I have hundreds of burner emails used for various services throughout the years in order to not link my identity across them. Have lost access to most. It is a massive pain and mental burden.
Few appreciate how great it is that we use nostr without attaching an email or phone number to our accounts.
Anyone know if privacy.com works? This isn’t for emails but masks your financial cards
It works for me. It essentially puts all your eggs in one basket instead of spreading your payment info through out all the places you shop. For what it is it works well, but buying with cash or non-kyc btc is better.
Works well for what it is. I have it linked to a smalll bank rather than something huge like Wells or BofA. Depending on needs, I'll use cash, btc, monero, or privacy.com over legacy credit cards
Have been ising it for over a year. It’s great. I never give cc info out online. You can create a burner card for one time payments, or set a limit on a card that you want to use with a vendor on an ongoing basis.

Apple had Hide my Email which basically solves this problem. The caveat is that Apple knows all those email addresses belong to you. Certainly better than reusing the same email account.

Apple has many faults, but I love their Hide my Email functionality for that exact reason. While not without compromises it removes the mental burden of creating and managing unique email accounts.
The biggest benefit of using Apple is the ability to login with dedicated burners and have them all saved to keychain.
I’ll pay Sats for someone to build the same with my npub if it integrates with 1Password!

SimpleLogin allows you to create burner emails. But yeah I agree I love the fact that Nostr doesn’t require an email 🤙🏼

New email address for every service so that you cannot be tracked across sites and all forwarded to your primary email inbox.
Once an address gets leaked and you receive spam to it just disable it with one click.

Is it a reliable and trustworthy company? They could give all information to a government if they were forced to. Or is it protected somehow?
Help me understand simplelogin and why so many recommend it. The tradeoffs don't make sense to me.
You are sending all plain text email transmissions in to a central company who then forwards them on.
Sure they are open source, say they don't keep records and delete but there is no way to know or not if they really are deleting after forwarding.
I guess it's the same tradeoff we make with VPN providers but this seems worse to me for some reason 🤷♂️
If you are not self-hosting the simplelogin stack than you have to trust them just like with every email provider. It’s a downside of e-mail as a protocol, that it is not easy to self host and the provider gets your plain text mails.
If you can trust simplelogin than you gain a lot of advantages because you never have to give out your real email address.
If a burner address gets leaked you can simply disable it and know which site leaked it because you use a different address for every site.
Also you cannot be tracked across sites by your email address as a unique identifier.
The ease of social sign-in married to the power and privacy of public-key cryptography made me fall in love with Nostr.

It's just kinda thing now and everyone accept it as it's normal.

Having a login standard using nostr is the future. With a standard way for managing all of those identities.
sir its because you don't use worldcoin. Once you sign up for that there is no more worry ever again about burner emails. LOL
It is security alignment. People oversell complexity of key management only because we are used to custodial passwords. Money and identity are great motivation to manage keys and walk away from surveillance/ad networks.

Gatekeeping is Sith work. You shouldn't have to verify anything for any service that isn't vitally important and you shouldn't be keeping vitally important information a few keystrokes away from access.
They will appreciate it in time when they start waking up. I appreciate Nostr for no phone number or email tremendously. It’s the main reason I came here and left shwitter a long ass time ago

I use SimpleLogin for my emails. New email for every login or whenever you need a email. Forwards to you main email and you can reply without giving out you main email.

Having discarded many identities myself, it is a drag. And i feel the window for us to play around with several identities is closing (until Nostr of course).
The govts are doing as much as possible to curb anonymity.
Maybe their main goal is to make sure you pay your taxes. But I don't agree with the income tax regimes. Fuck outta here with your extremely misaligned model of a society.
I can't recommend simplelogin enough. Really solves this. Setting it up to work with a custom domain that you own is excellent as it makes it much less likely to be blocked or cancelled, and lets you "own" and migratethosee emails toanother service in the future.

anonaddy is a solid service to make burner emails that you can track. your point about not needing email is well taken, but while email is still used I recommend checking out anonaddy.

Oh god, I get the pain. Vaultwarden, ProtonMail, Simple Login and the latter two use one of my own WHOIS guarded domains. I drop all the random logins into my Vaultwarden, receive everything via Protonmail, generate the aliases with SL. Its one heck of a stack, but it works ... mostly. Still better than what happened to my old GMail account, which keeps being flooded with crapmail, almost hourly. And the junk folder is nothing short of a nightmare.
So, thank fiatjaf for only needing an nsec. It really is so much easier.

Proton Pass (recently released) has a great feature called aliases, very easy to keep track of everything and allows unlimited addresses that forward to your main address. For future reference.. can't fix the past. #Nostr is sick though!
