was entirety against listening to anything at 1.5/2x speed
now i do it with everything
was entirety against listening to anything at 1.5/2x speed
now i do it with everything
why?
sometimes i do the same thing, i look for the core
EuI have friends who are in 1.5X so it’s normal; impressive!
Amazing, I had that same realization today.
What changed bro
Same here. Underrated Life hack
your loss
2x is hauling
I 3.5x lex Friedman when I have to listen to one of his podcast otherwise it turns into a sleep hypnosis
There’s no going back
Because there is so much crap in audio .. particularly #podcasts .
No one gives a fuck about your weekend !
I firmly believe intelligence isn't knowing everything, it's the ability to challenge everything you know.
Knowing "everything" is knowledge. Kind of knowledge is knowing that tomato is a fruit but intelligence is not putting it in a fruit salad.
lol
Challenging statement. Questioning myself if...
I thought that’s just being schizophrenic
I guess you did say ‘ability to’ so maybe you don’t mean it’s smart to always actually do it
"Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change."
Stephen Hawking
There’s much truth in this statement. I’d include a pinch of intuition along with a light sprinkling of creativity
Two days ago I thought it was February. But I’m wiser for it. nostr:npub1dgpt04w4c88wc0g262xaw8zvlm4mvwtmjhl0tn2sxtyjywsn6q4qt8ka3a
Mmmm, i think that with this type of mindset you could become a person who is never fully satisfied with their knowledge and always wants more. Sometimes you need to know when to stop and say you don’t know, and the rest will come naturally
Wise words

sounds #weird
We can understand things waaaay faster than people can talk, 2x speed is The Way.
Speed reading is also a cheat code.
best feature ever 🙌 wouldn't mind if we could get 2.25
At the rate of exponential growth of the world 🌎💨
Hahaha same same
My wife used to coach blind soccer. She listens to audio messages at 3x. I couldn’t keep up. lol.
💯 everything except music
Sometimes I feel like it contributes to anxiety
it does for me! I occasionally use the option to slow it down, like .75 or something. Whatever that one lower option is.
I respect the choice, but my autistic brain won't allow it. I enjoy being in the moment. Call me old-fashioned.
funny. I used to do it all the time for years... and it seems like I have been leaving everything at normal speed lately. don't even know why. like I totally forgot I could actually speed things up.
Have you noticed getting more impatient with real life conversations lately?
Is this because most people try to speak slowly so they sound more intelligent & poised?
Not going to lie, it does sound more & more appealing nowadays to increased the playback speed. Might try later 🫡
They’ve trained to speak slower.
It makes for better presentation and they will use less filler words and sounds.
If it's not music, poetry or quantum physics, go to warp speed Mr. Scotty
I have the opposite situation. I used to listen to everything at 1.5-2x speed, but now I listen to everything at the original speed.
I can’t quite explain it clearly yet, but it feels like my brain processes information more effectively when it thinks slowly. At higher speeds, it’s more like “listening just to listen” rather than “listening to remember.”
I’ve been listening to everything at 2x speed. The brain has a natural ability to quickly gather information and then summarize it. Because most content only has 10-20% that we need to learn and remember.
What made you change your mind?
I always felt like our brains are optimized to absorb at 1x speed. I have tried some podcasts at a higher speed but it really feels like i cannot keep up. This probably has to do with the material being discussed and maybe even english not being my main language.
I've never listened to an audiobook though. Books are always more verbose so maybe it works better for those.
Same question and same experience. What changed your mind?
Time is just now, all information already exists. If 0.5. 0.75 1 or 1.25 or 1.5 or 2 help you with that, go ahead, it already exists.
2.5x and sometimes even 3x. TFW Alexander Mercouris' 1.5h show only lasts 30-40 minutes. 😇
1.5x life
1.25 for me, any quicker and I can’t absorb it
What changed your mind?
I struggle to listen to anything slower than 1.75, usually at 2 depending on the speaker.
It’s not even a hack, my brain simply doesn’t engage 😔
Now you need to start talking at 1.5
What's the rush? There's only this moment. ommmmmmmmmmm🧘
If you speak or understand Spanish, you are ready to talk to a Chilean 😆
I really struggle with 1.5 x and definitely can’t do the 2 x. I’m a read every word of every line kinda guy
Now, try to read at 2 x
1.25x still sounds natural-ish to me. I can’t do faster than that
I can’t listen to a podcast at 1x speed.
I wonder if knowing that most people speed it up, podcasters now slow their recording down?
1x Sounds so slow now, slower than real life conversations.
2x is hardcore.
Exclet for any Paolo or Roasbeef pods I imagine 😄
Feel like the flash when you switch back to 1x and wonder “does everyone speak this slowly?” lol
GM In fountain? ha ha ha
What changed?
Do you wash the dishes any faster now?
Almost the same with me, but I prefer to listen to at 0.25x.
Many people noticed that listening to podcasts at higher speeds has caused issues with relating to others, including their kids. When you get used to information at a fast pace it can create a mental framing where you expect information faster. When dealing with others who are doing things at "normal speed" this can lead to more anxiousness or irritation with them. What are your thoughts?
Yes and you can also start talking faster yourself which can make you appear anxious
once met one of my favorite bitcoin podcasters nostr:nprofile1qyx8wumn8ghj7cnjvghxjmcpz4mhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejqqg8g6e7yxkj2tycyu9q59q8f2th7z7lyy48u5fu3d0mrl8mnu49t5s02kql2 in real life and introduced myself. when he started to speak at 1.0x to me, I thought something is wrong with him.
Life is too short for 1x speed
1.2 is the sweet spot. Not too manic. Not too slow.
That can't be healthy
1.25x maxi
2x is is raw to the apple core
it's the only way
1.25x or 1.5x for me. I'm not big brained enough to keep up at 2x.
you'll get there 🫡
HMMM
I have to try it.
I can barely listen to 1.25x. Too many words packed into short time span, can't comprehend what I'm listening to.
I only recently started doing this and it's a game changer.
Trying that right now with this podcast at 1.5x
https://fountain.fm/episode/e1sCwX8sgpRJRCa6AP05
Does anyone find that this causes you to speak faster, too?
#asknostr
This is what I do with every video I watch for school. One of the best decisions of my life.
Ruins intro songs
But it’s the cost of greatness
Let your brain rest
I’m convinced that a lot of YT videos slow their videos down to stretch them out for more ad revenue.
You get more life v time
Totally agreed
That’s why I use 1.25 🤣
but how you can proceed the information then? i think still with 1x speed you need breakes between paragraphs to reflect.
So, do you reduce the time dedicated to feelings based on what you hear? Or do you believe that when listening, only knowledge influences and no other factors are involved?
@jack is in the version of “When the EGO makes you run”. We’ve all been there.”
Brain > eyes and ears
It's very difficult for me. It reminds me of the videos of influencers who mount them without leaving silences and stress me out.
Things like this have been irking me a lot , it's this diff of visable effects of my word being seen from past signaling (21' me I think ) and present me bereft of the support or meaningful .. stuff , as a litmus test of what humanity can offer(show me whatchu got) just see stupid echoes of others desires, every profound wisdom I've educated distorted and placed like darr smeared penny paper on a projector while I'm reaching to the feng1 and reviled by all which so desperately an callously clings to two d cutouts of what they want me to be while spitting on the space time cross sections floating through their cubicles.
