I never really watch tv shows.
Can someone shill me a show?
i’m talking the best of the best - it doesn’t have to be recent.
I’ve seen: The wire, true detective (1st season), game of thrones, arcane, fallout - but that’s pretty much it.

Do you want comedy or realism? What moves you?
I have a big list :)
Breaking bad/better call saul
Solid list. Hmm...what to shill...
This is a bit lesser known, but The Affair was really good imo. Anyone I encounter who also watched it, oddly not many people even though it was on showtime, love it too
Altered carbon
breaking bad hands down
Patriot
One one of the best
Just discovered this a couple weeks ago. Fantastic show. Don’t know how I missed it.

Come at me for any really specific recommendations. Also enjoy https://cornyflicks.com - make a free API key and you got all them shows.
No Stargate Universe? I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. I wish it had an ending, and I don't regret watching it. Now Origins... that's a flaming pile of trash.
Yeah didnt mind universe but presumed the op wanted the "best" I didnt mind universe so much too but yeah... origins 😭 Amazon or some network could easily make a new SG but alas
Sopranos, Veep
If you want to stick with crime dramas, Sopranos is #1 by far
Twin Peaks if you like mystery, surrealism, + the supernatural
If you want a cringe comedy/black comedy and don't mind the Brits: Peep Show
peep show. seriously weird. seriously unique.
Breaking bad is undefeated
^ Agreed. I thought the character development and writing in Better Call Saul was better (and Breaking Bad is a high bar at that).
As for OP: LOL at just 1st season of true detective (me too)
Better call Saul is probably my favorite non comedy show ever
Nothing stops this train
Except by Better call Saul...
The Sopranos
It’s really hard for me to stay interested past season two or three of a show. Enjoyed the John Adam’s mini series a while ago. Watched Cheers start to finish years ago. That was a commitment, but the simplicity of the show was refreshing and, for having so many episodes, they didn’t repeat storylines too often.
Justified is underrated imo. The rivalry between characters played by Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins makes for a good watch.
I haven't seen anyone mention Mad Men, that's a go-to for me
Brooklyn 99
Community
Chernobyl
Because I haven't seen them mentioned yet.
Oh, and Jack Ryan!
The office
The Terror Season 1, a fictionalized account of the lost Franklin expedition to the Arctic, intriguing and watchable.
beast games.
Deadwood.
What genre are you into? Action. Drama? Mad men and the sopranos are great
Peep Show
White Collar is easily my favorite show.
Boardwalk Empire
Man, you’ve got to give it a go. It’s good
Start with season 2

Trailer Park Boys
Eastbound and Down
White Lotus. Pluribus.
Mr robot
Lost
Haunting of hill house (there’s a whole bunch of other seasons by the director)
Mad men
Peaky blinders
Spartacus
Rome
True detective season 1 again.
If you haven’t seen the Sopranos, you should. It’s better than the wire. The wire is number 2 on my list
**Dark** - well-rounded time travel drama
**Yellowstone** - visual, modern-day american western drama
**Breaking Bad** - character-heavy kingpin drama, visual
**Seinfeld** - NYC-based comedy, absurd characters
Honorable mentions / personal favorites:
Severance - cerebral, visual, light scifi, tight production
Community/Rick & Morty - smart comedy, well-structured stories
Supernatural - self-aware fantasy/comedy, good finale
Twin Peaks, Breaking Bad then Better Call Saul, Sopranos
Battlestar Galactica. It swings between dark and hopeful, strong and weak, courageous and cowardly.
Breaking Bad
Chernobyl
The Band of Brothers
Friends (if you need the best comedy)
Mr. Robot (includes realistic hacking)
Hustle (2004 - the British one. I love this one)

Shows not yet mentioned:

