Weekend Nostr question: What's your diet and exercise routine like?

I'm 90-95% carnivore, workout every other day with x3 bands and take long walks on the off days. That's worked very well for me.

I'm always open to learn so let me know what you do to stay healthy!

That's already a great routine You have. I like to consume chaga too. Good for immune system. Look it up. 😉

I will!

My diet is 100% plant based every day I run 8km, practice callisthenics and rings

I was vegan for a year about 9 years ago and felt great but got really thin so reintroduced meat. I have no issues with it though. People should do what works best for their body.

I love this! I'm carnivore too, but was vegan for a while. I don't care what you do, whatever makes you feel best!

I respect anyone trying to make their life better ❤️

I think mostly plants with some high quality meat is the way to go.

Yeah I'm more like follow science based studies 🤙💪

Evidence based ftw

I tried evidence based and was still sick and fat.

Doing elimination diets was the tool that finally allowed me to resolve the underlying issue.

Nothing against evidence based though, that data is incredibly useful and helped to illuminate all sorts of things people shouldn't be eating.

What kind of evidence have you been reading?

I was agreeing with science based.

There is a lot of bad science and "evidence" out there. It can be hard to sift through the BS.

I think the real enemy is always ultra processed and high sugar foods. Best to avoid those.

💯

The big ones are obvious, I think like 90% of it is just not doing the things that we obviously know don't help.

I read a lot, so when I was trying to first get stuff figured out I read a bunch of different books about diet. And closely followed a bunch of podcasts revolving around nutrition.

Off the top of my head: multiple different Michael Pollan books, a couple about blue zones, some books about evolutionary diets.

As for podcasts, I preferred more data centric diets with researchers/doctors than "influencer" types.

Layne Norton, Huberman, Peter Attia, Andy Galpin are a few I've been following for a while. I love all of their information, but it was still pure carnivore that was the most helpful tool in all of my dietary experimentation.

Try how not to die by Dr Michael gregger

🤙 great book, my wife went down rabbit hole and got all his books.

Isn't that guy in terrible physical shape?

I'll still totally read his books if it's good information, but that's a huge detractor for me when following someone's advice.

Same reason I don't take financial advice from homeless people.

He looks to be in good/decent shape.

If you need a good shape read the plant based athlete by Robert cheek (photo)

🤙💪

I'll check it out! Thanks for sharing I'm not trying to be too close minded about carnivore and look forward to some new opinions.

Hope you have a fantastic Sunday 😄

Same. Vegan diet and play tennis 4 times a week. Blood work is great with ApoB levels @ 50-65mg/dL.

I'm like 70% carnivore, gym 2-3x per week, just focusing on the compound lifts.

💪🙌

-Workout 3-4 times a week (stationary bike and lifting)

-started IMF about 20 days ago going well

-wish I could go full carnivore but it's been hard with kids so lots of meat and low carbs but carbs are in there

It's certainly harder with non carnivores in the house. I'd be even more so if my wife was also carnivore but she's not so I occasionally break from it.

What are 3x bands?

https://www.jaquishbiomedical.com/x3-bar/

Much easier on my aging joints. Prior to using this I lifted but this is working much better for me.

- Intermittent fasting 16/8

- calisthenics

- high protein/fat

- limited carbs / grains

- long walks daily

- chasing my kids around 😂

Haha yes! My kids are old enough to not chase anymore but I remember those days well.

I find that as long as I’m able to restrain myself from eating their leftovers at meals, I’m good.

Not optimal, but good. 😂 that’s just the season I’m in. Good is better than nothing.

I'm about the same ratio carnivore, though it varies by time of year. I'm currently doing a keto version to help get my body fat back down into the single digits.

For workouts, I train jiu jitsu really seriously 3-4 times a week, lift weight 2-3 times a week, yoga, running, volleyball, and any other ways I can get shirtless time out in the sunshine based on how nice it is outside and what my friends are doing.

That's some serious activity! My son takes kung-fu during the week and loves it.

That's cool! Martial arts are amazing and so good for humans.

