seen a lot of talk on the Bitaxe and Canaan Avalon Nano home miners, but hadn’t seen anything detailed yet. So I wrote about my experience on: Home mining options for noobs https://www.yakihonne.com/article/btconboard@vlt.ge/4VfSYBRTgkkVFirjC0mnY

Know many smart people who lead unhappy and unfulfilling lives stuck in society’s tropes, and lots of left curve folks who accomplish a ton and are happy and hard working.

Huge life changer. It’s really great. I really feel bad for the Peter Pans out there living sad lonely lives because society lied and said it would be happy and fulfilling.

Bank security practices are so byzantine and broken it's absurd. I spent 45 minutes helping my mom unlock her Chase account today (which was locked because she sent $500 via zelle to a friend who is in the hospital!) Here's how it went:

- Locked for no reason

- Number on website goes to automated answering machine

- It asks for her debit card number (what?) to identify the account

- This is lost and also needs to be replaced. There is no alternative method, 0 doesn't get us to a person

- I call Chase customer service, different number, very similar system, but I am able to get a person on the phone

- They verify her identity by making me hand the phone to my mom and ask her to state her name (what). They also ask for her ssn and a security phrase she doesn't know, although she does manage to share the security phrase for her other bank.

- They re-order the debit card and transfer us to another department, where we do the whole verification charade again

- They send a 2fa code via sms. We receive it, but the site shows an error and won't let us put the code in.

- They then send a different code, and ask me to give it to them over the phone, which the text message explicitly says not to do.

- Despite my better judgment I gave them the number. They then do something on the backend, and I enter a *new* code they gave me over the phone into the web portal to get it unblocked.

It's no wonder old people get scammed! Force someone to deal with this BS for 20 years and anyone would get confused and give the wrong code to the wrong person.

It’s so easy to make a little mistake and get owned in fiat world, so sad

Most people I know 50+ have the vast majority of their wealth in banks and government bonds. To me that’s insane compared to Bitcoin.
