I would invest in a car company committed to making all mechanical cars, zero electronics
The opposite of a Tesla

You're gonna bring back the carburetor and wired gas pedel hahaha
Would you make an exception to spark plugs and starting motor and lights and the radio? 😜
Same. I don't want a smart phone with wheels.
Yes
Tesla=Bitcoin
Mechanical=Ethereum
Go to the future not the past. On some things…
Yep. Naturally aspirated, no injection, no fly by wire throttle or steering, no electronic ignition, and capable of running completely dark with no headlights, tail lights or running lights because YOU choose to.
In particular you may like the 65 coupe. It is just beautiful
like the mechanical watch boom after the apple watch..
Full analog. That feeling of rolling up/down the window 💦
Had this exact same thought recently. There seems to be growing demand for this. I’d love to see a car manufacturer offer a model stripped of all the unnecessary tech and make a simple, reliable, and affordable car
Unfortunately in the US the amount of mandatory safety features precludes this at scale.
In #Australia, from this year its illegal to sell a new car without a remote kill switch entrusted to the government
Mad Max is going to be super boring!
If I'm ever forced to buy a 2025+, rodents are going to chew off the little ECU antenna.
Sad :p
Re Mad Max though, my BIL has an acre of vintage cars in need of modifications. And crossbows :)
I would be okay with minimal electronics. By today's standard, minimal would be practically none.
What this will likely look like if it happens is a super cheap car that just happens to have minimal electronics to save cost. That's the only way I see the trend reversing at this point.
Electric windows, locks, and a Bluetooth stereo would be okay.
Everything that's wrong with modern cars
Does steam powered count? I bet materials science advancements could enable us to make some wicked steam powered vehicles
After reading One Second After I started thinking about this too. EMP protection.
full of hardware buttons to press😍
What about an Open-source electronic car?
Why would it need to be open source?
Electricity+ electric motor= go
No code needed
Nice call shatk, I'm also looking for a company that builds 4k dumb tvs worldwide.
this seems promising
modular, hella simple car . We'll see if it ever comes to existence and if its not bullshit.
You mean, actual cars and not computers on wheels? What a novel thought.
My wife and I were talking about this a couple weeks ago.
Do let me know when you find it, I’m in
I would like to keep fuel injection though...
i did make a small career on reverse engineering ECM firmware though. It's not that bad on the old stuff. Would be nice if they opened things up a bit.
there are fully open source engine and transmission management systems, they'd just need to be adopted.
And you can only pay for it using seashells, none of this magic Internet money 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Apart from the EMFs emitted by Teslas, the last thing anyone needs is a car that can be hacked or one that can be remotely controlled

Get a soviet era Lada Niva and be done woth it. You know it's going to last the next 200 years anyway
These ones look still very basic
And it’s better than 90% of today’s SUVs

1HP

Also full self driving, sustainable (runs off of grass), and if you have two, they will keep making more of themselesves for you forever.
I would buy an electric car if the motor and lights were the only electronics.
Elon Musk only bought Tesla because he wanted to ruin electric cars.
Me too
they already existed and I think there are still a few in museums or garages
ECU needs to be removed not electronics EV's will win. Batteries will win. Solar will win.
Hm no electrics...
Hard but not impossible. Sturdy old Diesel engine.
Electric lights would be nice though, maybe even an optional starter.
MCHGA!
Make Carbide Headlamps Great Again!
GM ☕️
The new flex in the coming years will be vehicles like this.
🧡👊🏻🍻

I always find this take so funny. Tesla's are so much simpler with so many less moving parts. I'm suprised Cypherpunks aren't just making open source software or hardware just to replace the computer in Tesla's rather than try to rebuild the complexity of cars that is Internal Combustion
Yep they're very simple
Elon simply presses a button at HQ and your car is bricked or drives you to the gulag
And non-retarded door handles plz
🤷♂️😉💪
have fun - no A/C, heat, ABS, turn signals, headlights, wipers….
I’m starting with leases and moving to mfg. DM me
Yes!
I don’t understand why no entrepreneur has taken advantage of this market
Because it wouldn’t be street legal
Why not? There are old cars without any of that stuff
New cars have to pass homologation and meet regulatory targets to be deemed street legal.
Why can’t a new car pass these “standards” and be private?
Here’s an intro for you. We will never be able to buy a new small, simple, affordable car in the US again
Me too. I would actually like it to be electric, though. But with as little electronics as possible. A simple electric, maybe modular, drive chain ought to be possible to repair even for someone like me who hates car repair.
we need an open source toyota hilux!
I fear the day where I move from inserting a key into the ignition to a push to start
💯
LOL. I was literally thinking this today.
Back to basics. Wind up windows, no fluff, just a utility tool.
Make them cheap enough, easy to work on, and cheap parts for maint, and they would sell well IMO.
We need to get these rolled out worldwide asap

somehow this kept running as a background process in my mind over night and i had to do some digging
there was decent open source car movement in 2010s but most of it seems dead now.
first we need to establish what are we trying to solve - transportation from point a to point b (a functional vehicle) or compliance with state laws and regulations to make a "road certified" car which is likely where a lot of the cost will come from.
EVs are in the lead here due to their simplicity with order of magnitude less parts which means less precision manufacturing etc.

i've also done some sleuthing to acquire tabby and rally fighter cad files just in case i live forever and find myself with an empty garage and motivation to build one, in case people want i can upload them somewhere