Brazilian jiu jitsu is infinitely better though 😉

Yeah but this place is 3 minutes up the road and gets him away from the electronics so I'm good 😂

Monday - back

Tuesday - front

Wednesday- legs

Thursday- back

Friday - front

Saturday - walk

Sunday - walk

Nice! 💪

Stick with your carnivore diet and lift 5 to 6 days a week and you’ll be good 🏋🏽‍♀️ build that muscle 💪🏽

Bands are far better for me and my joints than lifting (I was lifting prior to x3) and have better data behind them so that's what I do now. To each their own though! Whatever works for your body is what you should do.

💯 agree we must do what’s best for us 💪🏽🙌🏽

CrossFit 5 days a week + runs when I feel like it

- it’s quick and I don’t have to plan my workouts

- it’s cross training so I get good coverage

I’m a changed person since I started doing it a year ago

Amazing how quickly change occurs when you stick to a routine, even if it's not hours long.

💯, and the routine is the most important part. Most important thing I did make it a non negotiable- whatever is going on, work, personal - exercise time is an absolute must

Pretty much the same diet, carnivore + some fruit and rice.

My weight lifting routine is based on Gironda’s 8x8 plan (modified to what’s possible for me). I lift weights everyday that I’m not too sore or busy (I don’t miss two days in a row).

Cold plunges have been undeniably great for me.

Just starting to add weekly yoga and sauna. And using a weighted vest for when I walk my dogs.

Nice! Yoga is fantastic. I've borrowed a few stretches that really helped with my lower back. I was in a car accident with a tractor trailer when I was 20 that messed up my lower back. It got much better when I got more fit though.

Damn! Glad you were able to find something that works for you!

As I got healthier, especially cutting out inflammatory junk food, I noticed that a lot of joint pain from old injuries, just went away. Then I’d eat crap, and the next morning, hello knee pain!

Not sure how much it relates to something as traumatic as a bad car accident but it really surprised me how broad the effects were of getting healthier and more fit.

It really has made a difference for me too. Switching to carnivore got rid of a lot of little issues I dealt with before but was so used to I didn't actively notice. A few months after being carnivore I was like "Hey, my back doesn't hurt" or "Hey, my allergies aren't nearly as bad". That kind of thing.

I’m pretty close to having a carnivore diet now, and it’s great (I still eat fruit). However, I gotta admit that when I was a whole-food-only vegan a while back, I also felt big health improvements. I think cutting out processed foods is one of the most important things you can do with your diet.

I'm of a similar opinion. I think it's less about what foods you eat as long as they are whole and unprocessed. Whether that's meat or veggies or whatever. One thing is for sure, though, the "RDA" is absolute BS "science". It was just a bunch of doctors' opinion about what they "thought" people should have each day. It's not evidence based at all.

Yes, the food pyramid was quite the scheme.

Same!

I’m hopeful more and more people will find this level of relief, happy for you!

🙏

No sports. Too much fast food. Need to get on my indoor bike again but just had Covid and wait till fully recovered

Sounds like you’ve found your jam. The best routine is the one you can consistently stick with. If it’s working well for you keep going 💪

I eat mostly meat and dairy fat (butter, ghee, cream), occasionally cheat with dark chocolate, stone fruit or (sushi) rice

For exercise I walk or cycle about daily, but don't do any resistance training or intense cardio

100% Argentinean meat!

Years ago I read The Complete Book Of Running by Jim Fixx.. Nowadays, I'm walking/running 5 miles, 4 - 5 times a week. Being outside in the wind and the activity around you clears your mind. Jogging has gotten me answers to alot of issues life threw my way.. Go check out the book. You might look back and be happy you read it. Good luck.

A few years ago, my wife's eyes were failing due to type 2 diabetes. I went on a "sympathy diet" with her. All I did was cut out sugar... No more sweet iced tea, no ice cream desserts every night...

Well, I've never been one to get on the scale all the time. A couple of months in, I happened to get on one and was shocked to discover I'd dropped thirty pounds without even knowing it.😮

Sugar (esp. chronic excess) is poison!🤮

Only running

Awesome to see all the things Nostr folks are doing to get after it in the replies 💪💪

I use the Freeletics app. It works for me only when I don't have to consider what exercises to do... And the app takes care of that for me!

The x3 guy is a douche. Decent system but the bar is a bit short for me. Gotta get on that Harambe😎
