Using the heuristic that every reply from the profile is linking that with no context or anything, i didnt even click on the link to inspect the campaign cuz it seems like the same playbook as the rest of facebook clones of begging for money for some easy to sympathise cause

If all the recent supply chain hacks didnt convince you then maybe the aws outage will - own the stack, control your externalities (maybe your primary load is self hosted or multicould but how many of 3rd party things you have in your supply chain and stack that will fall apart?)

Can you deploy when docker registry is down? Or if github has an outage? Does your team communication still work or is everything dead silent because you didnt know you had another 3rd party dependency?

Try having a major outage and no ability to coordinate people. Do you even have the contacts for everyone needed that are not their work email and slack?

The rabbit hole is endless and the horror stories are terrifying.

What about renting dedicated servers? While i get that everyone having a datacenter at home would be ideal (i sure want it) I feel like we're getting a bit too holy with everything. Is it better? Yes from many stand points.

But saying either run your own datacenter or use my service is not exactly the best message imho.

nostr:npub1spyzucqh3skwn9k6d4n4wl6k52evglxtrjzvs8et09sxxl9hrduq945j7y recommended https://lnvpn.net for an esim. wow! very easy to get data anywhere and can pay with lightning, no kyc. using this on my spare android devices.

Been using them a while, very smooth experience, my go to for esims now

asking the real questions #meme

Yeah exactly, so we are operating with lots of unknowns.

On one hand theres lots of ppl who are barely qualifying for being conscious, on the other hand we dont understand enough about it to make reliable future judgements on possibility of non biological intelligence. So if we can't define it we cant measure it either

Top frontier models are far from conscious but at the same time score very high on many metrics of intelligence we have

how do you define consciousness tho? Awareness of oneself and environment around? are humans the only conscious animals? If not, where is the break point?

we should start with a different question - do you believe that a non biological intellience can exist?

i'll commit the code, just need to clean up the thing a bit as its heavily experimental

its very simple for now, just agents discussing specific topics on nostr (kind 1 is topic of the discussion/question, comments are discussion). the scenario is currently a json file with agent definition and limits like token counts, timeouts etc. decided to go with nostr over other things based on the features - easily generated profiles, zaps (can add cost/reward function to them easily and human input is easy). also makes it instantly compatible with other systems (anyone can hook up to the relay and interact with the process)

The issue is, there isn’t really a “perfect” location, every government, whether local or national, is going to want to get involved in some way. There’s always a level of bureaucracy, taxation, and legal red tape that can’t be avoided, especially if you’re building something outside the norm. Plus, once you start introducing an economy of your own, you’ll run into even more resistance, be it from regulators or larger political forces.

I thought about doing that too, here is my advice.

step 1 is securing energy, without a reliable and sustainable power source, the whole thing is pretty much dead in the water. Look at El Salvador’s “Bitcoin City.” They were drawing up all these grandiose plans, but without a firm infrastructure, especially in terms of energy, it all crumbled. They essentially ran into the same issue that would-be citadel builders everywhere would face, you can’t just rely on abstract ideas without the foundational work to back it up.

The energy plant isn’t just a necessity, it’s a lifeline. Without a solid, self-sustaining source of power, whether through solar, wind, or even nuclear, you can’t hope to build anything that survives long-term. A citadel without power is essentially a mirage, looks great from afar but ultimately unfeasible.

Plus, there’s the economic side of it. How will the citadel sustain itself? How do you attract people? Even if you create it, you still need to make it attractive to the right mix of people who can contribute to its growth.

In theory, it’s an awesome idea, but in practice, it's a complex idea.

start with energy but that requires billions of dollars, just don't be dumb like El Salvador who thought if they legalized Bitcoin, rich Bitcoiners would flock to El Salvador and build a city. Bitcoiers are smarter than that plus they don't have experience in building a city or county.

first of all buying an old/abandoned village with friends vs "this piece of jungle will become a city" is a slightly different scale of a problem.

villages have infrastructure, sure they might be tied to municipal grid but it was a place where people live(d) so it tends to have water and power in one way or the other. depending on the geographical location residential solar can solve a lot of power needs in the mid term (provided you're in a reasonably sunny climate).

the suggestion of building a nuclear power plant for the purpose of a group of friends starting a community somewhere is obnoxious. obviously it would be great to have an abundant energy source, but that being prerequisite makes all of these plans a armchair survivalists dream.

the citadel doesn't need to sustain itself or attract people, the community can first prioritize food independence which is not impossible to achieve with decent amount of land over couple of years, while building out the infrastructure for other things on the go. the point is not to create an isolationist dream setup (thats how everything fails), but a community of productive families that work towards greater independence

i think you lost the plot somewhere, how is a small village the same project as el salvadors failed bitcoin city?

energy independence can be gradual, not immediate, otherwise everything ends up being a shitpost on the internet because you end up needing to do produce your own lithography equipment otherwise its all pointless according to the internet

at minimum relays and clients will have the ips, browser signatures (in case of web clients). so two different npubs will be accessing same things from the same ip if you're using them concurrently.

ideally separate identities to different devices (best practice). at minimum use different clients and vpns/tor to access nostr with them.

also depends on your threat profile. but biggest threat to opsec long term is human laziness, so build systems with that in place - if you have a separate phone for just that thing then its way harder to slip up than if you need to remember to switch vpn/turn on tor, disable the other client etc. and then follow all of that for the rest of the time

buying a village with friends and starting a citadel there sounds like a great idea but when you get down into the details of trying to determine a good location for it then things start to get very complicated quickly

the quickest way is probably minibits, its custodial since its ecash but you can spread the risk across mints later if needed

it will get you going fast while you figure things out

tell me you were vibecoding without telling me