Breaking bad
Mr. Robot or The 100 👨🚀 🚀 🌜
THE SHIELD, DEXTER, DEADWOOD
Patriot, Peep Show, Veep, Succession, Deadwood, The Wire, The IT Crowd, The Detroiters, Chernobyl, Eastbound and Down, Vice Principals
Homeland was pretty good…
I’m not sure a show has ever truly drawn me into a character like Clare Danes. The writing is great…At the time we were watching it, it seemed to be telling stories that align with real life scenarios.
And the other is a Star Wars series called Andor. It’s a good vs. bad/espionage show that’s not Sky Walker or Vader or Jedis but just a great story that explores the deeper themes of Star Wars itself but explains most everything leading up to the original 1977 show…from the common folk perspective.
And I’ll add, you don’t need to be into Star Wars to enjoy it.
Naked and Afraid: Halloween Edition

do better at cooking instead - your greatest symphony awaits
Taboo (2017)
Ted Lasso is greatness
Welcome to Derry was pretty good👍

‘Dark’ is really good. It’s in German and has subtitles but worth it. Netflix
we did some zap tests on this note… we made six attempts to⚡zap this note, at user204912937717550@fountain.fm, over a period of 16 minutes. six of the zaps were successfully paid... please check for 6 satoshis received. however, we did find that only three of the payments produced zap receipts in time for our server to recognize them. this is a problem because the user who zapped you would not see an active ⚡icon after zapping. they might think the zap failed, and therefore might not zap you again.... also.... your average zap time was 13841ms (13.8 seconds). we consider this zap time slow... if possible, zaps should be confirmed in under two seconds. (if time is too slow, other nostr users might think your zaps are broken, might not zap you again.) if you wanted to fix this... you could try getting a free rizful lightning address -- https://rizful.com ... if u get it set up, pls reply here so we can do this ⚡zap test again.

Star Trek Original Series
The Twilight Zone Original Series
Portlandia
I Think You Should Leave
Dark (2017) - it's not easy to watch due to its complicated storyline, and keeping track on the family connections is no easy task, so a pen & paper may come handy.
-
Generally, I may lose interest as have no time to binge watch and rarely can keep up with the series. So unless it's a group activity, like 'let's watch together' I'm the same.
The Dropout (2022)
Silicon valley is the greatest show ever made.
Breaking bad is amazing and Better Call Saul which is its spinoff sequel is even better.
Peaky blinders
South park is great. I'd recommend picking a season a few years ago and going forward. Don't watch from the beginning. It's not a very stateful show.
Breaking Bad
Fargo
I recently watched pluribus and came up with a whole thread around it, recommend!!

The walking dead. First 5 seasons. Was the most watched show back then. It is about survival. The “trust me bro” believers are not making it and end up dead. Many life lessons in there.
I’m jealous that you still get to experience Breaking Bad for the first time
Andor (especially now)
Star Trek TNG
Cowboy bebop
Currently watching Lucifer the third time 😉
Sopranos and Mad Men
👀 I'm looking too 😅
Haven't found anything interesting since Futurama's first comeback 😆
Since everyone's already saying Breaking Bad I'll shill Better Call Saul and say it's *maybe* even better
Peaky Blinders
Black Sails
Ozark
Mayor of Kingstown
Breaking Bad
Titans: the rise of Wall Street

Oh and Generation Kill. That’s excellent
Stargate.
1. Stargate (the movie, 1994) - https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0111282/
2. Stargate-SG1 - https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0118480/ - 10 seasons of amazing television + several movies after the later seasons
3. Stargate: Atlantis - another 5 very good seasons in a new show starting with season 08 of SG-1 (parallel and loosely connected series) - https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0374455/
4. Stargate Universe - 2 more good seasons in a 3rd show - https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1286039/
5. Stargate Origins - https://m.imdb.com/title/tt7161862/ - cannot recommend, as rewrites the history of the other shows.
Pluribus & Andor are solid choices
Black Sails or The Expanse
The Wire
Hijack on Apple TV. ✈️
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Andor
